Floppy_Sock Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Thanks for your modeling work and our pleasant interactions over the pilot physiology model. Best wishes and good luck! 1
Noisemaker Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Lament not, fellow pilots. AnPetrovich will remain with us for eternity. One need but look behind, whilst flying the U-2 in order to gaze upon his smiling face. Though the drive of his spirit in this team will now fade, his spirit itself, remains in code. Amen. 2
FlyingNutcase Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Super of you to make the post and thank you for seeing it through to the BoN release. All the best with your next adventures! 1

AnPetrovich Posted September 15, 2022 Author Posted September 15, 2022 Thanks to everyone for all your warm words of support! I was very pleased to read that you appreciate my contribution and participation in the creation of simulators. It was especially nice to see that some of you still remember the first AFM and Su-25. Although, in fairness, I should note that my career in the field of flight simulators development began even earlier: with work on the L-39 Albatros’ FM, in the CaptainSim add-on for MSFS '98. So history, in a sense, is cyclical. I see that some of you have already figured it out, and it was not a big secret anyway, that yes, I moved to Asobo, and I will work on MSFS. Over the years, the subject of my main interest has always been and remains flight itself, its swiftness or, conversely, quiet lightness, its grace, freedom of movement in three-dimensional space, perfection of aviation technology and bewitching beauty of the surrounding world - whether it is dizzying and stunning with its energy aerobatics in a fighter, or the art of soaring in a hang glider among mountains and clouds, alone with nature. Perhaps for someone on this forum my words will seem inappropriate, but I have always perceived the combat use of an aircraft as a weapon carrier as something imposed, unnecessary, forced and wrong. Therefore, in simulators, I perceived air combat more like a kind of sporting event: who "overflies" whom. Taking war, destruction, and death out of the equation. Recently, this whole gamma of feelings has acquired new colors, and perception has become sharper. Therefore, to a certain extent, I am glad that I am returning, one might say, to the origins of my interest and love for aviation, not burdened with weapons and military topics. Well, time will tell what will come out of it. Thanks again everyone! I hope to see you again! 36 7 1 5

Being well-versed in image processing including convolutional neural nets, MSFS has always fascinated me with their revolutionary use of CNN-based tech to create the ground objects. I'm glad they've taken the opportunity to employ an experienced flight model engineer, and I fully believe this can only bring positive results to their game and make their aircraft behave even more realistically. Again wishing you all the best in southern France! Edited September 15, 2022 by AEthelraedUnraed 1

Thanks for all your work and it will be interesting to see what you come up with for MSFS. Although I don’t fly it as often as IL2 , the new MS FS is absolutely great to simulate pure flying fun and has huge potential. I’m looking forward to the gliders for instance so I can go back to my youth ? 1
rolikiraly Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Nowadays I rarely play flight sims or post on this forum. But I have to make an exception here. I appreciate all your work, and for sure we can agree that you created something great, which can only come from the combination of knowledge and passion. (I still remember the jaw-drop I experienced seeing and playing RoF for the first time..) Wishing all the best for the future! 1

Pollux Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Thank you for your work on ROF and IL-2. I had a great time on your flight model. ? I wish you a good continuation at Asobo Studio and especially welcome to France. ? 1

mazex Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 (edited) Well - I appreciate your reasoning that the combat use of aircraft is really a secondary use. But if CFS4 would emerge as an expensive DLC to MSFS my wallet would be wide open Having said that - I feel that gliders really are the most elegant use of aircraft. A good pilot can fly a 1000 km triangle while a crappy pilot lands after 10 minutes. No engine - just taming the forces of mother nature and your own flying skills (accept for the takeoff). And Otto Lilienthal flew long before the Wright Brothers So please help them get that done ASAP And southern France is just lovely! Go check out Dune du Pilat that is close to Bordeaux for some nice sand hills that Otto would have loved as a ramp for his first gliders... Edited September 15, 2022 by mazex 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Thank you for everything! I have thousands of hours between the Su-25, Rise of Flight and Il-2 thanks to you, and I have made lifelong friendships out of it. Good luck under the French skies, and I cannot wait to see what your next step brings to flight simulators as a whole! 1 1

Well, time will tell what will come out of it. Thanks again everyone! I hope to see you again! MSFS could definitely do with some flight model improvements. I'd personally really love a 1930s high performance glider sim (I've built a bunch of German and Russian interwar gliders in X-plane... and there were a lot of interesting designs in that era), as well as more pre-WWI civilian flight simulators. I haven't tried X-Plane 12, but the flight models for something like a Demoiselle were a bit finnicky. I did get the Bleriot XXIV working well though (the passenger compartment was made by carriage company apparently - complete with the pilot sitting out front). Anyway, there are definitely a lot of strange vistas within the civilian flight genre which haven't been properly explored. I just wish civil sims had the quality and richness of light that you guys have a history of producing. Best of luck! 1

Guest deleted@50488 Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) I was totally unaware of your participation in already FS98 addons ! Wow, that's quite some time ago ? It's great for MFS and it's users to have someone like you joining the ASOBO team. They seem really passionate and dedicated to their projects, although they also lack a lot of consistency in terms of flight dynamics, having created an interesting variant to the original table-based FM but one that needs a lot of attention from someone who has the necessary knowledge / experience which sims like Rise of Flight and IL2 Great Battles are the best examplo of ! I am mostly an X-Plane 12 user now. Love MFS for it's astounding scenery and graphics, but X-Plane has always showed me other strenghts that, if explored by tallented developers can result in very accurate and enjoyable models. Unfortunately I never found gliders properly modeled in all but Flight Unlimited, Condorsoaring and Silentwings ? SFS 2 and 3 were also good soaring sims but just from a procedural / decision-making pov. The upcoming Soaring tittles for MFS might tempt me to try it again... One never knows... I will wait for your contribution being shown and I am sure it'll make a whole LOT of a difference in MFS ! I am also one of those who only started using DCS World, and later IL-2 because of the flight dynamics and feel of flight it provides, like no other flight simulator I have tried after Flight Unlimited. I do not like War, and even less War games. Air combat has always been the least of my interests in simulation, and if I sometimes start IL-2 it's just for the pleasure of feeling the various aircraft models behaving the closest to real I could find in a desktop flight simulator. All of the Best for you Petrovich in this new Project !!!! Edited September 17, 2022 by jcomm-il2
FTC_Knipser Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) Without you, this Flightsim would never have been possible. I've had so much fun over the last years playing IL2, thousands of hours and i'm still enjoying it. There's just no other game like it out there. So thank you very much Andrey for everything and i wish you all the best for you future! Take care! Edited September 17, 2022 by FS_Knipser 1 1

I never got quite as much pleasure from them in later sims. I do make use of gliders in X-Plane (it is really important to make sure the developer used correct airfoils though) - its main edge is the good flight model combined with the fact that I can quickly build experimental gliders that other sims wouldn't have (Weltensegler, Seeadler, Borchn Ba-1 etc.) Anyway, I find it interesting that Flight Unlimited was also somehow magic for someone else! It makes me want to try the other two specialist ones you recommend there. Edited September 18, 2022 by Avimimus

=FI=Blue2 Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 (edited) Late here, but don't want to let it go unsaid, Andrey. Thank you SO much for all your contributions to Great Battles, and in your previous sims. Your obvious deep love for aviation has been a joy to witness, and a tremendous benefit for us all. I'm glad to hear you leave a highly capable team behind as you step away, but there's no doubt you will still be sorely missed by the 1C team, and by all the rest of us who've admired & enjoyed your work here so much. You've left some very big shoes to fill! I join everyone else in wishing you all the very best both personally and professionally as you move to France and begin this new, exciting life phase. We hope to hear from you & see you in the virtual skies! Blue skies & tailwinds always to you, sir! Edited September 21, 2022 by =FI=Blue2 2 1 3
