Blitzen Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 No its not a remake of the old & very flawed 633 Squadron but a brand new Danish film that portrays the bombing of Gestapo headquarters in 1945 in a semi historical way. It features a very well done segment featuring the Mosquitos that took part in the low level raid & at least to this viewer are very well done along with the stories of the civilians within the target area. Altogether it is an excellent ,involving story & film, but be warned it packs an emotional gut punch because it also shows the effects of the bombers that missed the headquarters & hits other buildings tin hat were not targeted & the losses that were heavy in those un targeted buildings ( this is a sort of spoiler alert for those ,like me, might get emotionally involved. ( BTW Its on Netflix & perfectly dubbed. ) 3 2 2
CUJO_1970 Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Yeah, while waiting for the Mosquito to arrive I'll be watching the ballistics on my 20 and 30mm and waiting patiently to turn that wooden wonder into sawdust. 2 1
Asgar Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 I‘m gonna look for it, sounds good. Now post a movie about the 410! ?

easterling77 Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 While waiting, I'm dreaming of how much havoc I can make with this Molins Gun...and when there, how close I can come to BRRRRRRT with the 6X20mm mod in the 410?

Raptorattacker Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 @Blitzen Wow!! Just watched it. That was something else. It pretty much got everything that needed to be told about that. VERY GOOD. Thanks. Rap

Not to be forgotten one of the finest foreign films that broke into the genre… Edited April 30, 2022 by Blitzen 1

I think the sub-plot about the boy was a bit redundant, but then again it's supposed to show the effect of the war on people. 1

It just didn't do it for me, that opening scene kinda set the tone for me of the movie, also wasn't really a fan of the nun and collaborator storyline. 9 hours ago, Blitzen said: Yes …I really enjoyed the section on the glider drop, but the rest of the film moved along as well! Now this one, I loved! "The Forgotten Battle" was really well done and I liked how the different viewpoints interacted. Highly recommend this one! 1

Just sayin'... Absolutely. A well acted human drama with an intriguing storyline very much in the vein of Twelve O'clock High where the flying was the backdrop. I thought the CGI scenes were very well done in this film. Very intense. Excellent movie. 1

BOO Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 (edited) I enjoyed it. An a Englanger brought up on the classic 50s and 60s war films on a Sunday afternoon, European fims such as this and Forgotten Battle offer an authentic feeling and often uncomfortable counterpoint of a total war, not fought by screen idols but endured by ordinary people. Fortunately for the film the tragic and dramatic "background" events of the raid, along with the great perfomances of the young actors, help support some fairly weak story telling and.character development, being either either non existent or superfluous fluff. The broken model sequence was about as jarring and clunky an omen setter as it was possible to get. The dreaded CGI wasnt overdone too much and it was nice to see aircaft banking and turning rather than tilting over and moving sideways although I think 1 bomb follow to target would have been sufficient for me to get the message (especially having endured Pearl Harbor). From the narrow perspective of a simmer there was no real "thats not a Focke Wulfe its a Texan" moments save for the spurious squadron codes and positioning .The limited visibilty and dirty screens added some feeling of the RL difficulties and dangers that we dont have to endure in sims too whilst looking back over the shoulder of the pilot to see mossies breaking left and right captured perfectly many of those iconic low level WW2 air to air photos. The biggest "NO!" was thankfully a relatively minor blooper in the english dubbing when the RAF mission giver uses Km/h (something I suspect would have had him shot as a spy on the spot had he brought any of that metric muck into our 1945 nissan huts). Not really a fault of the orginal film. At the end of the film though, I was left with only one thought - why did Eva's mum not just turn left? Edited May 1, 2022 by BOO 1
LLv34_Flanker Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 S! Watched it. Not your typical war film. Liked it, flying scenes were ok.

THAT was SO obvious wasn't it? I thought, "Go on... take at least ONE left turn... ooh, nope, right again!". Then, she arrives at the flat and you're left thinking exactly that when it becomes obvious!! Thinking about it, she could even have taken just ONE right turn and arrived at the same destination? I suppose, being charitable to them, they'd probably had all the traffic blocked froom a small area and couldn't afford a left turn!!
Lusekofte Posted May 11, 2022 Posted May 11, 2022 Watched it weeks ago, though to watch considering its relevance today. Wonderful acting by those kids, and good flying scenes
