IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad Pre-Order Program

Will be pre-purchasing the Premium Edition as soon as I get home!

Posted (edited)

For me to be interested in Pre-ordering this I'd like to see a few thing shown/talked about first:-

1) Weather - Currently we've all seen 'puffy' clouds in Blue skies. I want to see those huge weather fronts, overcast skies, rain, thunder....lots of weather images.

2) A detailed description of what the FMB and/or QMB will feature and if it will be user friendly

3) Cost of aircraft!

4) Ground draw distance. This was a big problem for Bomber pilots in other sims where object weren't displayed until they reached the 'draw bubble'

5) How the draw bubble is addressed in BoS - do the object pop or fade in?

6) More detail on the unlock system

I'm interested in this, don't get me wrong....but I would rather wait and get a lot of features than purchase before-hand and then cross my fingers I'll get features I'm interested in :(

Cheers, MP

(Looks nice in the screen shots though)

But be careful!

Yer, that as well. :)

my comment about exhale steam was purely tongue in cheek...that said, I now have to figure out how I'm going to explain a new PC - just built this one last summer...

Hi Heywoooooood,

are you already in SLI or Xfire ? Since BOS will support both, it could be a "reasonable" upgrade to your system if your not.

Without having to scratch everything....very powerful solution.....

Salute !

There probably was not a lot of rain or thunder during the winter part of the battle of Stalingrad.

ROF has rain, snow and overcast, im sure BOS will too.

I'm with Mysticpuma regarding the weather. Inclement weather, overcasts, snowstorms will be very important to have for this particular theatre of war. We already have weather like that in RoF so I expect at least that for BoS.

From previous poster Mastiff

Because this prealpha there wasnt much particle effects but thats coming. The lighting and shadow very good, you guys the lod is amazing if your at 10,000 feet you can make out the groundvehicles.

If you are interested in things like draw distance and weather, just download Rise of Flight, it's free!  Even if you have no interest in WWI you will get a good feel for how this engine does things.  BoS will be an upgrade from this but the basics will probably be the same.

Ps  for your first flight, take the Albatros.  It is much more forgiving!

Just pre-ordered premium. Autumn '13 is soon!

Shouldn't I be receiving some sort of confirmation after pre-ordering?

Yes you should.  Checked my email as soon as I ordered, after printing out my payment receipt confirmation, and I had 2 emails confirming my order from 777 Studios.

Posted (edited)

same here - confirmed immediately - but things could be heating up...

@ Kalimba - I am already SLI (nvidia spoken here) and I am sure I will wait to see how this rig runs it - but - when something like this comes along I think I might want to go out on the bleeding edge of tech and get all I can out of it

Pity, so I spent 90$ and instead of getting a game, I get to deal with customer support. Well, maybe I give it 24 hours, they are probably overwhelmed with the unexpected numbers of pre-orders. :)

It took 20 minutes to get my confirmation.  So id maybe wait a little bit, then call customer support.  But trust me if you can prove purchase with a confirmation on a credit card (or what ever form of purchase) you will get your stuff post haste!  I had a problem once in RoF and they took care of me.

Yes its going to take ALOT of Teamwork on the Ruskie side to overcome those Fockewolfs.  But this may fall into the mission designers to fix, IE limited number as it is in RoF.

Preordered the premium edition to show support for the genre, despite some design decisions I'm not happy with.

I'm going to wait for feedback but after the 1C CoD debacle I'm a little cautious when I read:

We invite you to become a participant in the development of BOS by placing a Pre-Order. By doing this, you will be the first to get access to the product and help us to make it even better. The combat flight-sim genre now needs your attention; modest budgets do not allow the realizationof everything virtual pilots dream about at once. But together we can truly revolutionize the genre and bring back a true legend to the sky!

$50 is fine for a developed game and I would happily pay $90 for a really good WWII combat sim (I would have for CoD if it had delivered) but $90 for the privilege of becoming a beta tester with two extra aircraft ( $20 each?) seems a bit steep even though you'd get the developed game at the end. A half price offer to become a beta tester would have been much more attractive (presumably $50 and $90 will be the final release prices?). This was scheduled for release in 2014 and probably still is. They are honest enough to talk about the limitations of budgets so I hope they will succeed but I would have hoped they would have had the financial backup to deliver it without the need to call for early funding. I would guess they need to sell a lot of pre-orders to make a significant contribution to their development budget.

It all sounds horribly familiar and "Once bitten......"

Bottom line is I don't need to pay out for this yet, I can buy it later at the same price and I will know what I am getting when I do.

Took another gander at the vid and it looks like is was done by the same group responsible for the History Channel's Dogfights series.

$90.  Well if that's the price of a ticket to this ball game I'd better get saving.  Nice looking vid, if the game looks anything like that it'll be epic.

Posted

No, thank you.

I will wait to see how it will all look on the end. And will it even be released. Another cold shower for me is this too arkadish and too childish system of play. But, thats just me, based on my previous experience with "games" (I love simulations, not "games"), but maybe everything will come out OK. :)

Cheers :)

Re: The pre-orders page is up.

89.99/8=11.25 approximately per aircraft.

So pretty worth it to me. Unlock-able content is basically

You need to learn first before you can fly on line. They don't want a novice to go on the

Multiplayer and start chatting how do i do this how do i do that. Its for our own good.

Interesting, what tells you that? - Can you post some more info on that group? - Would it mean the vid is only partially done in-house at 1C?

really? So you think Rise of Flight is arcadish? The CGI is just that if you don't know marketing trailers its called grabbing your attention. The CGI trailer is not in-game footage hollywood edited. The in game is very close to CGI if you know Rise of Flight well you know the effects are really good. IL2 BoS is even better the night effects are amazing, full ground battles on both and movement while in the air was great no FPS hit I believe with any system of current builds giving the last 2 years; if you can play ROF then you can play this.

Preordered, premium.

I realize the trailer is CGI (enhanced), but those clouds and the smoke... one can dream... ;-)

Can't ofcourse speak for smink1701 but it reminded me a bit of the Dogfight animations as well.

Especially the slowing down of the movie when the Bf109 passes the Il-2 and the reargunner looking at the German pilot. That may not ofcourse unigue for the DF animation team but I got a flashback

Hey, a lot of great vids use the "slowing-down trick"...  ;-)

So, the way the announcement was worded makes it seem like unless you pre-order, you cannot ever unlock the La-5 and Fw 190

True?

I find the 89.99 price tag to be disgustingly excessive for a game with nothing published.  CLOD was a dismal, dismal failure so I'm very skeptical about pre-ordering.

I believe you will be able to later after release by way of purchasing.  Similar to RoF business model, They seem to be going with a hybrid RoF/conventional business model.

I kinda break it down like this,   Early beta access = 10$  LA-5 = 10$  FW-190 = 10$    So it makes it a bit easier to justify.   For me anyway :)

I am pretty confident that any system with something like a 650 and up in

SLI will have enough power to run many 2014 games at high FPS... still beats top brand new single card.

also, in many benchmarks, seems like 2012 intel's CPUs ( 3570 and 3770 ) are no bottleneck (yet !) for 2013's SLI/Xfire setups....

so let's hope our systems will hold their grounds for BOS !

Salute !

I'm seeing some folks hesitant to purchase because of their CLOD experience. We totally understand that, but please do not base any purchase decision upon what happened with that launch. Please go play ROF and look at what WE have done there. 4 years of development by 777 with dozens of planes, new scenery, thousands of skins, seasonal textures, pilot animations, complex FM, complex damage, several modes of gameplay etc. etc. with no major delays. That is what we do!!!

And if you don't want to buy the premium edition feel free to buy the standard edition and you still get some early access. It's a fair deal. Plus we offer this per-order now so if the response is strong enough we can start working on other planes and new theaters! Please keep that in mind.

I'll be back when Loft and I are done driving all over the damn world. :-)

I'm kind of scared about how much more I would have paid than I did the second I saw that premium gets early access..
