imanuthep Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 A little question Julian...those planes are fictionnal or not ? To my knowledge, III.KG51 didn't exist (only Me262 of the I and II.KG51 took part of the Bodenplatte operation) Perhaps you have more information than I have

E69_julian57 Posted February 14, 2022 Author Posted February 14, 2022 Hi @imanuthep The III/KG51 flew the F-8s on the western front for a short period of time along with the KG200. I only have a few black and white photos of them seen from the front so I can't give more detail than that they were experimental JABOS... they soon moved on to the Me-262.
Hien-0_1* Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Historically correct information on the III. KG51: - Source - red: time of existence at the end of the war - green: example of aircraft stock - blue: indication of further existence of the unit after renaming Information on the successor unit: Nachtschlachtgruppe 20 - story http://www.ww2.dk/air/attack/nsgr20.htm - aircraft stock http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/schlacht/bnsgr20.html PS: never equipped with Me262 !!! & III.KG51 not during operation Bodenplate!!! 1
1CGS LukeFF Posted February 14, 2022 1CGS Posted February 14, 2022 III./KG 51 in 1944 is a bit weird, but in general: The old formation was disbanded around the beginning of 1944. I./SKG 10, a nocturnal Fw 190 ground attack unit based in France, was renamed III./KG 51 in the summer of 1944. Around the end of October / early November 1944, it was renamed NSGr. 20. The exact date is a bit hard to pin down, as conflicting dates are given in multiple sources (including the book shown in the above post). 1 1
