343KKT_Kintaro Posted December 5, 2021 Posted December 5, 2021 Now that the new M1 generation of MacBooks is released... what about the CoD compatibility with Macs? I won't be long before I purchase a MacBook for professional purposes (at least a second-hand product) and I wonder if I'll run my Blitz/Tobruk game on a Mac.
JV69badatflyski Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 (edited) Kintaro, Drop the idea, don't know why you want to purchase an overpriced piece of cr@p with fully enclosed software/harware architecture and paying for every minor upgrade. It's not because some woki-woki hiped the stuff 20years ago for graphics-work that it's still the case. It's not because some SanFran snowflakes use the fruit-cr@p that you also have to use it. What an overpriced piece of junk can do, a good windows/linux flaptop can do for more than half the price with the same specs. And no, most games do not run on the plastic-cr@p, even with the emuler. Edit: Forget the idea, i do not think, and my personnal opinion is that, TFS will recode the whole engine just to work on that overhyped cow excrements. Edited December 7, 2021 by JV69badatflyski 1 2
OBT-Eazy Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 With a Mac, I work. With a PC on Windows, I must become an IT engineer -_- 1

With a PC on Windows, I must become an IT engineer -_- Working for a VERY(like very-very-very ) big French Multinational company (that bought our company ), even the graph designers stopped with the limited HW/SW combo, they got some serious Dell's and some 32(or more, didn't measure them) 4K screens. They're happy. and when they're pissed and smash some keyboard or mouse (graph designers are psychos ), they just walk few stories down and got directly a replacement, no need to wait few days to get the new keyboard just because some ultra high specs connection plug broke down because you moved the keyboard 10cm's to the left... As for the iT part, it's always equivalent to the decisions taken by the management and how much they want to invest in it. I can tell you the french management's decision sucks (greedy bast@rds), our local branch has to always "walk around" those decisions to make our life easier .(we work in multi environnements, win, linux, sql, oracle, android and a lot of specific stuff bank domain/financial related, propriety stuff with giganticus DB's) So, even in a company full of cash to throw out of the windows, the replaced their mac's with high end flaptops, just because they do the same work for less and are easier to integrate in the network than the overpriced chinese build stuff sold in some fancy shops. If you're happy with a 2000€ 13''flaptop, ok for me, i prefer a 17" flaptop anyway....for less Ps: sans rancune hein?! cette gueguerre aura toujours lieu.
343KKT_Kintaro Posted December 7, 2021 Author Posted December 7, 2021 Didn't want to start a flame... but, nevertheless, thank you my friends! I got the response I was looking for.

Use Mac for a big company is useless, for my personal usage, it's perfect (I'm a programer), and to be honest, I use my Mac as remote desktop client but nothing compare the user experience. But frankly, since a couple of years, I'm disappointed by their prices, it's crazy. 1000€ for a simple support for a screen...

I played BoS on my 2019 i9 MacBook with bootcamp for months at average 40fps. It works very well at 1080p. I suppose CoD would work too. I eventually bought a desktop game pc that goes to 140fps. Is it better? Yes! Is the Mac still good if it's all you have? Of course! I don't think you will be able to play any pc games on a m1 chip since it's arm, not Intel architecture. Bootcamp works on Macs because until now the MacBooks were just pcs with a different operating system. What bootcamp does is to deliver a set of device drivers for windows. If you want to play on a Mac I recommend you buy a Intel Mac, not a m1 one.
343KKT_Kintaro Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 Thank you VilsonFarias, that was a very clear answer. It is not absolutely clear I'll end up buying a Mac, but it's very likely. At any rate... thank you!
FurphyForum Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 @343KKT_Kintaro where have you been hiding?

I recently started a intense training program which spans from October the 1st, 2021, to June the 24th, 2022. Now I'm intended to become a "Web and Mobile Web Developer". And it's very hard to me, really. Many years ago I learned a few HTML4 tags... but now, for the first time in my life, I'm learning Linux, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, SQL & MySQL, PHP, and more. I'm not sure I'll obtain the corresponding academic qualification, which is a professional degree, but I'll try. As a consequence of all of this I completely stopped my (most of the time pitiful) online apperances in the skies of Blitz/Tobruk. But Terminator said "I'll be back"... and so I say myself.
FurphyForum Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 All you can do is give it your best shot. Thumbs up on your qualification 1
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 The m1 MacBooks are neither overpriced, nor junk. They are way better than similarly priced Windows laptops and the software is far superior. 1

This is the impression the M1 generation gave me when I watched the official commercial (cannot go back to the original video, butI remember it ran for more than one hour).
Mabes72 Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 There is a Windows build for Arm architecture. I don't know much but found this article. https://9to5mac.com/2021/05/03/the-super-easy-guide-for-installing-windows-on-m1-macs-using-parallels-desktop-16-for-mac-video/ Hope this helps.

I just bought my first MacBook (m1 air base model) and it is great for browsing, streaming, spreadsheets, word processing, web design, and all other basic tasks. The battery is great and I even was able to play Warthunder on high settings at around 70 FPS on battery. What a joy this is to use vs. a Windows gaming laptop for every day use!
343KKT_Kintaro Posted December 9, 2021 Author Posted December 9, 2021 Hey guys, all of this fantastic, thanks for sharing your impressions and experience.
