How to add newer planes to career mode? Detailed step by step PLEASE.

Hello everyone ?

I attempted to search to see if this has been asked before, I am sure it has, but I did not find it in the forum. I am looking for detailed step by step instructions for how to change game files and/or download and install a mod that allows you to change what aircraft your squadron gets assigned/sent to you in Career Mode. (Currently I am in JG 52 Battle of Stalingrad). I would like to add the Bf109 G14 to my career just for the fun of it. I know providing detailed instructions for something like this can be tedious so I will thank you in advance, I really appreciate any time or effort you put into this. (Or maybe you happen to know where this has been posted before and can just provide the link?)

Thank you so much! I hope you all are having a great summer! ?

This could easily be done in Il2-1946 (and some quite awesome careers could follow from it - I have very fond memories of flying the A-20G as replacement for the IL2 in 1943-45)

It's not possible to do in this sim unfortunately, due to the structure of the career mode.

However, PWCG might give you exactly the possibilities you're looking for.

This is a good starting point, see what files the mod changes and do something similar:

That's not true; the career files are moddable, including those files that determine the aircraft type. It's been a while since I last did anything of the kind so I can't give you any detailed instructions, but everything you're looking for is in the data\scg directory.

Get ready for some very heavy text crunching. If you don't have any experience with modding, I recommend you take the easy route and just use PWCG instead, as suggested.

\data\scg\scripts\[campaigncode]squadrons.cfg and \data\scg\[campaigncode]\squadrons.cfg are the files you're looking for. Find your squadron and change its plane property to the code of the plane you want.

Campaign codes:

13 - Moscow

14 - Stalingrad

15 - Kuban

18 - Rheinland

Thank you for the responses. What is PWCG? This is a mod for the game? Where do I find this?

It's been a few years. I gave this a try back in the day and couldn't get it to work. I decided not to bother anyone for more help.

Well, I am back into the same career and I still don't know how to do this. I tried AEthelraedUnraed's  instruction. I found the files indicated but I could not open either file to try to read it or manipulate it as the file sizes are to big for either Word or Notepad apparently. I also looked into PWCG but I think that only allows you to do this through the mod with a new save, I don't think you can manipulate a current career, or can you? (I have been playing this character through all of BoM and almost have finished BoS so I don't want to start over with someone new.)

Any other advice on how to get this done?

Thanks.

I was able to open the file data/scripts on notepad and I found all the places I think I needed to change the plane code ("LuaScripts\WorldObjects\Planes\Bf109G14.txt") That's the code I believe I needed to change from Bf109F2 or Bf109G2 to Bf109G14 at the end. I am hoping these weren't just codes for skins but for the actual plane to be used.
Anyway, I did that. I first saved the original file as a backup, then I saved my edited file and left that in the folder, moving the original file out. I attempted to load the game and I got the error "File note found: graphics\shaders\trash\bkgr.fx" I do not think I changed any other code/file in the game. Now in this thread I was told I would need to edit both the scg file and the scripts file. I could only get the scripts file to open, I do not know how to open and edit the scg file because I get an error saying it is to large a file for Word or Notepad.

So, is this error due to my editing the scripts file but not the scg file? Or did I edit the wrong thing in the scripts file? What am I doing wrong here?

I am very new to modding, I have only gone into game files and edited them to mod a game a few times.

Thank you for any help or advise! Please let me know if you would need any other info or screenshots from me.

To clarify - both scripts and scg are folders, not files. They should be in the same folder structure as I wrote above. If you get an error about the file being too large, you're likely trying to open the scg.gtp file rather than the scg folder. The scg.gtp file is a compressed file that includes (among others) the scg folder.

Note that you first need to unpack the files using unGTP-IL2.exe. The unpacked files will appear in a newly created "(null)" directory. Move any files you want to edit outside this directory, in the same folder structure.
