Very nice looking video, keep up the good work!

There's not much to cause stutters when there's only 2 planes and a map to render to make an Alpha video, even COD could have managed that, but yes the motion is nice and fluid and believable more importantly, I also liked seeing the DCS style canopy scratches.

After watching this video I do hope that IL-2 BOS will run that smoothly and flawlessly as ROF does on my machine now ...

Good work, folks! I've been looking forward to every Friday update so far and surely keep on doing it in the next future.

Danke, V???

Did you also notice the sound of the wind rushing by the canopy only when the aircraft was in a hard pull?  I guess due to the change of AoA,  I fly Cessnas so I don't pull to many G's can anyone out there confirm that kind of sound?

I agree only two planes flying well above the ground shouldn't put enough stress on a system to cause stutters, but it did happen at times in IL-2. I've had it happen flying alone offline when just doing sightseeing trips.

I think it's a safe bet that BoS will run well with average hardware and be mostly stutter free.  It's a proven engine for Rise of Flight, where people with 5 year old PCs can still enjoy it.

Posted

I was able to enjoy RoF on my old rig a Fx-60 with 4G of DDR400 ram and a Gtx-260 with no problems.. So I would expect no less from BoS.

Posted

I sure hope BoS is not going to use the exact same engine, but an evolution. Even if it comes at a price as far as performance is concerned. Complex flight and damage models need resources, and I don't think RoF is perfect.

Posted

None of these products are perfect.

From what I have read about the DN engine it is robust and just as the IL2 engine was modified for FB and we now have what we have in IL2 .. things that we only dreamed about 7 years ago.. the DN engine I imagine has a similar potential.. Otherwise the devs would not have used it.. They know what they are undertaking.. They also know the community they are dealing with..  I think .. I hope.. that everyone will be more pleased than displeased with the outcome.. Also considering how RoF today is not the same RoF that was released I have high hopes for BoS.

A video a week keeps the updates leet!

thanks for posting the video.

Definitely at this rate, the sequel will eclipse the graphical quality of CLOD.

Keep going!!!

That 109 has more J???

Couldn't have said it better myself, RoF has come along in leaps and bounds since the first beta release. I'm confident that the DN engine can be improved further still.

Even if not everything is possible to implement or activate at the release date, I hope they can prepare the key features or API's (FM, DM, huge numbers of players, weather, etc.), so we got at least on a long term the ultimate WWII simulator...

From what I've experienced, this "air rushing" sound is mainly a factor of airspeed rather than AoA. I obviously can't say for the 109, but when increasing the airspeed for a Loop, Clover-Leaf or whatever the sound-volume of the air flowing past the canopy increases noticeably. Once pulling 4 or 5 g's, I never specifically noticed the sound getting louder. Actually since the airspeed bleeds of quite quickly during those g-loads, especially when maneuvering vertically, it does get quieter.

Now, could the canopy seal of the 109 be affected by higher g-loads and cause the sound we hear in the video? Possibly. Like I said I haven't flown the 109 (unfortunately).

Also possible would be, that the devs tried to recreate sounds, which they encountered, when they got a ride in those Yaks or it was an input from one of the pilots working with the devs.

Sorry for all the guessing on my part.

I probably could have just said:

Personally, I can't confirm this sound as a result of increased g-load or AoA. ;)

The only likely sound from a change of AoA and/or G-load would be from buffeting which is basically the airframe being shaken.

Nice video. I hope the devs can overcome most of the problems from the old IL2 eg. flickering landscapes, LOD plane disappearing, bad clouds, inconsistent ground object visibility. Also, the cockpit looks extremely artificial, I felt like in 2005 again. PLEASE try and do a better job then the folks over at the War Thunder. The 109 model looked very low poly, the lightning is off. Maybe you could work on that some more. Nevertheless, I am glad to see that the individual instruments are readable without the help of speedbar. About the sounds, I think they`re excellent, never mind the comms as long as I can understand what they`re saying and send orders so the AI actually reacts.

I have a question, maybe you can do a 109 close flyby next? I think the 109 is missing her whistle-ish engine sound so far or maybe I am wrong?

They already did and it's got the whistle:

Uh-hm, it's artificial because it's not a live organism. What would you suggest?

Looks good to me.  I'll be in the I-16 though.  Or the '153 if you've got it  ;)

Looking fantastic, more like 1942 than 2005 to me.

Sorry, but it seems like you've never played Rise of Flight?  You should compare your expectations to that sim and not previous Il-2 incarnations.  I can say right now that there is no LoD problem in Rise of Flight.

The game and vids look great.  My only request is that I wish they were posted in a higher resolution.

Dear Developers,

I'm now on summer vacation.

Drivning the kids all over the country (900km rides).

I really need a demo/beta/younameit for recreation arriving back home.

I love you.

well I couldn't wait...so I bought CloD on sale through Steam...no wonder its so hated

WTF about simple Anti Aliasing was so hard for them???  there's NO excuse

running around trying to plug in 3rd party FSAA or CSAA or MSAA or WTFA injectors..just to try to make it look a speck less utterly craptacular is just....there are no words.

$12.00 just thrown into a firepit - NO -  those graphics would have been smooth

NO.......

If you are thinking like I was...oh I cant wait for BoS - these vids and screenies are making me crazy - CloDs on sale - how bad could it be?... stuff that - KLOD = CRAP

I am flying Spads along the Cliffs in RoF on the Channel Map instead - Im feeling much better now...

Yes, I haven`t played it, but I know about the engine, that is why I hope we`ll get through without the technical problems mostly.

Pointless, needlessly incendiary and thoroughly ignorant too.  I'm surprised and disappointed.  Recent KLOD = CRAP online with some of my crap buddies too;

CLoD has big problems.  It's biggest one being it's abandonment by the official developer. Luckily, some very talented volunteers have taken it on and are busy turning Oleg's vision into a reality.  They deserve our thanks and support.

I am absolutely looking forward to the release of BoS and I adore RoF but, you know,  DN engine has some big problems too.  All these updates we've been having are fine and dandy and I'm sure it'll look and sound and 'feel' fantastic.    Now tell me about the ground war and show me the mission editor.

DON'T FEED IT AND IT WON'T GROW.......

Trolling here, isn't it?

These videos are Alpha and they still have time to improve the game all around. What we have seen here after few months of devolpment is really promising if not exciting, landscape first of all.......finally a very good looking landscape.

CLoD was great at generating screen shots and vids.  But unfortunately, that was about all.

But wasn't Arthur just making the point about how much fun he was having online with his buddies.....so it's obviously good for that too

These kinda posts are kinda moot arent they?  CloD after all has been cancelled and doing these things just deepens the divide and reveals what side of the divide you are on.  I have some real great screenies from CloD too, but I have had my fill of CtD's, stutters and horrible community members to last a lifetime.  Lets move on Shall we?

Right I understand that part , so what is the noise Im hearing when the aircraft is in a tight turn?  Its definately a buffeting type sound, but I dont think the aircraft is nearing a stall

DD_bongodriver

Your stall speed increases with 'g', in a tight turn you are pulling 'g' therefore your aircraft will stall at a higher speed, the higher the 'g' the higher the stall speed, the tighter the turn the higher the 'g'......so how do you know you are not nearing a stall?

I'm glad that someone figured out how to decompile the CLOD source code/had it leaked to them. I'm sure they'll have fun.

But CLOD as a game has no future. Mods can only carry the title so far, and as we've seen in 1946 are incredibly divisive. 3 different 16GB+ downloads that aren't compatible with each other. Yeahhh, no thanks.

Maybe after realizing how bad CLOD is, Heywood won't be so antagonistic to those of us urging caution regarding pre-orders of this upcoming title.

is there a reason you won't try CLOD with TF's modifications?......seems daft to me that folks who complained so much about CLOD's unplayability and own the game aren't capitalising on a freely available fix.
