New install... won't stop downloading???

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Clean install on new system, no previous IL2 files.

Sturmovik installer says 35.12 GB total, steam page says 55 GB required (my copy is NOT steam BTW...) but the download bar was full long ago and it keeps downloading, downloading, downloading, and total download is now over 62 GB and still counting. WTF???

EDIT: stopped this first downloader/installer, then clicked the IL2 desktop icon that was made, and running it as admin, and now this 'installer' says 26.86 GB total...

Has this installed 65+ GB of files somewhere??? If anyone knows where these 'temp' files D/L to, please let me know, I'll poke around in win temp folders.  Hopefully this installer hasn't bloated out of control...   One would think getting the installer correct would be a priority...

EDIT2: No, this 'second' install also started bloating above the total size stated in the D/L bar so I stopped it as well.  I had 400 GB of free space on my SSD, and after uninstalling (using the IL2 uninstall.exe) the SSD has 397 GB of free space.  This is ridiculous, good luck 1C... :C

I am having the same thing happening as well. This is the 3rd day trying to get it installed found nothing anywhere to help. I was hoping this thread would have the the solution.

Add me to the list as well. Tried to do a full install last night - launched the installer and walked away. Came back later with over 190gb/35gb downloaded.

Stopped, uninstalled the launcher, and tried again - now I'm at 56gb/35gb and still going.

Looked but could not find a location on my drive where that much new data had bee stored, it doesn't seem to be writing the files its downloading to disk (?)

Gonna stop and wait for a fix announcement before I bother to try again.

Do you guys all use the most recent game installer, which you can download here?

I ask this because, I purchased IL2GB for my nephew and I downloaded the actual installer last week.

I downloaded/installed the game without any issue.

Ummm, yeah, why would I 'archive' an old version of the installer and then try to use it days or weeks later?  Just saying, not new to PC gaming or troubleshooting...

Yes, the installer was D/L this morning.  IT AIN'T WORKING at least for the rest of us in thread, and at worst is just bloat.

This have to do with the torrent method of install maybe.

Uhm - why so unfriendly and aggressive??? Only tried to help - and with my 30 years of 2nd/3rd level support and engineering experience,

you can't imagine how many morons I encountered.

Btw. as far as I know, the torrent method or seeding option is not available anymore...

If you want to be 100% sure, then open your "startup.cfg" file located in the data forlder of your game's main directory and have a look at

the text block:

[KEY = updater]
    language = "ger"
    locales = "rus,eng,ger,spa,fra,pol"
    seed = 0
[END]

Here you can set the parameter seed to 0, so you can make sure the updater will not seed.

I can confirm that I downloaded the installer from this site last night, and after that failed I uninstalled and re-downloaded this morning.

Yes installer was from their site. It finally installed while I was at church. So I don't know what happened that was different from the other times I'd tried this weekend.

Maybe you received the benediction for the installation because you were actually at church... ?

Ok so just for laughs I decided to try again.

Downloaded the installer, fired it up.

Once again, it went past the indicated download size. So I quit it it.

Then on a whim, I launched it again.

Believe it or not, it worked this time!

So give that a try if you haven't been able to make it work. I'm curious to see if I was just lucky or what!

Had to reformat my hard drive for a separate issue, not an issue there, all other games/sims work perfectly. But when I tried to download IL2, I've had the same issue. Over and Over it won't work. Just won't stop downloading, way past the required download size. Strange.

I don't get it. 42 gb out of 35 gb downloaded.... huh?

Now 90.19/35.12. strange

In the end, I let it go all night, I wake up to a "failed to update" notification. If anyone could help, or maybe 1c could chime in it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok Mine is up and running!

I read the install instructions for the first time in 20 yrs.

I turned off my anti virus. Then I uninstalled and deleted the Il2 install Zip.

Then I used an old install program (lucky to have not deleted it) that was 35gb not the 26Gb the one on this site is.

loaded faster and works.

I hope this helps. If you need the 35gb install and know a way I can get it to you I'd be glad to help.

S!~ and good hunting

Otto

p.s the install I used was from 5/21

Just FYI, I downloaded/installed the game today without any issue.

I know how frustrating it can be when things dont work as they should. Wishing everyone success sooner rather than later.

Otto Matix, Dude thanks! It worked. I turned off all of my anti-virus and attempted to re-download. Worked like a champ! Thanks so much. Downloaded and siming again.

I'm also having this issue. Tried to update but the installer went on forever. Uninstalled IL2 thinking that would fix the issue, but the installer went to 100GB before I stopped it. I'm attaching my update.log file. How do I fix this issue?

Same thing happened to me. Update said it was going to be 35gb it ended up downloading 290+gb and yet update failed. I did it again thinking there is no way it could actually be downloading that much, the update file was only 9.8 gb on my computer. So I did a fresh install and left it over night it still failed. Then I got a text from my ISP saying I had exceeded my data usage. You really need to fix this I have never used over 760 gb per month till now when in the first week of January I have amassed 1.26 TB.

I have stopped trying to update game and will not attempt till next month. As I get charged $10 for every 50GB over my 1.2 TB. Thankfully it tops out at $100.

Had the same issue.

Each time the download exceeded the target size, I quit the installation and started over. Probably took five or six tries, but it finally installed -- doesn't help with your data limits, though.

Prior to the successful download, I submitted a trouble ticket with the the Support Team. They replied with the following response:

Dear player,

In your case there are 2 options.
1.-delete the contents of the folder "[Game folder] updates
-start the game using the shortcut on the desktop or file launcher.exe from the [Game folder]\bingame
After that you should start the process of updating the game.
Wait for the process to update the game and run the game.

2.-remove all game files
-Download the installer from the tab "Download" in your profile on our website
-install the game
-start the game using the shortcut on the desktop or file launcher.exe from the [Game folder]\bingame
After that you should start the process of updating the game.
Wait for the process to update the game and run the game.

Note: pay attention to recommendations, which are located on our website at https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5321-faq-about-launcher-and-updating/

I didn't try any of the suggestions because I was fortunate to have the download finish prior to receipt of the email response.

Wish I had a better answer for you. Best of luck.

I just tried both options. Neither worked.

Tried again and the game updated. The launcher counted down the total size of the update. So, if you see that nonsense, let the stupid launcher do its thing.

Gents,

I've tried to update my game (up to v5.002) several times today and got almost given up on it. Finally I found this thread and disabled my AntiVir software for the time of the installation and ... it worked!

Jeez, I'm so glad that I can read and understand what I read ... sometimes!
