Game not accessing my saved DF missions.

I did post in the tech forum, but I'm hoping someone here may have a quicker answer to my problem.

I was working on a new DF mission and saved it.  I then opened the game to test fly it, only when I got to the multiplayer hosting screen, none of my missions were showing in either of the available mission panes, and all my hosting settings were different.  I tried verifying my game files on steam, no no avail.  I also used the "convert to binary" tool in the mission builder and applied it to my DF folder, again, no joy.  So I generated a brand new mission with Vander's Easy Mission Generator and saved it, and it isn't seen by the game either.

I can open any of my old missions in the editor,  and save them, but the multiplayer hosting screen does not show them.

Any ideas?   I host for the BlitzPigs and without me, well, those of us that still fly the sim are essentially done, at least online.

I can fly offline with Quick Missions, and the game works properly other wise.

I'd hate to think that years of my work is forever lost...

:(

Have you tried deleting some of the cache files? I can't rember their names off the top of my head. I had similar problem with offline SP missions not showing and this sorted it

No I have not done that.   Any idea where they are to be found?

Stop the game and delete mtreecache.eng in your game folder under /data. It is regenerated when you start the game again.

@BlitzPig_EL, is it possible that you have another install of the game somewhere. That scenario happened to someone else a while back. They did not realize that they were saving missions in one install and running another install.

Only one install.  I'll try the cache thing.  Thank you.

Well I tried deleting the three different treecache files.  No effect.  I've been through the game directory several times looking for things that may effect this.  Used the Steam file check tool twice, resaved all the files in the DF folder, and, converted them to binary as well.

*sigh*

Looks like it's reinstall time.  But not today, I'm too burned out for that.

Also just noticed that my server settings, timeouts, password, server message, etc...  are not being saved.

Before you reinstall, can you do the following:

  • Zip and post a MP dogfight mission that does not work.

  • Post the full path to:
    - Your IL-2 game .exe file.
    - The folder where you saved the mission that you post here (or any of your missions that do not show up in MP).

  • Create a very simple single player mission and multiplayer mission in the editor and see if they show up.

  • Elaborate on what you mean by "all my hosting settings were different" in the opening post. Different than what?

We posted at the same time.

All the different tick boxes on the server page, and the various timeout settings, number of players, etc...  all went to game defaults from what I normally use.

The forum merged my last two posts...

The desktop shortcut has this address in properties:  steam://rungameid/307960

Game exe path:  This PC>Games(E)>Steam>Steam>Steamapps>Common>IL2 Battle of Stalingrad>bin>game  (note: the exe is in this location but the steam shortcut of course starts the game from steam though I can start the game from here as well)

The following mission, and all of my DF missions are located here:

 This PC>Games(E)>Steam>Steam>Steamapps>Common>IL2 Battle of Stalingrad>data>Multiplayer>Dogfight

New Desert Early.zip

Yeah, I know there are two "Steam" folders in the path, oops on me, but it has worked since I installed the game.

Hope you can make something of this.

I checked out your mission and it seems fine. The game and editor paths seem OK too.

This is a real puzzle. The symptoms you're getting do suggest another install somewhere. Did you order all of your IL-2 releases off of Steam? If not, do you have any folders called "1C Game Studios" hanging around anywhere on your drives?

Maybe you're correct and something is screwed up, requiring a reinstall. I don't think it's a case of not owning a map or planes used on a map.

I purchased BoS on Steam, everything else from the store here, and I linked my accounts years ago.

Curiouser and curiouser...

I'll look for any 1C folders.

Thank you for your time sir, I do appreciate it.

No problem EL. Glad to help you out.

If you do find a 1C folder, it may be the case that you are running IL-2 from Steam and the editor from 1C, or vice-versa.

And, just in case the worst case scenario happens, other than my skins, and missions, and the input folder, what else should I backup for reinstall?

Cockpit camera positions/snapviews found in \data\LuaScripts\snapviews

I'm not 100% sure on all of this, but here are some suggestions:

  • startup.cfg, under /data

  • Folders under /data: ACCData, Campaigns, input, LuaScripts, Missions, Multiplayer, swf (subfolders contain user data), Template (I back this up because I created some of my own templates for mission building and this seemed like a good place to keep them).

  • /Screenshots folder
