Lovely! ?

In regards to the new prop animation, will the P-51D now have a four bladed propellor? It still looks like three blades to me as it is now.

Also, I want to add that I appreciate all your hard work and countless updates you provide us.

Any update on the FC2 full map - which I believe is the only 'major thing' still pending completion for any of the Il-2 family tree of products?

Posted (edited)

Awesome work here from the devs! Salute!

Two questions please;

1. Any word on the progress and likelihood of seeing the IAR-80/81 that is being built by partner Ivan find it's way into the lineup for the update?

2. With the widespread adoption of tactical codes, will the discrepency between the visual placement and size in the plane setup screen compared to the ingame placement and size be corrected?

Keep the great work going!

1. IAR is being actively developed, too early to be included in this update though.

2. This issue (what plane is it?) should be fixed before the update release.

FC2 map is slowly, but surely nears its completion.

Lovely! ?

No he did not. The FC weak  wings  isse is there since years now. Last Aircraft DM Improvements make it from bad to worse. It could be fixed in any  future updates or not.

The DVD concept is great in general , I hope It will be  more refined. Like skin level damge decals graphicaly identical as  DVD decals. Otherways it looks odd - same bullet and  material but diffrent decals. I think that droping skin damage  levels 1-2 and keep only level 3 would be much better graphicly and give pilots awarnes where damage were acctualy done.

For example .

Now, you shot the wing  with the pistol (one bullet) and 4 decals show up on the wing and not in place when actually bullet landed. With DVD enabled plane there will be 5 decals, one diffrent from others and in the right place.
Who need that 4 which are misleading and do not even on the same visual level ?

Will the new propeller effect show blades properly when slowing down time in a cinematic effect?

Excellent news! The show must go on ?

Amazing, those updates sound absolutely fab, thanks so much for the hard work on these. Be interesting to see what the AI changes are, wasn’t expecting that!

Very exciting.

I'm looking forward to DVD on more aircraft! It should be a significant improvement and I didn't expect it so soon.

It is also nice to see that the BoN map is still being worked on - Particularly in England I noticed a lot of features that were from present day maps but were incorrect for the era (e.g. wrong harbours, entire rail lines and stations missing). I was actually thinking that a 1942-1944 Channel Map half-module (e.g. only five aircraft) might be desirable - as it'd help fund further map improvements (and maybe even hedges). But if some of those map improvements are coming anyway, it might not be as valuable.

I'm also really curious about the AI - as it is probably the one area that could be improved them most in this (and every other) flight sim.

Nice, especially the DVD + tactical codes (it's a very similar tech after all) got me quite excited! Do the tactical codes also work in career mode already?

But what about the...?

Nah, got nothing.  Thanks for the hard work!

"DVD" and markings for all planes is HUGE just by itself! And we get other improvements as well!? Badass! You guys ROCK!

Is there anywhere to see this new damage modeling? That's so cool and I feel like I've been waiting 10 years for it to finally make its way into great battles. I am under the impression its on a select few planes as of right now?

IIRC anything released from the 51D onwards should have had DVD included from the start. However I’ve not noticed (maybe I’m unable to differentiate it from the generic damage) the DVD on aircraft such as the DH4 or Sopwith Triplane.

Sorry, don't see it.

Dozens of other fixes and improvements...  hmm..  At any rate, all sounds good.

I hope in 5.002 we can get some improved voice comms with your wingman saying "Bearskin 2, bandit at your 4 o'clock or if flying a plane with a co-pilot or observer, "Skipper, bandit 8 o'clock".

The Mosquito is currently the best showcase for the DVD system, as you can see both wood and metal effects.

Here's an example I just made using German 30mm HE:

Spoiler

Conventional damage decals are in the upper right corner.

DVD decals indicating a large caliber HE strike on a wood surface: the two holes in the wing beside the "Keep Off" area.

DVD decals indicating the same as above, but on a metal surface: the two holes on top of the "Keep Off" area.

Great example you've got of the different wood and metal damage effects. That said, there's got to be something critically wrong if that wing took 4x 30HE in that corner without being blown to smithereens. I know we've all seen it before but the result of 1x 30HE... Completely eviscerated:

It should be noted that the pilot and co-pilot were dead, and the wing tank was on fire.

That said, without the (often excessive) shrapnel radius, the 30mm's efficacy would plummet.

What we've got now is a round that does inconsistent/poor structural damage, and great shrapnel damage. Which is basically the opposite of what the pictures you posted would indicate.

I expect the devs are aware of this, and for whatever reason, perhaps making the structure of the average plane more breakable would be problematic. It might create more issues than it solves.
