Dog Fight Mission With Brand New Concept (I believe...)

Salute,

I have decided to make my most recent Tank Dogfight mission available to the community to try. The attached is a mission that I recently put together for my squad, The DangerDogz (www.dangerdogz.com) and is typical of the type of missions we run.

I believe that this mission is unique (and more than happy to eat humble pie and tip my cap in their direction if anyone else has already done this) because of the concept it uses with Repair, Refuel and Rearm.

The scenario for this mission is a multiplayer (ie. a squad) v AI dogfight map. (Also highly recommend multi-crew of the tanks, if you have not tried it, it does add a whole new concept to the game). You have a number of objectives to achieve by way of capturing towns and key road intersections and an airfield.

As you progress through the mission and complete each milestone, a convoy, made up of a Commanders Armored car, 2 lorries representing mechanics and ammo, an ambulance and fuel truck will proceed to join up with your location and thus enabling you to rearm and repair etc. They will, upon their arrival also trigger a re-spawn point.

If you are waiting for the trucks to arrive, as they pass you, you will see the Repair icons in the HUD light up and go out as they both come into and go out of range.

There is only 1 convoy. If they get taken out you loose both the re-spawn points and the RRR functionality.

What I have tried to replicate is the tactic of an advancing army needing to be supplied. You could go charging ahead but then if you get killed you will have to go a long way back to the last spawn point, or those of you who like to try and keep the same tank in a mission and not throw your life away, it gives the opportunity to re supply/repair before moving on.

The convoy will move into position once you have fired a flair in the towns (decision: do you make sure the area is safe first or get them moving up to you and then clear out the enemy?) or when you arrive at a point having successfully cleared your path. Once they have arrived at the meeting point they will wait there until you call them on again.

My squad played this on Saturday and they seemed to really like the extra dimension this scenario brought to the mission.

It is played as the player being German and having unlimited access to Panzer 3-m's, Panzer 4's and the AAA truck and is on the Lapino Summer map.

I strongly recommend it is played WITH NO object icons and should take you approximately two and a half hours to complete with 4 or more units.

Please let me know you thoughts and if you play it what you thought of it.

Good hunting.

As a DangerDog that has had a go at this mission I will endorse it wholeheartedly....it works very well and adds different perspectives to an online, multicrewed mission. The supply and respawn aspect with the convoy supports the progress of the crewed tanks faultlessly - the convoy even tells you when it is under attack when out of sight of the crewed tanks!

The addition of a supporting anti-aircraft unit is another great addition...it is able to provide air cover and assist against light targets. It doesn't cope when caught where it shouldn't really be so the operator has to be careful with it's positioning....

Probably a dumb question but is your mission only playable in MP?

It is a Dog Fight map designed for my squad, so yes it is designed for multi player due to number of AI enemy etc.

I just had an opportunity to test this and I’m extremely impressed.  First, I commend your “clean” mission editor structure.  You just don’t see a lot of mission builders doing this kind of thing and it helps when following your design intent.  Thank You.  Second, everything worked to perfection and as described - and I was running it by myself.  This “concept” has many possibilities.  Your mission has players on one side; double it for an opposing side; either opposing objectives or completely different objectives.  Spread this to different maps and different scenarios….the mind wanders with possibilities.

GOOD JOB!

@352ndOscar Salute

Thank you sir for those kind words.

You did well to run it on your own. How many times did you get killed :)

I am also of a mind to introduce scenarios to this sim that require some thought, some tactics etc.

Cheers

@Frinik22

Salute,

As per the above post by 352ndOscar, you could try running it on your own, it does have unlimited lives.

We will not be discussing that, thank you!  Needless to say, while it can be done, it is a whole lot better with max difficulty and some friends along for the ride…….
I believe the 352nd will be running it tomorrow nite….

As it is a dogfight map, you will need to create your own server in order to run it, which is dead easy and is a standard in game function if you have not done it before.

Any questions just ask.

The 352nd ran this last night. We got to the point of approaching the airfield before we all got blown up. The only comment I can make other than the concept of a following supply column being a fantastic idea is that we would like it to be a shorter time to rearm and refuel and also make the radius of the supply trucks that do that a bit greater. We didn’t know they had to be within 100 meters of the trucks. We didn’t know that it wouldn’t start to rearm or refuel before 30 seconds. Therefore some of us just respawned at the new tank spawn point rather than either waiting or moving closer.
I’ll be adjusting both the time and distance and we’ll be trying it again Sunday.
But it’s a great great mission. ~S~ DD_Friar for making such a mission.

Hi, sorry but can you explain to me how multiplayer missions are installed, and if possible how to play, join a multiplayer game, because I never did it and I don't know how to do it right! Thanks and congratulations

Just place the mission files in data/Multiplayer/Dogfight/ folder and when in the game select Multiplayer/Create server and choose the mission from the left portion of the screen, highlight it and move it into rotation (it goes to the right side of the screen lists) highlight it there and that’s it.
