Prevalence of various modifications

Has anyone put together a document summarizing the various modifications, and when and where they were used historically?

 

For instance, both the 109F-2 and F-4 have an armored windscreen option, but from what I can find this seems very common on the F-4 and uncommon on the F-2. Perhaps it was backported onto some F-2s once the F-4 arrived (much like the 20mm conversion)?

 

Or the 20mm gondolas on the Macchi 202, which seem not to have made it past the prototype stage.

 

If I'm trying to play a historical campaign, or build a historical mission, is there a document or thread I can refer to to know when different modifications should arrive? I was considering putting together such a thing, but I'd like to take advantage of prior art, if it exists.

I think Pat Wilson has some data on when certain mods started appearing in service for his generator, maybe check his subforum or make a post over there? Might be a good starting point at least.

 

On a similar note, I've sometimes wondered if it'd be possible to have a limited inventory of Aircraft mods in Career, similar to how a squadron has a limited number of aircraft on inventory at a given time. Some of the less common mods would simply appear in smaller numbers. Better not crash the plane that has those nice guns on it! Maybe something Pat could add to PWCG at least.

I don't have it all in a document, but off the top of my head I can list most of the important ones here, when I have a moment.

I've often thought it'd be good if you kept a document with observations on neat things to do with the campaign (even just copies of your posts)... same goes for your historical clarifications. It'd be great to have a combined document to look through, even if it was a completely disorganised collection of random notes!

That would be great if you could list what you know here for posterity. I tend to prefer historical loadouts, or as much as possible. Trying to find this information can be a challenge. Having it compiled to easily check would be excellent.
