Weegie Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 I was trying to setup a DServer but having problems and wondered if anybody could help First I'm on a private network and can get the server to work for me if I use my local IP address, 192.**.**.**.**, but others can't join If I put in my Network IPv4 address 81.***.***.*** and tick the External box the mission doesn't load, I suspect that the server isn't being seen, or it's something to do with me trying to acess the computer from within the network but the IP is the Network address and not a local machine address I've got the Ports 28000 and 28100 forwarded to the relevant computer in the network and tried the connection with the Windows firewall disabled with no joy This is a Cooperative mission, and the Cooperative check box is selected, I've no idea if that has any relevance or not Is it possible to set up a DServer from inside your network, acess it and still allow others to connect externally? My only experience is setting up a server in DCS but there external players outside my network use the IPv4 address and I use the local IP, but you can't do that in IL2 AFAIK. Just
DD_FT- Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 For sure this is possible. I've got it setup that way. In the DServer SDS file settings I have the box 'external' checked, but left the IP address blank. Like this: Doublecheck the port forwarding on the router. 28101 TCP 28101 TCP & UDP (These Port \numbers are used to be corresponding with the ports used in the example DServer settings above, you should be using 28100.) And make really sure the local address 192.*.*.* of the actual host computer still is correct, it may have changed, depending on the setup of your router regarding DHCP. Good Luck! 2
Weegie Posted January 7, 2022 Author Posted January 7, 2022 Thanks for that @DD_FT- much appreciated I'll get onto that and make the changes suggested & report back, interesting you have the External box checked but no IP inserted, I'd have never have thought of that ? I know about the dynamic adressing that can change the local IPs of the computers, I've been caught that way before. 1
Weegie Posted January 8, 2022 Author Posted January 8, 2022 I now have the server running, the only other thing I did over and above you suggestions @DD_FT- was to put the local server IP address in the Server Info, SRS Comm URL box. It's loading the mission and I can acess the server from my inside my network. Hopefully my buddy will try it externally from outside the Network today, but so far it's looking good I'll drop another post when I find out if my buddy can connect from outside the network just to close this out Many Thanks 1
DD_FT- Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 Did a bit more testing, for me it works with either the internal IP in (192.*.*.*) or leaving it empty, but I have not tested access from the Internet ie. external client. It for sure does not work when I put in my external IP address (the 81.*.*.*) in your case. (Additional info: The DServer is running on a different PC than the one I run the game itself on...) 1
Weegie Posted January 8, 2022 Author Posted January 8, 2022 (edited) That's exactly what I discovered too @DD_FT- putting my local address into the Server IP would allow me to communicate, as I recall I had not checked the External box, however my buddy said he could not access the server (so outside clients could not connect). Putting in my Global/IPv4 address did not work the mission would not even load. I suspect that the IL2 server that communicates with the Dserver could not establish comms. I'm in the same position running the game from a different machine to the server but both within the same network. So now just waiting to see if an external client can access the server from the Internet. Once again thanks for help. Edited January 8, 2022 by Weegie
DD_FT- Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 I could test that! What's the server name? Is it mods enabled? 1
Weegie Posted January 8, 2022 Author Posted January 8, 2022 (edited) That's Ok @DD_FT- thanks for the offer very kind of you (it was mods enabled I think) but no need I just came back in and my buddy has mailed me to say he can get onto the server from outside my network and I can access it from inside my network, so I'm in business Just to sum up External Box: checked Server IP box: blank Server Info, SRS Comm URL box: Local IP entered (192.**.**.**.**) And of course the ports forwarded on the Router that you pointed out in the second post 28100: TCP 28000: TCP & UDP Very kind of you to offer and also to take the time Need to find some interesting Missions now, at the moment my mission building skills are zero. Nothing to hardcore yet as I get shot down more often that not ? Edited January 8, 2022 by Weegie 1
DD_FT- Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 Good show, and thanks for reporting the settings that work! 1

DD_FT- Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 And also, check out this: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/forum/129-easy-mission-generator-by-vander/ Easy mission generator, you can generate missions quickly, to your liking. Lots of options in there. So it's easy to operate, but it creates lots of varied missions. 1 1
