VR_Dogfighter Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 This might seem a daft question, but could anyone shed some light on the function/ limitations of the "CREATE SERVER" button at the bottom of the "Choose Dogfight Server" page please? The reason I ask is when I try to create one to play online it doesn't seem to be playable when testing here on a second PC with different web access. If both PCs are sharing the same web access I can connect to the newly created server on the second PC. I'm wondering if the block is caused by a port forwarding issue in my router or a limitation of the create server feature, even though I have the "Available from internet" box ticked. All online help references DServer being needed for online games, so a bit confused?
SAG Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Hello, You have to open ports 28000 to 28100 TCP and 28000 to 28000 UDP on both host and client

Alternatively, you can set up a DServer on your local PC or a remote PC and run it using the instructions in Chapter 11 of the IL-2 Sturmovik Mission Editor and Multiplayer Server Manual. Port forwarding works well for many people but is a nightmare for others for various reasons. This post may help. Otherwise, do a Google search on the forum like so: Site: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/ "port forwarding" <--- or some other search term you want Edited February 16, 2022 by JimTM 1

Client machines do not require port forwarding.

Stonehouse Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Security. Leaving 100 ports open is much bigger risk than 2. 1

Its been a while since, but glad to say I'm now able to get an MP game online after realising I also have to allow the port-forward services though the firewall in the router.

Glad to help you out Nake. Kudos to @Arctu for the valuable post on hosting a server. 1
