Mysticpuma Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 (edited) Easier to just add the pictures. Two different aircraft as one has engines with white prop covers. Edited March 2, 2022 by Mysticpuma 2
AndyJWest Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 The USAAF used some wacky paint schemes for old tired bombers used as formation assembly ships. I wonder if this was something similar? Mossies didn't normally engage in formation bombing of course, but there may have been circumstances where it would be useful.
busdriver Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 (edited) 680 Sqn, PR variant based in Italy. High viz markings to alert Allied fighter pilots it wasn’t an Me-210/410. [edit] @Mysticpuma the prop hub color was yellow rather than white. Edited March 2, 2022 by busdriver 3 2

I found the images in a collection of a Crew Chief who served with the 325th Fighter Group, 319th Fighter Squadron "The Checkertail Clan" who served in Lesina, Mondolfo, Foggia and Rimini in Italy so maybe it made a stop at one of their bases. Thanks for the info. cheers, Mysticpuma
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 (edited) The USAF used Mosquitos for photo recon (and maybe some for meteorological duties - I forget) and also used the original British overall PR blue scheme. This is a well preserved example at the USAF Museum, in Dayton. Well worth the visit if you are ever in the area. I have this one in diecast on my desk as well. One of my favorites. I’m hoping we get to fly these as recon is being brought into the BoX series. Edited March 2, 2022 by II/JG17_HerrMurf 2 2

I could have stayed a week and not been bored.
