A new member of the 1C Team it seems? From the Central United States no less.

Welcome sir!

I don't think you've been officially introduced to the community.

Maybe you can tell us a little bit about yourself, and how you'll be helping out the boys in Russia?

What?  Almost has a little touch of sarcasm..just me, Gambit?

Posted

No, I'm genuinely interested and think he should be welcomed officially.

I think it's a good thing, and a good sign for the team in general IMHO.

He seems to like PTO stuff...so has to be a good guy. ;)

I'll see if I can find some of my crappy artwork from when I was 7 years old and post it for you.

Well I just read my original post to see if somehow I was not being clear, or caused myself to be misread/misunderstood.

I suppose I can see the "are you being sarcastic" thing...sort of...but not really.

Russian team, a new fellow Yank to chat with us now and then...what's not to be curious about?

It’s early and I got covid so forgive my confusion

where has this come from? I mean where has the name and  the links to 1c  come from?

Check out his aircraft carrier RC models in the plastic modeler sub-forum :)

No time to go looking for a link right now. Feel better.

That was some random reference in the original post with zero clues. Now it makes a little more sense.

Wardog = Jason Williams. It's an anagram.

Well spotted, sir!

Although, could you maybe tag him, like this: @Wardog5711? Makes it easier for him to spot this topic (as well as for us to stalk the poor bugger).

(Also, Jason disappears and Wardog enters. Are we sure Jason didn't bump his head or something leading to a case of acute schizophrenia?)

OK, so now it's official.

And for the record, I am not a Jason and I do not play one on TV. But I have slept at a Holiday INN express before.?

I'm a prior service U.S. Marine, former telecom engineer, lifelong military and sci-fi model builder, history fan, and a war-gaming grandpa.

Prior to Covid I was an avid WWII re-enactment participant. American, German and Soviet.

So, that's the basics of who I am, and I'm looking forward to working with the forum community.

I did.  What does the “community manager” do exactly? PR?  Moderation?  Or just managing the website from a tech standpoint?

It's great to have new team members... and hello to Wardog5711.

However, lot's of questions are still being asked about Jason's absence... it was all a bit of a hoot a few days ago, but now ? C'mon...

I think one could explain Jason's absence as him trying to wear too many hats.

Hence the new CM,

It allows him to focus on his own roles.

I fall under the marketing teams chain of command, so I will be dealing with the IL-2 presence on social media sites and this forum.

The role is evolving.

Perhaps you could evolve enough to tell us where or what Jason Williams is up to?

My theory is, that Jason is an AI that has outgrown his role and has been quarantined to prevent further development.

Ah, pity poor soul... we vary from always hungry chicks, to obsessive madmen, to piranhas swarming here at times.

Glad to see that more ways to promote the project and market it are being explored. I really have long suspect that this is an area that could be improved.

Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing lots of managment and communities!

Now while we're here, I have an incredibly niche and obscure but vitally important FM/DM issue that I need to talk to you about and I will get incredibly and unreasonably  hostile when you tell me you guys don't have time to work on it _right now_.

Be warned! ;)

I think people are reading too much into this. There are multiple people involved in the project... if one of them disappears for a month it probably shouldn't be of concern - they may be busy, on holiday, have a minor illness in the family etc. We've seen many different people post dev updates over the years, give interviews etc. One of the Rise of Flight interviews in the old days in SimHQ was Jason flying to Moscow to interview his own team :)

I also think it is important to recognise that, while a few people might be critical in setting the direction of these products, or directing the priorities and strategies for doing things like encoding flight-models, these products are huge team efforts that go beyond any one shareholder, manager, or programmer.

I also suspect that a lot of the critical decisions were made early on (2013 or even 2007) and the influence of any one person on what the game looks like will be less since there has been over ten years of lessons learned and the likelihood of major choices in design taking place is unlikely with a mature product.

So I wouldn't worry that much. Even if there is a weird 'where's waldo' conspiracy contagion floating about.

Semper Fi Luftgangster! I was a 5711 from '83-'97. Back when it was still called NBC.

As for being the FNG/CM,   I've got the armor on and the bunker door secured. ?

Oh see now you've done it.

Now you have to join us on combat box for Friday night flights.

Thanks Avimimus.

As much as I'd like to fill everyone in on Jason, that is information that I do not have.  For those that are prior MIL, the term 'above my paygrade' will be clearly understood.

I cannot share what I do not know, so we will all have to wait for somebody higher up the food chain to pass down the word.

Welcome!!!

Beyond the scale models, do you have flight sim experience?  Any favorite plane?

'Higher up the food chain'? Does that mean they get better crayons, or more of them? ?
