Dear Pilots!

Battle of Normandy is getting closer and closer to that special moment - its release! Testing of the map and game modes will begin soon. New mission types are being created for the Normandy Career. Work is nearing completion on the last aircraft on the project list – the Me 410. All this is happening right now and the work is in full swing. However, at the same time, we try to release those elements of the project that are already ready without delay. So, today, we are producing two aircraft created as part of BON. The first one is the Arado AR 234 B-2.

.........................

The second plane is the B-26B-55 Marauder AI twin-engine bomber.

.........................
In addition, several other changes were made to improve the project, the list of which can be found below:

did they fix the bug where you instantly die even on the most gentle of belly landings?

Either way, I can't believe the jet bomber is in the game already! Thanks for all the hard work, it's really paying off!

Thanks for the update.  My turn to be Debbie Downer.  I'm just a little frustrated at getting AI only US bombers.  And the one US one we do have lacks the bombardier station and thus the view out the glass nose and the inability to access the bombsite controls on the ground.  Just don't get it.

Which had more impact on the war?

Arado AR 234 - Total built: 214

Martin B-26 - Total built: 5,288

North American B-25 - Total built: 9,816 (edit)

OK, I'm done.  Now I'm going to go fly, which I enjoy immensely.

BTW, when I fly a bomber I only care about piloting and bombing.  I could care less about being in a gunner position.  Leave those as AI, I'm fine with that and I bet many others would be too.

Up until the latest update they've all gone in smoothly, this time I'm left hanging on the launch screen after the fist pass of the red line across the bottom. I'm a total luddite when it comes to computers, any idea what could have gone wrong? No joy after a couple of restarts but there's nothing obviously amiss. Have deleted the contents of the update folder and tried again twice. After analyzing the files it redownloaded 372mB but still hangs on launch. Help!!

EDIT*

I'll let the question stand but don't spam the thread with a full data dump, please. You can put the data dump in a spoiler if necessary. Contact support if you can't get it solved with community help.

Salute for an excellent release and my excitement for the full release of Normandy grows with each drip of features.

May I ask for this release, in the notes it states...

6. Improved physics of aircraft collision with static objects;

Will that relate to Tanks as well? I.e a wheel barrow will no longer take out a tank? or is it laying the ground work for this issue to be addressed later?

Congrats on the release! The Arado flies like a dream and that new autopilot is great. I hope the team finds time to get it in other aircraft!

Awesome update!

Although the B-26 is implemented as an AI piloted plane, the quality of this bird is just as good as all the other flyable ones.

"Too good to not make it flyable and give the players another option."  is the part, that got lost in the broadcast, I think ?.

My feeling is the devs are well aware of the demand of a proper allied medium bomber and sooner or later we will get a flyable B-25 and B-26, maybe even a Mossie Mk IV/IX/XVI/XX.

Doing all the research and developement and not doing the final step can only mean, that at the moment there aren´t enough resources. Once Normandy is released, there will be an announcement I think. ?

Dive bombing sight?? Is it the same as Ju-88's Stuvi? I'd LOVE to see that in Ju-88 too!

Another one done... I'll never fly it though, but there are Luftwaffles out there with wet knickers I suspect!

The B-26 looks really great!  And I really want there to be a flyable marauder, but I feel that the time has come to develop an AI bombardier and an AI navigator.. In other words, I really want a flyable  marauder, but I only want to pilot it, and not jump between a bomb sight and a stick

Amazing guys, super work, that Arado couldnt have been easy to model given the complexities of it. The B26 looks amazing as well, and adds another layer to the immersion that we have with the sim, it will be a pleasure to attempt to shoot down!

Posted (edited)

Very cool! I love the start rockets, it really takes off with those things. Drogue chute is cool too. And THANK YOU for giving it [EDIT: the option for] a normal automatic startup procedure! Going through the manual procedure on the 262 was fun once, but mostly if I'm doing a cold start I just want to hit a button, listen to the engines spool up, and be on my way. [For some reason I thought the 262 couldn't be started automatically. Checked again and it actually can, just like every other plane in the game. Not sure how I missed that, but never mind.]

Two thoughts:

1. Could we have an option for hold instead of toggle on the periscope?

2. The toe brake animations seem to be backwards.

And one other thing I appreciate from the last update is the new name lists for career mode. The old ones were way too short and repetitive. I had two "von Grabenhorsts" in my II./JG52, and how many von Grabenhorsts are there? The new lists are an enormous improvement. Not a huge thing, but does make a difference. Thanks!

PS.

And as soon as I wrote that about the startup, I wondered if I missed something on the 262, sure enough I pushed the button and it started right up. Disabled all the auto-engine stuff and it went back to the manual procedure. Likewise for the Arado. Not sure when that change happened, or if it wasn't just like that all along, but thanks either way! Great to have the option on both planes.

i love the update
Two queries:
1- in virtual reality, it has not allowed us to enter the dive bomber sight, but the normal bombing sight, is there something strange?
2- Do the brakes appear to be visually inverted? Or were they like that in reality?

Posted (edited)

One other small issue: in VR, either the head position is too low or the lower limit of where you can move your head is too high. I bump into the lower bound if I tilt my head down even slightly, had to move the default position up a bit to fix it. This is actually an issue in a number of planes, although more often it's the front or rear bound that is the problem.

No, this is a bug, will be solved in the upcoming hotfix.

Dive bombing sight is enabled by LShift+V.

Roll on tomorrow to be a sprog pilot learning to fly the Arando.

However I do have one request that I have asked for before. Devs will you please cut the number of flyable aircraft by around 50%. There are too many to choose from causing great stress and time wasted deciding what to fly.

Sorry I didn't realise that was not policy, I'm in the dark as to what to do here so I thought it might be of use to someone who knew what they were doing and could help.

Maybe it was there before and I didn't notice sooner but I've seen some controls that I've not seen before.

I mean "Trim channel..." and stuff like that in plane controls.

But what do those all mean?

Have a nice day.

Cool stuff team.  Great job!

Can you share any details regarding these 2 items:

. Improved impact of small arms recoil on aircraft;
6. Improved physics of aircraft collision with static objects;

Thanks in advance.

Just downloaded update. I'm not seeing the new AR-234 in my aircraft list to fly? I have the steam version but pre-ordered battle of Normandy?  I can fly the the new Mosquito so why not the Ar-234?

Not available in quick missions?

I did a short hop this morning before work.

Not sure why anybody would want a flyable B-26. It explodes the moment a seagull farts near it. Absolute death-trap. And the Arado has an undocumented feature - it is able to run straight across small rivers without the need for a bridge. Those clever German engineers...

In this and the previous update my game will crash to desktop if I attempt to access track records unless I first empty the Tracks folder of all previous content. That seems to include Tacview files, whether from BoS or other program. This is new since previously the Tracks folder did not have to be emptied of prior content in order to be able to record and replay new track files.

Well, arguably the Arado 234 restored a daylight reconnaissance capability that was otherwise being lost. So one can ask 'What is more important? The ability to know what the enemy is doing or one of several platforms for aerial bombardment?'.

A single recon aircraft can unmask the preparations of an entire army... it takes hundreds of bombers several days worth of bombardment to undermine the logistics of that army's preparations.

That said, I'm quite glad the Americans are getting their medium-altitude daylight bomber! I just don't think we should under-estimate the importance of reconnaissance (nor the daring often involved in pulling it off)!

Yes, I was a fan of the Sepecat Jaguar until I saw the training film on its stall characteristics. My main hesitation regarding the Rumpler C.IV (other than a slower early-war German two seater being more needed - i.e. a B class or LVG C.II or Albatros C.I) is the reported poor handling and sudden almost unrecoverable spin. I'm quite content to let the AI fly such aircraft ?

That said, I do like challenging aircraft and aircraft that are at a disadvantage - but really nasty spin characteristics stress me out!

We know that there are some issues in Arado's physical interactions with water, will be solved in the hotfix as well.

So the Arado can walk on water? Quickly - someone collect footage of this before the hotfix is released!

While downloading ,can anyone answer this question : will they show up in the “Quick Mission”, “Instant Missions “ on the Rhineland map ( I suspect…?) Ilook forward to trying to intercept the new Arado with the Tempest or even the Mosquito!

So, Landing Craft....

From what I can see I can not create a scene with the craft unloading their goods as none of the objects seem to have the doors down? or is there some other logic that gets used if I beach the craft?

In the developer diary pictures there is a boat with the door down? (see below) has that craft not been released to us yet?
