tinydbass Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 Sorry if this has been covered before - I've searched but couldn't find anything. I loaded up the Rhineland map in Bodenplatte (bought from Steam) and everything looks good, with plenty of details on the German cities. But when I fly north to the Netherlands, the cities there don't have any buildings. I don't think it's a settings thing (I've tried quite a few of the settings anyway) as the German cities are around the same size, and I've seen YouTube videos of flights over the Netherlands with buildings. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious so if anyone can explain what I'm seeing that would be great. Thanks
Jade_Monkey Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 To make loading times shorter and optimize the game, they spawn buildings within a radius around where the mission is taking place. If you want to explore the entire map, you can change the setting somewhere in startup.cfg, or create your own mission in the editor with all the buildings loaded. 1
[CPT]Crunch Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 It is in the settings, something like 'populate map' and than it allows you to set a numerical distance, 20 Km, 40Km, and unlimited. Took me a while to figure that feature out as well. It's the upper right side on one of the settings menus. 1
tinydbass Posted February 1, 2022 Author Posted February 1, 2022 That's great, I figured it was something intentional like that - it makes perfect sense, thanks!
IckyATLAS Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 The issue on the Rheinland map (and this is indipendent of the settings) is the fact that when you fly and look at a city, turn your head and look again at the city buildings had disappeared and the buildings reappear as you look at the city. The larger the city the slower it fills up with the buildings. This effect is just weird. You do not have this effect on the Kuban map, Stalingrad map or Moscow map. Moscow and its surroundings are a large city with many buildings and you do not have this effect.

The Moscow buildings are much lower-res buildings with much lower-res textures, so it makes sense that they load quicker. As for the other maps - those cities have a lower building density.

Stalingrad and Kuban towns have a much lower building density. They are mainly filled with trees so that it doesn't look like that. The Moscow map is regarding towns, the best Russian map. In my current career on the Stalingrad map the towns are hard to see from distances, the trees are not yet rendered, because of the few tiny houses you see, when you take a closer look.

Yep, I've heard about that as well, but in my case I wasn't seeing buildings at all for some cities because of the setting that @[CPT]Crunch pointed out.

I just went through all the settings and the options for the AQMB and found nothing that resembles "populate map" or gives distance options. I did find distance options in the graphics section but nowhere else. I also wen through the newly released "Operators Manual" for version 4702 and found no mention of this. TIA
[CPT]Crunch Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Settings - game - map scenery distance, set it to unlimited and you get your buildings all over the map.
