Been trying to make it snow in one of my missions.  Veliki winter map, tried several different cloud settings, have precip set to snow 10.  No snow.

Any ideas?

Otherwise it's an amazing update.

Had some cumulonimbus clouds on Combat Box this last mission that stretched up to 23,000ft or so!  Very cool effect, I’m excited to see what other other variations are possible.  51 tweaks are greatly appreciated, thanks to @Gavrickand everyone involved!

Always until now you must have overcast for snow in the sim/editor...still the case most likely.

Dang! Got home late from drive-the-kids-around-for-practice duty and now it’s too late to try the update! Aaaaaaargh!

Lovely update as usual?

Also thanks for the small but welcome changes for the mission editor?.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself but this has been a highly requested feature by a small vocal minority (including myself): Will the farmstreads be spread out thoughout the continent and will there be specific ground textures around them? Or will they have the generic farmland texture we see in existing maps?

Quick assembly based question on the V1 site - how do you put this thing together and am I missing any pieces?

Yep, need to set overcast to set precip amount. Any cloud type seems to work with snow. Even then there are times you can fly through pockets with no snow.

On top of what others have said, you are missing the actual ramp with the rails. Check out the "Firing point of the mission editor"

I'm curious what other users think about the new cloud rendering in update 4.701. One of the things I liked about the previous version was the feeling of fast motion I got when flying past clouds closely. Parts of the cloud would fly past the cockpit quickly, giving that sense of motion, and looked very much like in real flight. So far I haven't seen this with the new clouds. They are smoother, and the visual 'shifting' seems to be gone, but I feel I've lost something. How bout you?

Speeds didn't change. Clouds are bigger, as they should be, and looks right to me.

Just a superb update. Still seeing small issue in the QMB with a G6 not dropping bomb when engaged in a dogfight. Otherwise, spectacular work as always guys. Thanks again!!!

Is it just me or does it feel like the interior textures of the WW1 aircraft models have taken a step back in quality?  Fly the Bristol and look around and than do the same in the DFW.  Seems like wood textures and metal textures are very muddy.  Colors almost glow as well.  Tried playing with gamma and hdr, but it just seems like the quality was better on the earlier release aircraft.

I like the change. Especially because the visual shifting detracted from the experience. I only mention the fly-bys effect because for me it gave a real sense of changing altitude and motion. But if I had to choose between the two I'll take the smooth, non-shifting clouds. ?

Clouds are outstanding, one of the best if not the best in any sim I am familiar with.  Also, I am up about 10+ FPS on average.  Usually around 120 in 4k now mid-130s.  So, we have vastly improved visuals and better frame rates!  Isn't this against some unwritten rule of video-game programing?  ?

Yes, this is surprising and impressive. ?

Might be a low pressure system moving in? Or is it high pressure?

Have you adjusted the settings in the mission setup? Assuming you're using the QMB?

Wow, I am so looking forward to downloading this update when I get back to Switzerland, as it looks absolutely incredible.

I'm especially looking forward to this:
8. Precipitation strength can now be set separately from the cloud type in Quick Mission

Finally I can give the wind shield wiper animations from the last update a proper workout.  ;)

Jokes aside, I can't wait to get back into the virtual skies.

Loving the new clouds. Lost my opponents in them a few times.

Also noticed the .50s and a few other sounds have a bit more depth?

Maybe I've had to much to drink.

Great update.

Has anyone had success using the Typhoons AP rockets on anything?

Was trying to sink one of the larger cargo ships but jesus tap dancing christ the gunners are savage.

(Was enjoying a proper RAF mission in the rain)

You stop evading for a split second and you're done for!

Great update, although a few problems in the 'Mission Builder' which I will report accordingly.

Love the Clouds - great enhancement to the sim - well done Han , Jason and the Team.

This is brilliant! I just flew one of the Missions in the Ice Ring campaign, and was blown away by how the new clouds transformed the lighting effects. The soft light through the clouds and the dappled patches of sunlight on the snow are fantastic - a new game. I was enjoying the new effects so much I almost forgot to bomb my targets!

Congratulations to the Devs, a fantastic update.

Clouds are puffy masses of water vapor. Sorry, they are fuzzy around the edges in real life and there is no "perfect" cloud shape as they are infinite so there is no wrong answer. We also have 50 cloud maps at the moment and we'll add some more in time. It's far to early to complain about these new clouds for any reason.

Jason

Ok Jason

I spent a lot of times in the clouds under above and in it.  everything I say it will be ended in the Sim because it's logical like in the past I am not the best writer to explain and I apology for it.. I really do like the whole atmosphere and all .. really . Great work and passion for all of us..  What I say it's not a complain but more of advices.. Clouds can be fluffy yes but also quite sharp ( depend distance etc. ).. if you would try a "mix" of both within the same cloud it may fix or look even much better, the eyes are always catching what is more focused having none your eyes will get tired. Like wearing corrective lens and not.. again it's awesome ! but we can always push it a little more ;)  and I love always to find what make things even better..

PS: Been years please fix the Yaks ( Russian light fighters ) flaps effects . ;)

Congratulations team on a really significant update. I flew in clouds, then I slept and dreamed of clouds.

Good job

However, the new cloud seems to have some problems in some aspects. If you look at the edge of the cloud closely, there will be grid like things in the translucent state. I don't know why.

My graphics card is 1060, the game picture is high picture quality, and the cloud setting is also high.

By the nature of the beast there's always a grid, in the previous version of the clouds there was too it just manifested itself differently. Same applies to clouds of other sims; it's there to remind you it's all a simulation within a simulation...

MODS Enabled breaks new clouds.

AQMB with Mods enabled ticked even though no mods are enabled through JSGME or installed directly:spacer.png

With MODS enabled not ticked:

A pity as I like the 'Sun Size Correction' mod, 'Longer Smoke Trails', and the 'Short Grass' mod.

I also notice a difference in planes skin saturation although for now I attribute that to lighting changes that apparently having 'Mods On' messes with.

So are the Dev's sending a message?  If so just remove the Mods Option in the Settings.

The clouds shouldn’t have any effect on those mods. Check and see if you have any thing corrupting this. When testing I had mods on and the clouds did not disappear.

A while back I had something similar to this and it turns out the JSGME did not remove all of a mod.

PS. I will return the light and skydome from my mod in the mods section soon.

DRAT!  So where would I go to look for a stray bit and how would I identify it?  Or do I need to re-download the game?....again.

I would say it’s in the sky file. So remove the whole thing. Hopefully that fixes it.

You nailed it again. Simply amazing. The new clouds looks so real. When I logged on last night I took myself in just admiring the scenery with clouds in some areas beeing darker.

What really sets this sim apart from any other sims is that you really feel you are there. Especially in VR.

Thanks for the update.

The clouds look amazing, great job from the team. Do the clouds also affect AI line of sight and can you hide/escape from them using cloud cover?

The new clouds look fantastic!

Can't wait to fly the new DFW!

Thank you to Jason, Han, and the rest of the IL-2 Great Battles team!  :salute:

I do wish the clouds, at least some of them, could have sharper edges. The new clouds are a great step up, and look amazing and quite realistic from a great height or distance - but from more typical game distances they're still just grey blur that sort of fade out around the edges in a most unfetching manner. Unless seen from afar they're very shapeless and blurry. It's still top class, mind you - and I don't know any other sim except maybe MFS that's managed to do sharp edges on clouds so I reckon it's not feasible. A great improvement for the game! The cloud variety and localized weather is fantastic!
