When Pat added the RCAF to PWCG I had promised to provide RCAF data, and it has been done for some time, however I wanted to provide it complete and I have not got the aces working yet or all the information completed.

So, for now I have 143 (RCAF) Wing consisting of 438, 439 and 440 Squadrons flying the Typoon Ib and127 (RCAF) Wing, consisting of 403,  416 and 443 Squadrons flying the Spitfire Mk IX. Both wings were part of No. 83 (RCAF) Group, 2nd Tactical Air Force.  All squadrons are at the historical airfields they operated from and move on the dates that they moved historically.  Some small concessions have been made for game-play:

  1. Start Date: All squadrons have a start date of 1 Sep 44. Having a historic date of say 9 Sep 44 would mean that a player would need to start a campaign on 1 Oct 44 for the squadrons to be available since you can not choose a mid month start date for a campaign.
  2. 127 Wing starts on the map at the closest French airfield I could find.  In reality they were further east on 1 Sep 44. This means for a few days at the beginning of the campaign players have a longer haul to get to the action.
  3. When a historical airfield is not on the map I chose the closest airfield that was available. This happens to 143 Wing for a few days in the middle of the campaign.
  4. By the end of the campaign both wings are off the map to the west in Germany so the last airfields they are have in the file are the ones still on the map that made sense.  I have not play-tested the end of the war so there may be problems with the front lines.
  5. Squadrons were sent to Gun Camps in England to learn new techniques or new weapon systems during the war, all six squadrons spent about two weeks in these notably Warmwell Camp for the Spitfire squadrons to qualify with the new rockets for ground attack as their role changed from air to air to ground attack once the Luftwaffe threat was reduced.  For the sake of game-play and to make it work the squadrons just continue as if this had not occurred.

The squadrons will move around the map as a wing, sometimes one squadron moved up to a week ahead of the other squadrons

UPDATE: A long time coming, No. 126 (RCAF) Wing added.  No. 39 Recce Wing will be next, full of Mosquito and Spitfire XIV squadrons and I am still working on adding the RCAF aces. I will update for these and add No. 125 (RAF) Wing & No. 144 (RCAF) Wing once the Normandy map is out.

@PatrickAWlson feel free to add these to your excellent campaign package.

Installation

Place the attached files in your L:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\PWCGBoS\BoSData\Input\Squadron folder. *

*Note that this will overwrite the default 403 squadron file included by Pat. If you do not wish to overwrite this file, 403 Squadron will not follow the rest of the Wing to its historical locations.

Salute and thank you very much for your research and adding these important RCAF units in the 2nd TAF.  The files downloaded and installed fine.  I've added a Number 440 Squadron RCAF pilot to an existing PWCG Typhoon campaign.  Just a small, very minor note/request.  According to the intelligence report and map the callsign for Number 440 Squadron is "Finch".  But in all the radio calls the pilots only indicate their flight position number.  Do you think there might be any chance of getting the callsign added for radio calls?  Not a big deal.  Otherwise everything's great.

Not sure, I will have to look into it to see if it is possible.  I will update if I can.  Glad you are enjoying the extra squadrons, hopefully I can add the aces in the next couple of weeks then work on 144 Wing.

Maybe this will get more folks in on the Ace of Aces Beurling challenge. Should spice up my ongoing campaign (back on after a break where I redid my throttle console, Buerling Attempt VI has 7 missions and 11 kills so far...)

No. 126 (RCAF) Wing for your enjoyment.  I have not been flying for the last six months or so hence the delay.  Installation instructions same as above with some caveats.

No. 126 (RCAF) Wing was a Spitfire Wing, all three squadrons were quite experienced by the time they arrived in NW Europe and had been flying Spitfires since 1941.  No. 401 Squadron was the only foreign squadron to participate in the Battle of Britian and was originally No. 1 Squadron which caused confusion with No. 1 Squadron and was latter renamed No. 401 when the remainder of the RCAF squadrons began to arrive.

By the way, if you want to fix the callsigns, the reason "Finch" doesn't work is that in the game files, that's exclusive to German and Russian voices. If you want the RCAF planes to use a callsign, you can find the British ones in \data\GUI\DefaultCallsigns.eng - they're split out there. Just replace "Finch" with whatever British callsign you want - unfortunately the voices will have British accents, but you'd have the flights saying their callsigns.

Note: You will need to change the callsign in the squadron JSON file, not the DefaultCallsigns.eng file - that's just a reference for what faction uses what callsign.

Yes. Are you encountering trouble with it?

No…I just wanted to make sure before trying it. Thanks for your effort!

Added it to PWCG.  Awesome addition, as a Canadian, I totally love the attention you paid to the squadrons!
