Yes a lot of interesting aircraft existed (and even this list is missing a few interesting ones!)

However, it is also worth noting that many aircraft can't be modelled because there isn't sufficient surviving documentation to allow them to be reproduced at the quality level required by the new Il-2.

That said there are probably enough interesting aircraft for at least five more modules (enough for ten years more development).

We need the P-26!  Might die many horrible deaths in WWII but you can dominate the skies in WWI.

For readability, you might want to put it inside a Spoiler tag ;)

Note that 1946 didn't quite have the "modifications" system BoX has. I.e. every different engine or whatever would've been a separate plane in 1946, whereas it's a modification in BoX. Still, BoX has an unsurpassable amount of different aircraft, but then again the quality isn't really comparable either :)

I made mods for a half dozen variants which aren't in here... sadly I wasn't able to find a 3d modeller who wanted to team up and some were broken by later patches (I didn't fix them enough for release) - one was the historically accurate TB-3 equipped with 3x76mm cannons (really needed a gunsight added to the cockpit though), another was the SB/Di-8 fighter variants (complete with historically accurate APK recoilless rifles firing buckshot), an Fi-156 with bomb racks, the proposed Hs-129 with rockets (and paired oblique firing Mk-103), a bunch of Lisunov Li-2 variants (including the gunship variants - albeit speculative as the position of the guns wasn't documented), some unusual U-2VS variants... and a few fieldmods of aircraft with reduced weapon loads. A bunch of these actually existed - I think the most 'questionable' one was probably the Fw-189A4 (there is very little evidence for this one)... anyway, if someone wants to finish any of these - PM me and I'll send you what I have.

So the list could be longer :)

Just above "Me-210Ca-1"

I agree that the list needs a 'spoiler' tag.

Hi, by the way, why no Yak-3 in Il-2 GB ? It's an iconic soviet plane. And their is a lot of documentation about it, some are still flying and there are even some others rebuild from scratch here and there.

As a collector plane if not in a late war opus maybe ?

Because there's no relevant map or a 1944-45 campaign for it right now.

We need a Battle of Berlin map. That would allow both Allied and Soviet late war gameplay (with module itself focused on Soviets vs. Germans, of course), although it would also need some engine improvements that would allow big cities to bog performance down less.

I really do hope 1C can keep at it with the current game, updating it, but keeping the old content valid. They created an amazing game and can't wait to see what it is coming after Normandy. My hopes are on The Pacific, but if it is Italy that would be great, North Africa and Battle of Britain even better but we know they are not going to step on TFS work.

I wish this "gentlemen's agreement" would be scrapped, especially for North Africa.  I'd love to have the maps and planeset for North Africa in this sim as that is one of my favorite theaters of operation in WW2, but the old Clod engine and graphics and well, almost everything about it don't cut it anymore.  My guys tried going back to CLoD/Tobruk and well, nope.  It's hard to go back to the farm once you have seen the bright lights of the big city, as they say.

Either might possibly exist, though frankly I'd be very surprised if 1C-777 had signed a contract limiting what potential products they could release. It's all guesswork though, since as far as I'm aware, there has been no official statement about any of this. Lots of forum speculation, plus the usual over-interpretation of comments made in passing by Jason.

Well... there are still a lot of plausible development paths that could be done prior to returning to the Mediterranean.

If new modules remain profitable (or become more profitable over time) I could seem them redoing North Africa in five to ten years, but there are certainly a lot of other options that could keep them busy for ten years (at which point the Cliffs of Dover engine would be as old as the original Il-2 is now). Here are some hypothetical pathways:

BoX.thumb.png.db92ada175599bb3bc5f33dc35eb54d4.png

That said, we don't know how profitable a lot of these would be (we don't have sales data), some of these would require large investments (e.g. developing tech for carriers, developing assets for a tropical country) and there are limitations in the available references for IJA/IJN aircraft - which would require finding a bunch of archival sources we assume were lost or would require them to fill in a lot of gaps with speculation (something the devs don't want to do).

I think it’s mainly 777 being nice, not stepping on TFs toes, but I don’t think anything would change if both released North Africa. I was never that interested in Clod and have no interest in getting their addon, wether there is a similar product by 777 or not. There are people who prefer Clod and still fly it rather than the GB games and there are people who prefer GB and don’t want to fly Clod or anything based on the old engine. Both games have pros and cons. I just prefer what GB has to offer

And same here.

As much as I respect TF's work, it should not stand in the way of BoX's future.

Have a nice day.

With battle of Normandy near completion,I think we will know soon,I think if we do get a PTO ( I hope so )

That adds a problem with early access stuff,Japanese planes will proberly be done last as we will have nowhere to fly them as the map always comes last.

I suppose if we do get Japanese planes early we could fly them on the kuban map.

I think if we all could have a vote we would go PTO,but myself would be happy with anything as long as it’s ww2

My money is on battle of France,I do like the early war planes better, that way all early access planes we will have a scenerio to fly them on release ( Normandy map )

Interesting debate but if we do get PTO,we will have to wait 2 years  for a map to fly the planes on!

I do think a PTO would need a lot of work and maybe a new game engine so I do not hold out much hope

You guys do realize that Jason Williams, you know the Executive Producer for IL-2 Great Battles, is the one who gave Team Fusion the source code for the Original game and is why all of TFS' work and Desert Wings-Tobruk (and their next installment after) is an official product. Jason and the devs are very passionate for TFS' work and what they have given us/plan to give us in the future. Jason even posted this: Desert Wings - Tobruk Message from Jason - General Discussion - IL-2 Sturmovik Forum (il2sturmovik.com)

It's just stupid, no beyond stupid that while Jason and the devs have no problem with the IL-2 Dover series covering areas that don't overlap with their products like the Mediterranean and will be very enjoyable, this is a big problem for some delusional community members.

If you have a problem with 1CGS supporting Team Fusion, waste not your time arguing about it here and instead take it up with Jason. That's the most logical solution.

What I have an issue with is an outdated game taking precedence over the premier title in the 1CGS stable, and keeping Great Battles from covering an interesting, and important theater of operations.  It's nothing personal about Team Fusion, which probably how you are taking it.

What if there many more reasons than simply ‘CloD/IL-2 Dover series already/going there’ that prevents IL-2 GBs going there like profitability or game engine limitations? Seriously man, if Jason really wanted to do North Africa then he would have gone there already like right after Kuban instead of doing Bodenplatte, regardless of TFS’ plans. Also, you declared CloD an outdated game and I totally disagree with you. If in 2016 Jason determined that the game was — and in the very near future — dated and wasn’t worth continuing development of it, commercially wise, then he wouldn’t have given TFS the source code. But since he did then that means that CloD is not dated and is commercially worth continuing development.

While you have nothing personal against Team Fusion, you are clearly buttmad about a “gentlemen’s agreement” preventing IL-2 GBs from going to North Africa and therefore you should take it up with Jason and quit with the nonsense spamming.

How is that? It cost him literally nothing. He gave the guys access to something that already existed and in return they get some extra money from sales. WITH NO EFFORT.
Clod IS outdated. There is a better engine and it’s powering the Great Battles Series. Why did Jason do Bodenplatte instead of Africa? Get the US fanboys. Bring in the bubble canopy P-51 and P-47. That’s why?

Team Fusion is not stopping this team from going forward and creating a compelling product. We both know what I mean and we’ve discussed it exhaustively. Further, setting up a situation where they’re basically competing against themselves would be…hmmm…so many words come to mind. ?

Let’s settle on “silly” for now.

Cliffs is simply dead.  There's not a lot more to say.

 https://steamcharts.com/app/754530

These figures don't refer to just multiplayer, they encompass all users.  This means that IL2 1946, RoF, Strike fighters, even European Airwar have more regular users.  It's quite possible European Airwar multiplayer - a fairly recent invention - has more regular users.

TFS highwater mark was actually making CLoD useable in a multiplayer enviroment....but that was the best part of a decade ago.  Since then it's been on a continuous decline.

It was never a commercial product on it's release and TFS have failed to make it one in the following nine years......

Fair points, and interesting.

So, from a 1C 'bean counter' perspective...

Do they say A. CloD is not making any revenue, so let's duplicate these efforts in the GB environment.

OR B...do they say "customers have been exposed to these theaters for years and years, participation is less than stellar...

Let's expose our customer base to something fresh and void stepping on our TF partners at least for now.

?

See what I mean...we can go both ways.

I know which way I'd go. :)

"If you have a problem with 1CGS supporting Team Fusion, waste not your time arguing about it here and instead take it up with Jason. That's the most logical solution."

Jason will do, what Jason will do. I'm not here to waste his time, only yours. ?

I hope he has something more important to do. And I voted the very best way I know how, I bought the products that suited me best. So Jason et al already knows...

Of course there are many varied, potentially profitable and fun scenarios, that can be done.

And I'm perfectly willing to wait for whatever comes next, no matter my personal preferences.

But this idea that duplicating content over different games is somehow financial suicide seems far fetched to me.  Take RoF to Flying Circus as an example...it's literally the same content, and I seem to be buying that all over.(And it's engine isn't as old as Clods) Just like Il21946 to Clod to BoX to something else....

Bean counters?

Don't bean counters really want cash flow? Yeah some things sell better that others but the most important thing is to keep them coming through the door? Are we really sure that Mediterranean scenarios are poor sellers? Or was the most recent Med. scenario done on an already out of date and unpopular game? (Shrugs) I don't know but I have a few guesses....

If doing something different was the most important thing then why have they made so many 109's FW190's Yak's and Spitfires? How many WWII first person shooters have been bought that cover the exact same subject over and over... It's about moving the games to newer/better tech as programing and hardware move along. That's the trend, like it or not. And we pay for that upgrade by buying it all over again, that's life.

So I contend, there is no real reason to give up the Med(or any other theater) to Clod or any other sim. I want to see what THIS development team can do with those subjects. I'm not buying anymore Clod products to get that stuff. (Fool me once...I'm not falling for that PoS again.) So they're making zero off me as it stands. But I'd happily pony up the cash, in full, for that stuff in this sim.

But don't worry I have no illusions that I've swayed anyone's opinion. This is the internet after all. :)

Cheers,

M.

Enceladus, I am not "buttmad" about anything, nor am I spamming.  In fact you are the one that constantly spams this forum about Cliffs, and takes offense if anyone offers an opinion about Cliffs other than your personal view that it is the best thing since sliced bread.

It was a fun game for a while, though it never really equaled the success of the original IL2, nor the current Great Battles series.  We played it because at the time it was all there was that advanced beyond the original, but that was a long time ago.  It was hampered by it's single theater of operations that was cool at first but needed to expand quickly beyond going up, day after day from Manston and intercepting 109Es and He111s.  But that is water under the bridge now.

That’s why?

This old chestnut again. How many of us flew this series for several years without P-51s or P-47s supporting the series until something we really wanted was introduced? So tell us then, would you have bought into the GB series had it started in say, the PTO without any Luftwaffe A/C? Or is your contempt of U.S. flyers wanting what they want the same bias you would've had?

What I have an issue with is an outdated game taking precedence over the premier title in the 1CGS stable, and keeping Great Battles from covering an interesting, and important theater of operations.  It's nothing personal about Team Fusion, which probably how you are taking it.

Does it really though?

It may well be the case that Jason will finally find a way to deliver the Pacific, that Han will get to do Korea, and that they'll give Eastern  Europe a later war planeset... and that all of this will happen regardless of what Team Fusion is doing.

If so, priorities set for reasons other than Team Fusion would delay any moved to the Mediterranean until at least six to eight years from now! They might decide to do Italy 1944 at that point (which wouldn't overlap with Team Fusion) or do BoB/BoF as a stepping stone... which takes us to eight to ten years. All of these decisions might be taken regardless of anything Team Fusion does or does not do - decisions being made for completely unrelated reasons.

What might be the case is that Team Fusion successfully builds more knowledge and interest in North Africa as a result of their work - to the extent that it becomes clear that a Mediterranean module would be financially viable.

In other words, Team Fusion doing what they do:

1) Likely doesn't delay any move of BoX/Great Battles to the Mediterranean, and if it does the impact is probably very little

2) Team Fusion's work may be what results in a BoX/Great Battles Mediterranean module (which is unlikely to happen without Team Fusion paving the way).

Anyway, I think you guys are being silly, the situation isn't 'zero sum', and we should be grateful to the Team Fusion members for creating the first purpose built Mediterranean sim (something which certainly wouldn't have happened by now if it wasn't for their many long hours).
