1CGS BlackSix Posted February 17, 2022 1CGS Posted February 17, 2022 Hi all! Perhaps this information has long been known to many here but for me it has become a complete discovery. I'm currently finishing up a new scripted campaign for BOBP and I needed to set the wind speed near the ground to 9 and 10 m/s for a couple of missions according to the weather station data for these days. Aircraft refused to taxi after landing according to the specified route in the properties of the airfield in these missions, stopped in the middle of the runway, turned off their engines and disappeared. I talked with colleagues and it turned out that there is a limit on the maximum wind speed near the ground after which this script is turned on. Thus, I highly recommend not to use a value above 6 m/s. Some planes can taxi when the wind speed is 7 m/s but it's best not to. You can check this yourself in your missions by setting the wind speed near the ground to 8-9 m/s and look at the landings. 3 1
Jaegermeister Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Yes, I discovered this when making "Lightning Strikes". I had the wind set fairly high and the landing planes would not taxi off the runway. It took me a while to figure out it was the wind speed.
Gambit21 Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Yeah...has been screwed up forever which is why I have no wind in my campaign missions. Further AI can't land with even a slight cross wind which is the other reason I turned wind off.
IckyATLAS Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 I knew of this issue. I use wind and even strong wind, to have interesting take-offs and for the sea effects and ships. But for the landings I leave the AI to their fate as long as they land. Anyway after the landing things are not properly managed by the airfield taxi logic which is not up to the task.
SYN_Vander Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Thanks! I'll make sure there is a limit on windspeed near the ground in my mission generator.
Guest deleted@50488 Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Well, what concerns me the most is that I do not think it should be impossible to taxi a ww2 fighter / bomber under 7ms/s ~14 knot ground winds ... Indeed I to noticed since a long time that IL-2 ground physics / flight dynamics do not deal well with such winds, and I wish something could be done about it to make the simulator more realistic.

Question: When you mean "these days" do you have access to a website that has historic weather data? If so, do you mind sharing?
1CGS BlackSix Posted February 24, 2022 Author 1CGS Posted February 24, 2022 Yes, we used data from a weather station in the Netherlands: https://weerstatistieken.nl/?station=de-bilt&maand=september&jaar=1944 1
SYN_Vander Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 It’s amazing what you can find on the internet. I was able to piece together weather for Western front in April 1918 from English weather reports online.
