Hmm so my EVGA Titanium 1000w PSU should be ok for the 4090 if I reading that correctly? Still on post surgery drugs here...

Plus these do not appear to be Ti's ( as subject title states )unless I am missing something?

@dburneThey are not TI's. Industry folks are expecting nVidia to hold back on the 4090 TI until they've seen what AMD actually has.

The TI would probably have ~18k cuda cores, at 2.4Ghz, and would probably be the 600W card. There are rumors the chip was designed to support GDDR7 as well, so waiting until that's ready to go live will only benefit the final card.

That said, I'm hearing actual BOM costs for the 4090 450W and 600W versions are way higher than a $1600 MSRP.

Reckon a rig with a 1000w Titanium power supply would be ok with 4090?

Probably fine, but worth waiting for reviews. I don't think there will be a big GPU shortage this cycle, especially once the AMD cards launch in November.

From what I'm hearing, they're doing the 450W 4090 now because the 600W ones were having too many problems at the board and system level. But I would also expect AIBs to try and market them as OC Extreme versions, too.

I would expect 1200 WATT PSU. An MSI Suprim X 4090 will be at 550 W I assume. So 1000W could be not enough...
They also said 660 Watt could be configured on 4090. Not sure what Boardpartners will do. So I think we have to upgrade PSU...

EVGA has also a 1200w Titanium that uses the same size cables as my 1k watt so that would certainly be easier to swap out.

More insanity. Nvidia deserves a firm boycott, as far as I'm concerned.

Sadly, people will still buy it.

I think I have about decided to just hang on to my EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra for a while this go around.

Same here. I plan on holding onto my EVGA 3080 for a while also. I don't really see a need to upgrade to a GPU that will produce more heat on my air-cooled system. Undervolting has allowed me to knock off about 100 watts and keeps the GPU temp around 60C without any loss of performance driving a 3440x1440 monitor with the game settings at max. My FPS averages 117 and is buttery smooth. If it ain't broke don't fix it is my current m.o. plus the fact that I just dropped a chunk of change on a new stick and base.

I'll stick to my 3090 for a while as well.

In Germany the 4090 starts at approximately 2000$ - without considering PPP, which is much lower nowadays. If you live in Washington, you could consider a price of 3000$ to get a feeling to how much this is over here in Europe.

Given that DLSS 3 is responsible for most of the performance boost, and given that it needs special implementation, and given that neither IL-2 nor DCS have implemented DLSS 2 yet nor declared that they would - I will wait for people making proper performance tests in IL-2.

Let's say you were in the US, they actually sell close to MSRP, and you were running a 2080ti, would you invest in a 4090 this year or go with discounted 3090?  Asking for a friend...

EVGA has been selling their 1600W Platinum P+ for $199 on Amazon and Newegg.

My only hope is this will drive down the prices on 3080s and I can snag one of those. I think it will be a nice upgrade for VR from my 2060.

This is getting out of hand. I used to "keep up" with hardware but I just stopped upgrading so frequently and life goes on and the sims still work just fine.

I'll wait till i really need it, or if a significantly better VR headset comes out and my GPU cannot handle it anymore.

AMD effectively responded by saying they'll reveal RDNA3 (7000 series) at the start of Nov. Intel is still at the teething stages, and won't be competitive in the higher end for years.

Wait a few months, I'd expect the prices of the 4000-series to drop due to lack of demand. At least the sentiment seems clear on that, but I haven't run a crawl+analysis on it, so this is based on a majority of anecdotes. Then after the initial drop, go with 4000-series. They seem to have larger jumps in rasterization compared to the jump from 2000 to 3000. Ultimately, if you focus on IL-2 and VR, that is what is important right now.

Eventually, for newer engines and other titles supporting DLSS, the 4000 series will also become very interesting. It's simply more future proof than the 3000 series. But not at this current price. And if you only play IL-2, there's probably not as much performance boost as these boosts are tied to new AI tech as well - which neither IL-2 nor DCS include.

In best manner, similar to the Aero release (and the new headsets around the corner, challenging it for a fraction of a price), we howl again:

My addiction started in 1996 with a drugmaker 3Dfx that developed and put on the market a drug based on the Vodoo molecule that was a potent hallucinatory drug that acted on the retina and visual nerve. Before that in early days of these drug developments, many molecules were available, but none was really effective. That Vodoo1 was like magic, and I became addict. The problem is that the effect was not long lasting. I took on regularly more potent version of the molecule like Vodoo2, Vodoo3, 4, 5. I even used multiple shots in parallel to boost the effect. Then came in 2000 a new drugmaker Nvidia that improved the Vodoo, and proposed a much more potent drug based on a revised GeForce molecule, with long lasting effects. Long lasting indeed as I am still on GeForce 3090 (not Ti which is a very weak hallucinatory boost) 22 years later. In between there was a tweak in the molecule that became GeForce RTX a few years ago but which had no additional effect on me, probably a matter of genetic biocompatibility.

Now here comes a new chemistry, the 4N quantum effect that allows multiple Geforce RTX molecules to become entangled and that has boosted and more than doubled in one shot the hallucinatory potency of it. The first version of the 4N variant is the 4090. But over the years one problem started to creep in and became an issue. To have those drugs to deploy their hallucinatory effect, you needed to excite the molecule with an electric current. At the beginning this was not an issue as the electrical power was so low that your brain could not feel it. Now with the 4N quantum improvement you need kilowatts, and the brain starts overheating too much, so very sophisticated cooling equipment must be used. As an old addict it is too late for me to change, you understand well that I just must have it whatever the cost.

So, I invested in a very large solar panel system to give me the required electrical power as a renewable and no emission carbon free solution. And because in general the hallucinatory experiences are more frequently happening in the evening or at night when there is no sun, I invested into a double large battery system. Then a specially equipped bathtub with a chiller to produce cold water, and to immerse myself and cool my brain during the hallucinatory sessions.

Conclusion I am ready for the upcoming 4090. ?
