This is wierd,  how do i fly the ENTIRE map in a solo flight?

I try, but the game wont let me out of my originating map grid

You can't fly right to the edge of the map because "here there be monsters", as the ancient cartographers used to note.

id just like to fly the WHOLE map, ie the winter moscow map and enjoy the scenery

Nothing is stopping you save that the flyable area (including Moscow) is restricted to the right and there is a demarcation line to show you where the game will turn you around.

OK I won't mess with you like the other guy! @JimTM is the worst!

Il-2 Great Battles is made up of individual maps, each with its own sector (i.e. flyable area) depicted in the map you see.

To fly different maps you have several options:

  • SINGLE MISSION - then look at the top left and change map before selecting aircraft
  • CAREER - then select theater and choose map/period you want to start your career
  • MULTIPLAYER - join a game with the winter date/description
  • Open Mission Editor and create one from scratch.

flyable area doesnt cover the whole map?

its just that the single player system where you select an icon of a single plane or two planes,  etc just keeps me in a set TINY ASS LITTLE AREA for each one selected, never varies.

But the NEW  single player generator gives me territory not covered in the old system.. even though the icons can be a OVERLAPPING on the game screen when i select them.

I am not sure we are all talking about the same thing.   If you were to use the quick mission generator to choose a spitfire taking off from the most Easterly base on the Moscow map then you turned East and flew East (towards Moscow) for a few minutes, the game would tell you to turn around and if you ignore that then it will take control of your aircraft and turn it around to face West.   If you took off and flew West then it would allow you to fly all the way to the West edge of the map (and turn you around a few km short)  I have often started an aircraft already at altitude and pointed it towards the centre of the map in auto-Level then let it run for ages with the time sped up while I tested things like how much speed you lose if you open all the radiators etc.  It lets me fly right across the map.

This happens in every map whether it is an online server, an offline campaign,  a pilot career mission etc.   If you try to fly off the map then it will turn you around before you reach the edge but otherwise you are free to fly the whole map from East to West or North-West corner to South-East corner (apart from the very first or last few km of the map). If you are seeing something else then it sounds like a corrupted game file.  How is it stopping you?   Is it turning you around or are you stopping mid air or exploding?

teh problem i had was say i open up the moscow map, take a solo flight at the topmost  solo flight option and it has me around a city named Kalinin. Th issue was that the kalinin map starts as sections 0213 to 0215 down through 0513 to 0515.  The game was NOT letting me leave those map squares..

But i updated the game to see if it was an outdated file, and it finally let me fly out of that map grid section.

And i finally got to see an abandoned airfield in that kalinin map section..   Before i updated files.. i only saw the runways.. no buildings.  now i get the buildings and fuel tanks that cant be destroyed, but dirt tracks and NO runways
