Lol it is an addiction I tell ya, an addiction!!

VR is the devil!!

My wife is now fussing at me about my office area (which is in the garage for crying out loud). She is like what are all these cables for and why don't you clean this up.  I told her as soon as I get the Aero and if it goes well I will be selling all these other headsets to get them out of here lol.

That it is :D..

For whatever reason, I could never got into trackir and have always played on screen, but now that I’ve tasted VR, I'll most definitely quit playing if VR stops existing for me.

Yeah same here, could never go back to monitor gaming.

Here is another short review about the Aero, in MSFS.

To save time, for those of us who are time poor, he is going to buy one.

I sure hope Varjo is also testing their device with Windows 11. Their website only states Windows 10.

Distortion when moving your head? Not enough Powerful video card maybe?,  get that in all VR  any other theories?

He keeps harping about it not having a Mic when Varjo has already stated it will ship with a Mic.

They have also stated they are working out the distortion through software.

These video's are useful for keeping things in perspective and reminding us that while the Aero is really impressive it is not perfect.

I would note that the first video was published prior to Varjo releasing a software patch that reduced (but not completely resolved) the distortion issue.

I have ordered one and still expect to see some image and chromatic distortion issues if I really go looking for them when the Aero finally arrives.

Would have loved for the headset to have come with a Valve Index/ HP G2 off ear audio solution as well but the promised clarity and reduced load on the GPU overrode that concern for me.

Seems Europeans are getting their units first.

Some have already reported this.

I will, third to fourth week of January start rebuilding a thread, for various headsets. My Aero was announced to arrive in February. :popcorm:

P.S. off-topic: Cyberpunk 2077 VR is also scheduled for late January to February.

Some actual user reviews are starting to appear and the results are a bit of a mixed bag with users reporting distortion issues.

Very interesting. That there is no motion smoothing at all might turn out to be a big issue and a hard disqualifier in my book. They'll have to fix that till February.

I'm sure they'll continue to improve it.  Here's how smooth it runs right now in DCS.

Oh Well, pretty bad quality. Hope it's not representative. The chromatic aberration is stronk in these videos.

Cheap Samsung probably (hopefully).  ?

For sure it is not representative. I was taking through the lense pictures in several devices and some of them were showing chroma aberration in the pictures but they were not showing it when using it with my own eyes. you should not be worried about that.

I am curious about the pixel numbers used by the Aero when using 100SS% in SteamVR. Perhaps those lenses need less internal supersampling than the G2.

Hey! that definition and colors look pretty damn good!

Why in the hell Varjo didn´t provided a larger FOV!!! Not asking a Pimax FOV, just Index FOV is enough for me.  :dash:

The Varjo Aero is being delivered across Germany already. Yesterday there was a get together of 4 YouTubers who had used theirs for a few days now.

All 4 out of 4 of them have dead pixels in their Aeros.

Not a big issue here, as warranty and local laws protect them to not accept a tolerance as in "if it is below 5 dead pixels, you got to deal with it". But something that should be known, especially to the people across the world who are not protected by the law.

Hence, please be aware of this and make sure you buy in a way that you have the right to return in case something doesn't work out as expected.

Frankly I am getting a bad taste in my mouth with Varjo.

What good was it to get in on the early pre-order on day 1 when apparently they are only servicing European customers first.

I guess the only upside to that would be letting the software mature a little more before we get our units here in the states.

But yeah this is really not sitting well with me at all.

Put me down as waiting for the Aero, hopefully by the end of this month (Spain, sorry dburne). There is a dedicated Discord for it here...

Re: Dead Pixels. Is this something you can provide a link to?

4 out of 4 is not a great result. Were they all dead pixel scenario's or were some "stuck" pixels?

Some Varjo VR3 headsets have been reported to have had issues with stuck pixels.

Not sure what the deal in Australia would be for this. Suspect that it would not be as good as Germany.

I am hoping to get an update from the local Aust distributor, early next week, on the EDT for my Aero Order.

Once you get it down there are dedicated channels on there for IL-2/DCS/iRacing to name a few..

https://youtu.be/I6V_GbV9cag

They said dead pixels, but did not differentiate between dead or stuck. They might not have tested if they were just stuck. They mentioned the pixels turnt out like this within a few days of playing.

More information:

- Varjo Aero requires mandatory online access while running.

- No Motion Smoothing.

- The information that it would require a lower resolution for the distortion profile due to its lenses is false:

There is a setting in the Varjo software that was overlooked before. The Varjo defaults to "medium" resolution, similar like the VP2, and then you can select "High" and "Ultra" as well, pushing the rendered pixel count above the Vive Pro 2.

Can anyone that uses Discord check this out for me? It appears I am on the Varjo Gamers Club channel but all I see is a Welcome dated June of 2021, no threads or activity?

I believe the key is to go to the #Entrance channel, and under "What Type of Games do you Prefer?" upvote all 3 at the very bottom (The count will go up with your input, down if you already did it).. make sure it just goes up once.. that should do it.

Someone recent had the same issue, did it ask you questions about what you play, i.e .Flight Sims/Racing, etc? Say YES to all, all the channels will appear. I'll see if I can find the actual way to accomplish this..

Ok thanks - no it did not ask me any questions.

I would add apparently I had already signed up for Discord at some point as I have a user name for it.

#Entrance channel, upvote bottom 3, all will show up then.. what is your Discord name, i'll look for you. #varjo-aero-launch is most used, then The Flight and Racing sims, but #home-improvement is quite interesting also.

Ok I will take a look thanks - same as here, dburne.

Well I can read the FAQ but at the bottom of it where it says to hit the arrow down button to take me to the entrance, I am stuck as I do not see an arrow down button.

Edit: OK I think I got it , had to join as visitor since I do not own the headset yet. Thanks!

Yes I had edited my reply, all good now!

Well cept I am seeing some with order numbers higher than mine receiving their headsets. Maybe they will start shipments to the states next week.

One takeaway I got from the above review apparently with the Aero it is very easy to pull up the desktop view with the push of a button, and he said the clarity was so sharp on the desktop view he could work with it easily and stay in VR rather than removing the headset to work on desktop and then putting it back on when resuming the game.

That would be really nice. I game for several hours at a time and will be excited to try that out rather than constantly removing the headset to do my thing and putting it back on. Like in PWCG when I need to fill in the mission report, etc.

You could always use OVR Toolkit, map it to whichever key, any layout, or just desktop, very flexible. Priceless tool for VR users. Well maybe not "price-less" ? 10 bucks, worth every penny.
