6 planes, and 2 more to pay for ? Sorry, you'll have to put out a bigger effort.

What happened to the IL2 numbers we are acquainted for...?

FuriousMeow

The modelling is far more complex and they take a much longer time to develop.

Aces Over Europe took around 3 months to create with all of it's planes. It takes longer than 3 months to develop a single plane in RoF.

+1, even less excuse now we are being told it takes 1 week to model a plane.

Understood. Sarcasm is a little tricky over the intrawebs. My mistake.

It wasn't only the catastrofic release day, it was also a story like the fps aliens colonial marines because like CLOD what was shown and what was deliverd were two completely different things.

Then we have other broken promises from 1c like for example if BOS sells well than CLOD would be further patched and BOS will install over CLOD.

And along the way the premier devv of the good old il-2, Oleg, bailed out of 1c.

If trust is broken it can be a pain to heal and maybe people are wary of bumping there head twice on the same stone.

I understand whay you say, this is the market we know....but....1C or not, this is a different team, with different leaders and a very different and solid managment. Don't forget about the """demo""", Rise of Flight wich will be improved with BoB in the engine, in the code and for sure also in the netcode.

We can complain about the limitations we have now in RoF (land operations for ex.), but its quality is simple stunning. Everytime i fly an SE5a i can only repeat to myself how great Rise of Flight is when you have the cloche in your hand. Now i can't wait for the 109 and the FW, and in the pre-alpha video i see somenthing special coming.

A question that just popped up - why were we shown many videos of real life MiG-3 and I-16 in development updates if the planes are not in the initial release? I was definitely counting on seeing them - will they be added later?

Posted

I believe it is because those are the planes that are actually in existence in this day and age. I don't think there is even one flyable LaGG-3. The only flying Sturmovik only took to the air last year, an old wreck that was heavily restored/rebuilt.

I could be wrong in this, but many of the added plane models in the IL2 series came from sub-contracted artists. Folks, Gibbage for example, made the plane with programs like 3DS and transfered their work to Maddox Games, who inturn added flight models and incorporated them into the game. There used to be a forum with modelers who created various planes. I don't recall the site now because it's been years since I last even thought of looking for it. I believe that's one reason we had the volume of planes we had in the IL2 series.

I don't think 777/1C is using sub-contracted artists, but I can't be sure without official confirmation from the developer.

All projects such as this use outside contractors to make models and other content. Just the nature of the business. We prefer to do it inside, but sometimes it can be done outside just as well or better depending on the artist. The trick is finding someone professional.

All the old IL-2 titles used outside help in one way or another.

Possibly so. Would still be good to see them. Might be better I posted my 2nd question in the question to devs topic...

Maybe 6 planes of today equals 60 planes of what you reference to (or at least 31 one the old ones)?

THERE IS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN BOS AND CLIFFS OF DOVER  AS FAR AS THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM GOES.

NONE.

How many times does that point have to be made..

So none of the guys that made CLOD are working on BOS?  They all got fired, and 1C hired a whole new crop of developers?

Pull the wool from your eyes please.

Doggles - somewhere on this forum, I forget where, you can read that a couple of guys from the 1c team moved over to 777. You can also read on a very recent thread - possibly this one, Jason saying that development is handled by 777, not 1c.

So what you're saying is that there is a connection.

If you want to create interest, why not post or ask to post full ingame footage of BOS; preferably sp and mp fights with large number of planes, cockpit views, terrains,...?

Because the game is half-ready. its gonna take some more time to finish and polish it. You, personally should not buy it right now i think. You dont trust the team wich already has some reputation in sim-making and never failed to give us what we paid for.

The way guys make planes for BoS is way more complex while planes in original IL2 (and their FM, DM etc) were more arkadish. Lets say 1 plane for BoS equals 6-8 planes from Il2 by ammount of work needed.

I will pull that from yours ))) The whole 777 team moved to 1C and took the best guys from 1C (minority) who really proved themselves. Nobody wants the repetition of CLOD saga and they are on the right path. I was there in the office, i flew that Lagg, i saw the guys working hard and all that gave me hard on. If you can live without trust based on good ground then...just wait. Dont give them your money. I trust noone but my own eyes and hands.

I've spent 3 great years flying ROF. Now it's time for some little war change.

Whole 777 never let me down so why should I not support them and whole niche simming market?

That's why I've just preordered premium version and I start counting days and nights until autumn :)

How about this... the rest of us chip in to "gift" BoS for the 3-4 guys who are so adament in this thread that they aren't being told the whole story. Maybe that would calm 'em down a bit. Doubt it will but it sure would help reduce the malarky.

I think that's what they want, a free handout..

What there really saying is, if I can get War of Thunder for free and grind my rank.

Maybe I can talk 777 into releasing BoS for free... and then grind for rank over there. if we can talk Jason and 1c to changing to this WOT business model?

just being Sarcastic by the way.

Beside around Christmas time. I usually buy some games for people from the forums here, if they so happen to be on the Team Speak.

None of the guys that made the decisons that resulted in the release of CoD in the state it was in are on this team in the same capacity. That is my understanding..

PAID FOR! I CAN HARDLY WAIT! :salute:  :salute:

Well I have just done something I have never done before, in my 20 plus years of pc simulators - placed a pre-order for a title yet to be released.

I had to this one though, my true love is WWII combat simming, and everything I have seen to date leads me to believe this will be a must have title for me.

And, I have ordered the Premium Edition as well - it is not that important to me to have this "early access" to the sim, although I guess that will be cool. I did it more to support 777/1C in this endeavor,  to help keep combat flight sims alive for us enthusiasts. And to date my favorite title was IL2, and so far looks like this one will be a worthy successor. I have been running ROF when I can off and on, since Dec, and am very impressed with it's depth. Plus it runs really well on my system.

I also want to especially thank  Hooves, Mastiff, LukeFF, Aborted Man, Jason - and others, who have taken their time to share much of their experiences over the last few days with us for our benefit. It certainly helped " seal the deal" with me.

Looking forward to autumn!

Sorry Sir but I think you mean BoM (Battle of Moscow) developed by the same CLoD Team and not BoS by 777.

Sorry I didn´t finish to read all replies.

things seem a little calmer in here

Does anyone still have their original IL2 disc?

I cant remember how many flyable planes there were at launch...and please if you have it - only the different planes - don't count all the skins - ufff that Mig-3 with those horrible 'Taxi' skins  - and whatever that purple monstrosity was called...

and then Forgotten Battles - how many planes were included there?

finally Pacific Fighters?

And then '46 was a compilation but they added some planes to that release too - no? (who can forget the flying food processor, or the FW Ta whatever it was that was hated for being a fantasy jet)

I wish now I had kept all that stuff - don't know why I didn't

point being that a lot of people are remembering original IL2 as having a ton of flyable planes as if they were there from the very beginning - but they were not, so if we could stop focusing on the 6 or 8

planes that BoS will have at initial launch, that would be great - because thats par for the course

Funny thing about Il-2's original release. Just the Il-2 was intended. Then they added in a few other planes, but because it was designed for just the Il-2 the high altitude flight modelling was incomplete. All planes pulled to the left, didn't matter what it was. Later on they added flyable jets, and they had a torque pull. It wasn't until the "advanced" FM of 4.0 that they finally revamped that. Led to some interesting characteristics of the P38 at the top of a vertical climb when the throttle was chopped and then pushed 110% with full back elevator.

You seem to forget that the original IL2 had only a few planes as well, different variants of the IL2, Bf109F, LaGG3, P-39 and such. It didn't start developing into the multi headed monster until later on. Even the Fw190 didn't appear in the release version, it was added later.

Got my preorder in, even went for the 90 dollar job. Wife is going to flip.

At relase: IL2 Sturmovik, Stuka, I16 and Bf109E3. if I remember well

Posted (edited)

right - very few flyables

and

right - it had warts from being stretched way past the limits of the original code structure...they kept trying to keep up with the demand for more plane types to please the crowd - get everyones favorite into the sauce

Hopefully (and I believe they will) this crew is planning ahead - multi engine, land based, sea based, carrier based, high alt, jet engines - all will be welcome.

Yes I still have all of  them.

First IL2, then Ace Expansion Pack,  Forgotten Battles, Pacific Fighters, to finally IL2 1946.

Still have all the original boxes and cd's/dvd's.

I would have to go through some boxes in the loft above my garage to gather them all, but I do have each one.

Might have to display on a shelf someday as a tribute!

Preordered. Boom.

FuriousMeow

Most are already in RoF - multi-engine, land based, sea based, even high alt - up to 6KM.

Just dug through my old software drawer, apparently gets emptied every 7 years (but I don't buy a lot of titles). Every Il-2 release minus the original. Not sure where that is hiding.

I'll be happy to see BoS released - that will mean the Battle of the Coral Sea and Midway are on the horizon....be sure
