Giggles Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Just curious as to why we are getting one, but not both? The beau would give an option for more coastal anti ship missions, that 18" torpedo would be fun to drop on ships.
ShamrockOneFive Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Each plane takes time to build. Most products in the IL-2 series have a 2-2.5 year period where they are developed and that gives us about 10 aircraft. Choices have to be made and the team has done a pretty good job over the years of giving us a range of aircraft types whenever they could. We've got the Mosquito because of its role in the Normandy battle. I'm sure if we get another scenario where an opportunity existed for a Beaufighter, it would be on the list of potential aircraft.
Gambit21 Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Mossie is more icoic/marketable as well. It’s simply smart development. Beaufughter makes sense for PTO. 2

Enceladus828 Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 @Giggles, IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz and Desert Wings Tobruk has three flyable versions of the Beaufighter: Beaufighter IF (in Blitz), Beaufighter IF - Late and Beaufighter IC (both in Tobruk). Store / IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles (il2sturmovik.com)

Store / IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles (il2sturmovik.com) due to the fact that my computer went "tits up" and died like a gold fish in a blender after i tried some beta level game on Steam... im staying away from it. The mosquito is a nice plane, but with alot of twin engine heavy fighters in game i almost wonder what teh point is as the lightning is a beauty but gets little love here..

The goal is to model the planes that were active on the Western Front in 1944-45. What players end up doing with them is up to them, of course. I wouldn't take too much stock in internet forum traffic as an indicator of how popular a certain plane is. As for the P-38, there is a great campaign for it called Lightning Strikes, created by @Jaegermeister. ? 4 hours ago, ShamrockOneFive said: Each plane takes time to build. That, and while there were Beaufighters active in the West in 1944-45, they are more known for their action in the Med and the Pacific. Keen players will also recall that a certain Jason Williams built the Beaufighter Mk. 21 for Pacific Fighters. Edited March 6, 2022 by LukeFF 1 1 5

Yeah, I love it... I think that was the only plane I flew in the game for almost a year when it came out. As a ground attack platform I can see why pilots like a twin engine. The Mosquito is going to be a blast too. It's even faster than the Lightning and it was historically used on a lot of the intruder missions deep into occupied Europe during the time that will be covered by BoN. I can't see most people wanting to actually fly those types of missions though due to the length. A few hard core people maybe, but that would be it unfortunately. Intruder and Ranger missions on the Normandy map will be great. We’ll never have a “deep into the continent” map anyway - and no most wouldn’t fly them if we did.
Giggles Posted March 6, 2022 Author Posted March 6, 2022 I think the interest in long ranged missions depends upon the mission. I started the soviet navy pilot one, first was fun, but the second one states 6.5 hours length... just to fly over ocean, the around mountain range to drop a single bomb on an artilery position., the beaufighter had the massive amount of 20mm in it... who wouldnt want that

I don't think I recall that name, but if he came in here and dropped like a Me 410 bonus picture. I would certainly remember him forever ? Also who says the P-38 doesn't get love? I enjoy flying it a lot and like all twin engine fighters in the game it gets underestimated. For the same reason i will enjoy the 410 and Mossie when they're released. People will see them, think they're easy prey and subsequently make mistakes. So I'm looking forward to more expansions, be it MTO or PTO. I'm happy as long as there are more twin engine fighters and bombers. oh.. late war Eastern front expansion next to finish it of? i suggest the He 177 as the German twin engine plane Edited March 6, 2022 by Asgar
Fafnir_6 Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 Hehe...Cheeky, Asgar! I like it. The He177A is just a big twin :P. Fafnir_6

Panzerlang Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 My old man has fond memories of the Mossies in his RAF days, mostly because of the amount of 100 Octane fuel they could frequently liberate from them.

Avimimus Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 I'm honestly not going to be too excited about a B-25 unless we have the Pacific... a strafer with a 75mm cannon though... that'd have some appeal. The Beaufighter would be a good opponent for the Ju-88C-6... but I think LukeFF basically covered it - the Mosquito is iconic and was more active in the theatre and time period modelled.
