taffy2jeffmorgan Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 Since its introduction dynamic visual damage can be quite spectacular on times, but sometimes it can be a bit of a mixed bag! flying a Hurricane 11A armed with 2x40mm Vickers S guns, attacking a column tanks, then this Hs 129 shows up, I get on his tail and I must have hit him 4 or 5 times with those 40mm, just a few puffs of smoke, so again another 4 or 5 hits more smoke puffs and a fuel leak and then he flew on his merry way. I shall try the mission again and see what happens?
AEthelraedUnraed Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 I don't quite understand - is this about the fact that there didn't show any holes in his fuselage? Or that he kept flying after receiving multiple hits? The latter doesn't have anything to do with Dynamic Visual Damage - it's just that: visual.
Riderocket Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 Maybe you were only hitting him with the 303s
Hotaru_Ito Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 If you were firing AP rounds that's not too surprising, they don't do much unless you nail the pilot or an engine. You're just punching two-inch holes at random spots on the plane, there's no shrapnel, splash damage, etc. I tried it out in QMB and except for one lucky pilot kill it generally took me several volleys of 40mm AP to bring down a Duck. As @AEthelraedUnraed says, DVD is just a visual effect, it has no impact on the actual damage done, but it can be helpful for evaluating results (if you can pick out the "real" DVD bullet holes from the "fake" old-school damage decals, anyway). In this case, it's pretty easy to see the difference between the neat little holes AP rounds make and the bigger, rougher ones from HE rounds. If you really want to have some fun with DVD, try out the R4M rockets on some of the late-war German planes. Tricky to score hits with but are usually a one-hit kill when you do, and they leave a spectacular DVD impact. Very cool. 1
