From tank crew perspective, the atmospherics and the new "torching" effects of a vehicle burning are really fantastic. With a couple choice mods on top, the overall feel getting more "real" and "atmospheric" all the time.. well done!

Was able to spend a few minutes with the P-51B and She seems to handle as well as she looks which is amazing.

Now I respect the Russian planes, I Love my Rata and I appreciate the 109s and Fws, but if you don't think this Pony is Sexy then you may need to seek professional help. I can't imagine all of the hours worked in the last '2 weeks', not to mention the previous months, to get this Beautiful P51B ready to include into this update. I have been waiting for this kite for quite some time so I just want to say Thank You to the Team and to Jason for pushing hard to make this happen right before the end of the year. I hope you all can take a little time and relax and celebrate the New Year before putting your noses back to the grindstone to finish out the remaining planes, cant wait for the Arado AR 234 Blitz, and the Normandy map. More Exciting times are coming soon to TGBS . Here are a couple of pics from my first flight in this Sexy Beast with the Malcom hood. Gotta love it and the new clouds.

Wonderful plane came before 2022.

My favorite A/C of WW2. ?

Is there will be more default skins or in the future some custom skins will be in default folder ?

In some MP servers you don't choose custom's skins.

Not poking or arguing, but just want to understand what is so special about P-51B as so many seem to be almost as thrilled? Its looks, performance, historical value, personal affinity?

These new american models, are absolutely stunning! I would like to see a Gustav or an Anton updated to this standard, just to see how it would be today.

All of the above, really - this was the plane which could finally escort the heavy bombers all the way to Berlin and back, and many of the most famous American aces in Europe made their name in this plane. And, it's a P-51, which is reason enough to like it. ?

+1 early purchase of the C-47 as appreciation for all your good work fellas. The 51B, the FC campaigns and various improvements, right up to New Year. And Oyster Kai, Jaegermeister and Martin Catney - thank you for applying your amazing artistic skills to this sim.  ?

If so, you can probably create two planes... One will be named for example P-51B/C and have only standart canopy, secon will be named Mustang Mk.III and will have only Malcolm hood. As a bonus, people will be happy to have one more plane for free:-D

Just to say congrats to the team, I had a blast last night running around in the new 51, and the new fire effects are very cool! What a way to end the year on a high!

Thanks to have released earlier than I thought. Have a nice break for the upcoming New Year eve and maybe  "holidays".

Superb work, magnificent skins. I also appreciated the visual improvements of effects interacting with clouds.

I did not expect the drop tanks to come as they should come probably for all planes that had them at once if possible and this is a big big piece of work.

 

I am very happy about all efforts related to the visual quality. Maybe the new technology will also help improve the distance enormous halo effect on the wingtip lights of the plane.

On that visual perfection topic the skins of the bombs are not realistic. The bombs are brand new with immaculate pristine fresh paint.

Unfortunately we cannot skin them. So maybe you should have something more scratched and bruised. The bombs through transport, by ship, trucks, handling etc. until they reached the airfield where they would be loaded they had already a good deal of scratches, small dents, and the paint was already well used and lost its initial gloss.

It surely must be easier to do than skin in 4K a new or existing 2K skin. This is for a future cherry on the cake that tastes already excellent. ?

I am really liking this B5. More than the D15. I can't wait for the template to make my own skins. Just be aware that the tactical codes depend on what nation skin you select when you make your initial selection in the quick mission screen. If you select a British skin first, then the US tactical codes will not be available in the hangar screen.

What I'm afraid that we would see is that vocal minority would be moaning again like "Lazy dev's, they publish 2 planes with negligible difference".

I however agree with you that Mustang III as a separate plane with different movement limits and Malcolm hood would be the best solution here.

To Jason and The Moscow Team - Heroes All !

 

                                                                                 Many waited eagerly for this early Pony , myself included , loved this plane since around the IL2 1946                                                                                       days and the present  edition is something else.

                                                                                 2D excellent , but the VR experience in the P51 B is quite something.

                                                                                Change no 19 , Fire Effects upgrade to Engine and Fuel Tank damage is welcome , shortened fire plume                                                                                    is  far more  realistic .                                                                                                                                                                                                                             The IL2 GB simulation ,  from what it offers and others don't ,  from a neutral standpoint is unrivalled on                                                                                      the market, in the beginning  the simulation in early release was potential of course rather than proof of                                                                                    concept , now it has reached the stage , and has  for a period of time now got to the wow category                                                                                          2022 Honestly cannot wait for what's  coming.

@-332FG-drewm3i-VR that advice should not have anything to do with the tracks. Sometimes tracks do work after patch, sometimes they don't and sometimes they work partially. With the patch before this, everything seemed fine until I saw my bomber pilots sitting on top of the canopies. If you're making movies, it's a Russian Roulette with every patch...unless someone has better knowledge?

Thanks for the Flying Circus campaigns, looking forward to those! 

Also looking forward to taking the new P-51 out for a spin.  

 

Got excited when I saw this:

 

"20. Fixed misalignment of machine gun ..."

 

But alas it wasn't for the SE5a. 

 

I know the reason given for the incorrect gun angles is because the AI can't aim if the guns don't fire along the flight axis (or at least I think that was the reason) but couldn't we perhaps have a different version from the AI that has correct gun angles, it bugged me back in RoF and now with FC in VR it really looks bad.

 

I think that would be a better solution than just giving us a plane specifically changed for AI to fly. 

(I know the autopilot wouldn't be able to fight in it but who uses the autopilot for combat?)

                   Thoughts of mine now turn to the potential paint jobs coming for the P51B. 

                   The P51D got the from here to eternity treatment in numbers and quality.

With the continuing improvements to the tactical code system, it would appear that future (hypothetical of course) campaigns will not need custom skins any more. One base skin will take care of it and if it's already included, it can all be assigned in the mission editor.

You should have Sky lettering if you chose an RAF skin prior to generating the mission, same way pilot language is set.

It's actually  or_render_eye = 1, they should definitely update the notes to make it less confusing.

Love the P-51B!!!!

 

EDIT: Some comments though: As someone mentioned, the "whistle" should not be there. It is missing the blast tube causing that whistle.

@Gavrick I stand corrected. :salute:

 

 

As a second comment I have is on, the head movement in the Malcolm hood. It should be larger. Right now, it seems head movement is the same in both the birdcage and the Malcolm:

In the Malcolm hood, I should be able to see almost the exhaust stacks when leaning to the side for the simple reason that you can tilt the head to the side and look forward, as opposed to the flush birdcage canopies, you don't hit your head on the glass doing so. In the real aircraft this makes a lot of difference when twisting your neck looking back.

Exactly,  although I think a greater selection of default skins would be useful in the future. For example some of the Luftwaffe planes still don't have western front default skins, only the standard eastern front skins with yellow theater markings. Also some more camo variants would be nice.
