Mysticpuma Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 (edited) Just a random picture but wondering if it's possible to work out a rank or anything about this officer? Spoiler Edited February 1, 2022 by SYN_Haashashin Use spoilers if Swastikas are visible.
Monksilver Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 (edited) @Mysticpuma The deaths head on the hat points to him being SS. The collar badges show he is a Gruppenfuhrer which is the equivalent of a lieutenant general. As a senior SS officer we can also work out he was piss poor example of humanity. I wonder if is the person below. Arthur Phleps who reached the next rank, obergruppenfuhrer. He got the Knight's Cross in 1943 which helps dates your picture. Wikipedia has more on him - which is also where I found a list of senior SS officers and so just went down the list to see had that type of moustache and nose. Edited January 31, 2022 by Monksilver 1

Thank you, appreciate the detailed answer. 1 hour ago, cardboard_killer said: His swastika is backwards. Wow, that's a good spot!
Monksilver Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 Swastika is in the fact the right way round in the picture.
Diggun Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 We can work out he would have been played by Richard Burton circa 1978
