having issues in pilot career on June 6 (overlord). three beachhead patrols are generated but when I go to 'proceed' the mission I get this error (I am not in the flight). I've never seen this in the ~3 years I've been playing.

If I set myself as the flight lead - I get into a presumably empty map as a spectator staring at the sea. anyone else have this issue?

Known issue.  A work around is to change your setting in options to takeoff from the airfield.

I had that issue and a dev replied saying it will be fixed on the next update. The workaround is starting from the runway rather than the air on the options tab.

I just checked it in game to make sure nothing has changed, and it's fine. I would imagine it's a control mapping error or mission specific.

 

Thanks, I map both Pitch and Aileron trim to my Warthog jstick POV hat, so that may be the issue. I will try other keys, but odd that pitch trim works fine? I noticed this before we ever came into enemy contact so I doubt it's damage... any thoughts on the "Crashed" report? It was a fairly smooth landing and I even taxied over to the hanger area... no damage at all.

After a few days mucking about with it, I think the map is far more engaging than Id thought it would be espeically with the weather options engaged.. Already used it more than Rhineland. Aside from the hedges, some missing landmarks such as the lightouses and perhaps sea forts and the unavoildable but jarring way some roads cut across the fields (the effect of which could be reduced with, yup, hedges) colour me impressed. A few more random farms and hamlets away from the coasts and airfields and some Oasthouses on the civilised side of the channel wouldnt be a bad thing though.

I am currently downloading the PC version of BON and will link the game to my existing account. I fly exclusively in VR so when launching in Steam, I pick the VR option. How do I select VR when running on PC ? Do I have to launch from the WMR portal ?

 

It will be interesting to compare the VR performance in both platforms.

For the PC version simply check "Enable VR" in the Settings menu when it starts, you can copy over all your config options from the Steam version.

So I am guilty of not checking my facts as well. The aileron trim does need to me mapped to the aileron trim axis to work correctly. The aileron trim switch left and right is for planes with electric trim adjustment like the FW 190. Check to see that you have it mapped to the axis, and if you continue to have issues you might want to start a post in the "controllers" section.

I have installed the PC version and have used the same login details for Steam. The Steam version shows all campaigns plus BON but the PC version only shows BON. I thought linking the two would enable everything everywhere. What could I have done wrong ?

 

Could this be related to only BON being shown on the left of this post ?

Ahh, another Steam victim! The only badge you will see here is the module you purchased from the IL-2 Store. As for the game, you will be able to play everything in Steam, as you found out, because you linked BoN to it. The "link" only works one way - 1C -> Steam, not Steam -> 1C..  Only under special circumstances will 1C set your 1C install to sync with Steam (all module playable in both), so I would just play in Steam if I were you.. this is one of many reasons people are told to buy all modules from the IL-2 Store and not on Steam.

Steam is a different vendor than 1C. 1C doesn't have access to the purchase details from Steam customers (privacy regulations), so IL2 has no legal way to access whatever games you bought on Steam, whether those games include IL2 or not. That's why you need to start from Steam; when you log into the 1C servers with your steam account and have linked it to your IL2 account, IL2 can legally access your purchase details on its own servers and unlock your purchases from both Steam and the 1C store.

 

Personally, I'm glad I bought the Steam version of BoS. All those "many reasons people are told to buy from the IL2 store"... there are also many reasons to buy BoS from Steam (all other modules, you should buy from 1C). I generally advise people to buy the Steam version of BoS if they already use Steam and like it, and to buy the 1C version if you don't use Steam or use it but don't like it.

Thanks! a bit concerned about making over the channel and having enough fuel to fight in a Vb though. I'll give it a go later

Finally about a week after it was released I finally managed to get airborne.

 

 

I have not had much chance to take in the scenery apart from a few hops both sides of the channel but I like what I see so far.

I managed to land the Po-2 on a road and after that was able to take off again, is this a new feature of this map that you don't get stuck anymore when landing on a non-airfield?

I don't think so, I think I did it fairly often with Po2 and Ju52

With other planes, I usally cannot takeof after landing on plain / roads ..., but there is usally a very good reason

Tried last night. Made it to the beachhead and back.

kept the patrol on the French side to about 10 min (didn't want to push it too far)

kept power settings low there and back over the channel

- 2300rpm. 4.0 and below boost.

- speed approx. 260MPH

 

Arrived back at Horne with ~ 15gal of fuel leftover.

Great atmosphere at the beachhead (Juno). I didn't experience any large time dilation with moderate frontline density.

That crossing of the channel is VERY Long though. missions averaging 1hr+.

 

One thing to note:

On the way to France - x8 time speedup worked well (assuming not too many objects loaded in). 

On the way back to England x8 speedup was essentially the same as x1 (assuming because of all the objects loaded in).

25. Aircraft DM: it’s now harder to put out the fires by side-slip movement.

 

I was testing it unfortunately in FC you can easily put out the fires by side slip. There is no difference compared as it  was before. Others also confirmed that. You might look at this again.

If you purchased from the IL-2 Store here simply Login and select the Purchases tab, you should see it there. If you bought it on Steam it would show in your Library and you simply click "Install", but you didn't so Steam won't help you..  unless if possibly you linked it to Steam, but can't say for sure.
