The Bf109F-2 in game has a DB601N engine which required C3 fuel as well.

Also K4 when DB 605DC chosen?

Bf-109K4 with DB-605DB and DC could be used with both type of fuel B4 or C3, with a quick field tune of manifold pressure with a screwdriver. ...but this fuel selection is not available in game unlike P-51,Spitfire , etc. that they have 150 oc fuel option.

The DC mod raises the boost to 1.98 ata, simulating the use of C3 + MW50 vs. the DB’s 1.8 ata with B4 + MW50.  It works exactly the same as choosing 150 octane fuel on the Allied birds - select engine mod, get higher boost.

So C3 is modeled for every 190A, the 109F2, and the 109K4 when using the DC mod.

The micro-stutters when some German aircraft boost (when a puff of smoke comes from the exhaust) seem to have become worse since the latest update - sometimes they are more like micro-freezes - Is there a fix for this or is it something the Devs will have to address?

P-51D-15 spinning propeller image has a correct number of blades;

When the spinning prop animation is slowed down on the D model, it still looks like a three bladed prop. I'm seeing this with both default and custom skins.

The whole concept of artificial engine timers to reflect service manual 'operating limits' is anti-simulation.  Having a 'no engine damage' option would be okay, but I'd rather see the devs just give up on this at some point -- leave in actual engine breaking, like overreving and hard limits on things like WEP, but the stuff where it's strictly done to improve the life of the engine is way beyond the level of simulation most people are playing.  If a historical squad wants to limit their players in a scenario that's one thing, but I don't see 'but then everyone will fly around at full power' as a reason to instill a supposedly historical simulation element on gameplay that is already totally a-historical.  I'd rather have random failures as an option than this, to simulate the same general 'old engines that are pushed too long tend to break.'

It's not even an issue of making to p40 more 'competitive' either imo; the p40 does pretty well as is when flown right.  It just seems like the big 'limiting factor' with pushing the engine too hard should be either overheating or fuel consumption, not engine wear that magically destroys your engine because you went over some arbitrary time limit at a certain speed according to a suggestions sheet to improve engine life.

Fun fact, the Germans never used the full potential of the C3 fuel, cause it would dilute the engine oil over time (well that’s the most likely cause)

Ever since I installed this update there's been something odd about my visuals (I only play in VR). It feels like I'm a little far-sighted. I can still see, but the focal length seems slightly off.

My other VR games (MSFS and Pavlov) are fine. The issue seems confined to Il-2.

Can anyone direct me to a resource to address this? TIA.

If I remember well the old clouds use to drift with the wind and related to windspeed.

The new ones seem completely fixed whatever the wind speed that is not very realistic.

I hope this changes in the future and that the cloud drifting will again be possible.

I was a little quick for this comment and was tricked on this probably because of the wrong axis of view type of clouds and the slow speed. Should have checked better. Clouds do move with the wind. Devs did a very good job.

Indeed they do.  I can sit on the field at Taman on the Kuban and watch a rain squall slowly pass by.

I was taking off in a Me-110 when I was hit by a tornado which spun me like a top.  Come to think of it, it might have been the lack of rudder pedals.

I have the wind set pretty slow on that mission, so the movement is pretty subtle, but move it does.  At server start we usually get off the ground in dry conditions, fly out through some squalls over the Kerch Strait, attack a shipping convoy, come back and land.  Then we reconfigure aircraft for air to air re spawn and while waiting to taxi, rain will start hitting our goggles.

It's amazing.

I'll try to get a screenshot later.

I have been re-flying a Spitfire campaign in Kuban just to see how different it is, everything moves that is for sure, and the clouds:

We had to climb up through that beastly thing behind me.:drinks:

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

It took a while for me to fully appreciate the new clouds.

I flown some career with very dense weather lately, just astonishing.

I think visibility is change to more realistic too, inside a cloud I mean. I might be wrong.

I’m hoping this is the case for me as well. I still haven’t gotten used to them. I liked the “particulate” based clouds in Bodenplatte. New clouds, seem, I don’t know, more of a one-piece, all connected structure somehow.

Visually (and I can’t stress that enough, only visually), they don’t give me the feeling of “dense mist, all clumped closely”. It’s more of a “aah, here’s a piece of cotton, the same density and interconnectivity.”

I know I’m in the extreme minority in this.

Hello, I'm considering getting a triple screen (or curved ultrawide) setup like you and I really want it to work properly with IL2 but I read on previous threads that there is no proper support of multi-projection rendering in this game (as explained here by Nvidia).

How do you deal with the stretching and UI position? Thank you!

Hi, I deal with the side monitors as peripheral only. The stretch makes spotting on the sides better but my honest opinion is this game is worthless for triples. It adds to the speed sensation and peripheral view but thats about it. I'm thinkin going big single or VR.

I decided against VR, especially being new to the game. I'm always fumbling for the proper controls and constantly fine tuning my settings.

I've watched several videos and seen the down and upsides to VR. Maybe someday. Another 1large.

I went with the 49" widescreen. I love it. It's pretty immersive (with Track IR), although less than VR. But I can see the keyboard; see the button I'm pushing if necessary. And on those loooong bomber escort missions I can check my text messages, email, scores, breaking news, have a drink, etc.

and then you try VR once and you never go back…. There’s no video on internet that can explain how it feels to be “in” the plane. I cannot imagine doing sims without VR anymore

I got VR but I prefer using a monitor at the moment for il2. That said I do have a 1st generation OR, so maybe one day I'll get a more modern set when I upgrade my PC. I do enjoy VR in il2, it's very well optimised, it's just I think you're right in saying that VR involves some compromises, and if those are important to you then it's a "maybe one day" thing. Depending on your personal priorities and preferences, of course.

I have a Reverb G2 and will not fly without it. But each to their own.

I have experienced the ups and downs of the VR setup and lived through the frustrations.

- I now know where the mouse is.
- I now know where the important buttons on the keyboard are and this can be improved by sticking little lumps and shapes on certain reference point keys. Think of it as a type of brail and you get the hang of it reasonably quick. Plus I use a Logitech G110 with an extra 12 x 3 programmable keys. I am in the process of building a usb switch and dial box.
AND I know exactly how far to the right my drink is. Although with the headset on, I have to tilt my head a bit further back to finish the drink. :drinks:

But as I say. Each to their own.

Cheers.

Great job on the Gallant Green campaign, @Jaegermeister. :salute: That last mission was especially a lot of fun.

Finished Gallant Green, both new WW1 Scripted Campaigns completed ?

Really makes hungry for more WW1 missions and can’t wait FC2 with career mode?

Some Bomber/Fighter Bomber Missions/ campaigns/ scripted campaigns would be really nice with planes like Halberstadt, Airco, Breguet, Handley Page and Gotha in the future ?

I dunno. I like it , but its such a hassle to get going, and cables dragging everywhere. TrackiR still feels like the sweetspot (I have both). Besides, as cool as VR is, its nothing like playing on a 5K display.

Did you try a good VR setup (e.g. Reverb G2) with a proper hardware and seat/rig?

yes, I have a Reverb G2. I think its a hassle to use and the cables are heavy and in the way. Windows does a terrible job handling VR too. once its all going the experience is good, but I can't just hop in for casual play, its an ordeal that's usually not worth it.

News on 4.702 update, full text

You can ask new questions in this thread

You should maybe fix how utterly pathetic the pilots fragility is.

hard landings and belly landings should not be insta-killing pilots. This has been an issue for months now and you have yet to fix the issue.

Honestly I did so many belly landings in the last couple weeks,  not one death. Learn to fly

The impact was violent, the chances of dying are not zero

There are tons of examples of real pilots walking away from much worse landings than that. There's a thread on the forum with dozens of actual examples of this, with photos pilot accounts etc.

Currently, landings are in no way comparable to real world events, at all.

Landings and take offs are super easy in game, at least this punish sloppy flying.
