blitze Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Finally, after two and a bit years waiting - I got my VR kit completed. With that, my base stations. Now enjoying 6 DOF as opposed to the 3 previously. Also not having to bang the recenter mapped button to deal with the previous 3 DOF gyro drift. So much better as is being able to move to the sight, back out again or move forward a little to look behind. Question, do most of you guys use the default cockpit seated positions or do you have it moved a little forward and centered? I used to have my old view centered but 1/4 way back off the sight full forward view. Now thinking the reverse, 1/4 from full back. Anyway, now enjoying a bit more movement freedom in the cockpit and the hard limits are not an issue for me so far but I haven't flown the Macchi or 109's yet in this setup.
dburne Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 I personally tend to sit probably a little further forward.

I put my "virtual head" to where the real pilot's head would be. Anything else just feels wrong to me in VR. I don't use the default position in any plane I fly, because they were set for pancake mode, not VR. 2
blitze Posted March 18, 2022 Author Posted March 18, 2022 Thanks for the input. I was thinking head position would be more setup for Pancake fliers.
Schwalberich Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 I did what Goffik mentioned previously for all aircrafts I own. Look where Pilot head is positioned on outside view and tried to match head position as close as possible. Lot of checking back and forth but after around 2 hours I got all my Planes setup for 2D mode. Seems I nailed it for VR as it directly felt right to sit in the planes I tested. 1

It is worth the time to set up each aircraft too, or just spend some time in QMB switching between outside to internal views to get to know where the seat should be. von Tom 2
Picchio Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 (edited) @von_Tom I'm a bit lazy and I'm going to ask: could you share the .lua (I think it was a .lua) with the settings you re-configured based on the outside view? In many aircraft I feel I have no back and shoulders, looking at where the seat and headrest are... Edited March 18, 2022 by Picchio

Best to do it yourself because the position will change depending on your setup. If it is easier, follow this simple rule of thumb: Luftwaffe aircraft - lean back and slightly right in your chair, then hit the VR centre key. Allied aircraft - lean straight back and hit the VR centre key. After each, just sit normally and you'll be in a better place. Aircraft with a mirror are easy, because you should be able to use it naturally without any contortions. von Tom
Goffik Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 (edited) There's a mod around here somewhere which centres the view in all planes. (Some newer planes may not be affected.) It's a good starting point for getting your VR position sorted, especially in German planes since it eliminates the off-centre default position. Edited March 18, 2022 by Goffik

You really don't need a mod for that, can set the center view for each plane with the default key commands.

I don't think you understand. The default view is the default view. For German planes this is off to one side, so that when you are playing in 2D it is centred on the gunsight. Returning the view to default puts you back in this offset position. Last time I checked, your view position could not be modified by keyboard commands when playing in VR. They only worked in 2D. I even posted a suggestion ages ago that the same functions be available in VR. If they now work in VR, then great... problem solved. But that is why the mod exists. Someone went through the planes and centred all the default viewpoints. It means VR players can jump in and fly, without having to lean to strange angles while hitting the VR reset button to get their view in the correct head position. Edited March 18, 2022 by Goffik

Well all I can say is the planes I have used so far ( admittedly not all that many) I never have to adjust my position after using the default keys to adjust it and save it.

Yeah, this is the bit I was on about. You're saying you can now use the view movement keys in VR to position your head exactly where you want it? If so then that is an added feature which I would be very happy about. Edited March 19, 2022 by Goffik

I have not tried it in VR myself as I just did it in 2d on the monitor. Usually took me two or three tries to get it where it was right for me in VR. But I understand now you can do it in VR as well. It has been a while since I needed to do it. 1
blitze Posted March 22, 2022 Author Posted March 22, 2022 Seeing it is easier to adjust position in VR when you have 6DOF. Been doing final adjustments just in headset. Makes keeping things tracked (targets / flight) much easier as well.
