IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad Pre-Order Program

Since there seems to be some people here using G940 I have a question for you: Is it any good? I need to get new hotas set and that is one strong competitor, others being Thrustmaster Warthog and CH fighter stick+throttle. Sorry about off topic post, btw.

I like the stick, very good FFB. Definitelly the best part of the hotas.

Pedals are OK for me but bit narrow..

Biggest dissappointment is the throttle.

After few months of usage, two rotaries stop function correctly, due to poor wiring. I don't use them anymore. Also the throttle is not as smooth as it should be IMHO.

So I've bought also Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant for radiator, mixture and prop pitch mappings.

Thanks for the reply, Rinzai. Good FFB sounds tempting and actually is the main reason why I am considering G940. Decisions, decisions...

The G940 is the ClOD of HOTAS systems, it's a super piece of kit that could be the answer to a simmers prayers but is dogged by problems and has been abandoned by it's creators, I like mine very much

Thats the only reason I took mine apart and made a legit center stick out of it.  Sadly the FFB motors loose strength the farther out the control arm is.

That said, what is the alternative for the future? When my X52Pro finally gives up, I want to buy a stick with FFB, but cannot see a good one with high quality and FFB.

I really think this is another side effect of our 'niche' hobby, HOTAS/flight control systems just don't command huge sales so nobody seems to be dedicating any time to developing the hardware, duct tape and soldering irons are our solution.

Got the premium also. Although I was sold on the gameplay videos and other info coming from the devs. Definitely not on that cinematic and over the top trailer.

Great setup, I wished I had the skills and knowledge to mod my Combatstick to something similar but I dont.

Great setup, I wished I had the skills and knowledge to mod my Combatstick to something similar but I dont.

I just started pling things apart and then figured out how to put them back together again with different parts to suit what I needed. I think the tricky part is making decision to take apart something that works fine. To make it work better. That has been my biggest obstacle in the past.

I have the G940, but it wasn't as precise as my  MSFF2.  The G940 has a software/bug  that reverses play at the center of the stick which made accurate shooting a little harder than the MSFF2.  I also preferred the Cougar throttle to the G940 throttle, but as a whole the G940 isn't a bad hotas system.

That's a new one to me, I thought reversal was a symptom of pot's, the G940 has hall sensors for the pitch/roll axes which are very precise and stable, the reversal bugs tended to be suffered on the throttle and rudder units which have pot's and that awful stiff wire that can break from fatigue, I think the problem you refer to with the stick is not actually reversal but rather the fact that hall sensors are so sensitive they react to the slightest movement and the physical slack zone at centre (where there is natural mechanical play and FF motors don't bite) makes the stick a little twitchy.

I can't remember what I paid for FB but I think it worked out to something less than 3 cents an hour, figured very conservatively.

So what the heck, I'm in for Premium.

man thats a new way to look at it...I bought every expansion and upgraded my PC 3-4 times for old IL2 and it probably works out to around that for me as well...

Nonsense ... there is no need to sacrifice quality in this at all and I do not think the team has.. I also agree with Furbs on this one.. I bet the Russians are ordering like crazy.. I know a lot of folks who got burned either by CoD or WoP .. and are waiting to see what comes down the pike but believe me.. the devs know full well that they cannot afford to half step in this venture.. make no mistake about it.. I will be absolutely shocked if this falls flat and will most likely never pre order any sim again ... but somehow I think I will be pre ordering the next theater as well..

Oh my, I was misunderstood here. This was firmly tongue in cheek regarding the VVS and the time period. It has NOTHING to do with the game, devs, or any group of players. Sorry for the unintended hoopla.

Yeah I got that .. after I thought I got it.. no worries ... :salute: You meant historically .. If the planes are modeled historically the red side will need numbers...

" historically " may take on a whole new context, with the use of the newly released/found  Soviet archival documents relating to aircraft performance. It will be interesting to note if these documents include performance relating to lend lease aircraft vs. the home grown variety.

I would rather have historic accuracy than balance .. even it it meant I got waxed if the numbers (of aircraft in a server) were not right..

LL... P-39 yum!! P-40 YUM!! Hurri.. yum ... all in all BoS YUM!!! I think it is going to be a tasty meal..

Just speculating from my side but I think if BoS fails for whatever reason it will be the end of WWII combat flight simming. At least for many years.

I may sound like a drama queen but IL2:1946 is outdated, WoP and WT are arcadish, CLOD is history and except BoS I haven't heard any rumours on the www about another WWII flight sim in the making.

DCS has some news on WW2 sim, no details under Sept 1st from what I understand.

I don't really see BoS failing at this point.  I think BoS will finally move people off of IL2:1946 which is feeling quite dated at this point.

I would rather have historic accuracy than balance .. even it it meant I got waxed if the numbers (of aircraft in a server) were not right..

It will be refreshing to see some of the old breed given new life in BOS. I hope they get to the P-39 and P-40 soon enough.

I don't know what it is about the P-39 I've always liked other than its unique design. Maybe it was just banging around with its big 37mm cannon, but it was a blast flying it in IL-2. Definately one I'd buy down the road.
