BlitzPig_EL Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 I am unsure how to go about reinstalling the game. I purchased BoS on Steam, and everything else through the IL2 Store. I am used to how this works and want to keep it the same. How do I proceed?
Jaegermeister Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 Last time I did it, I uninstalled with the remove program utility in windows. I backed up my controller files first of course, and then I went to the IL2 directory and manually deleted all the remaining program files. Then I went to the IL2 home page, logged in and navigated to my profile and download; https://il2sturmovik.com/download/ clicked on the icon and installed a fresh copy. Then I dropped my controller files back in and went back to business. If you want to save campaign or offline progress, you should save the mtreecache and ctreecache files I think that's about it.
Hoss Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 Save your Missions, Skins (graphics) and Input folder for your HOTAS settings. You can save your Startup.conf file and install it after you start the game once (should help with GUI settings. My game is installed on a 1TB M.2 SSD on the Motherboard.. OS is on a different SSD.
AEthelraedUnraed Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Prolly a bit late to the party, but @Jaegermeister's solution is *only* for the standalone game, while you indicate you've got the Steam version. In Steam, uninstalling is as easy as right-clicking the game, Manage -> Uninstall. Then wait a couple of minutes (sometimes seconds even, Steam is really fast), then right-click the now greyed-out IL2 entry, and press Install to install again. Of course the hints about backing up your files still apply. Looking at your badges, if you install it using Jaegermeisters way you won't have acccess to the BoS planes/map. Also, the mtreecache and ctreecache files have nothing to do with campaign progress and you can safely delete them. Campaign progress is stored in the \data\swf\il2\usersave directory, career progress in data\Career. 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted June 21, 2022 Author Posted June 21, 2022 I did use Steam for the uninstall, then manually deleted a few remaining files. Reinstalled with Steam, logged in, linked my accounts and was off and running. Added in the things I backed up one at a time and found the culprit file that killed my original install. It was ACC Data. When I put my backed up version of that file in, I could no longer see my multiplayer>Dogfight mission files when in the hosting screen. So... repeated the process and everything is back to normal, more or less. 1
