lwalter Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 As long as I had 8 USB devices plugged into my PC, I had no problem with IL2 Great Battles. The 8 devices are: Crosswind pedals, Warthog stick and throttle, 4 MFDs and an ED tracker pro. The latter provides head-tracking axis, but I don't use it directly in IL2, only through OpenTrack. So, I only need to map the first seven devices. I recently added a 9th one, a button box, and now it's a mess. Although, IL2 can handle bindings from my 7 previous devices + the new button box, IL2 only pick the 8 first devices presented to it by Windows. I tried to change the order in which my USB devices were plugged, but I don't seem to find the right combination when IL2 picks all my devices first but the ED Tracker Pro. The only workaround I found is to unplug the ED Tracker Pro until IL2 is running and then plug it back in. When will IL2 handle more than 8 devices and when will IL2 not rely on device order? All "modern" simulators can do that: DCS, FS 2020, even Warthunder!
1CGS -DED-Rapidus Posted November 23, 2021 1CGS Posted November 23, 2021 @lwalter, Direct Input has a limit on the number of devices processed simultaneously (limit 8).
lwalter Posted November 23, 2021 Author Posted November 23, 2021 @-DED-Rapidus I'm aware of this limitation of IL2 GB and I wish the device support would be reworked to match other simulators like DCS and FS2020. When will that happen? However, currently, I'm not even asking for IL2 GB to support more than 8 devices, but more precisely to support the 8 devices I want to map into IL2. The 9th one, ED Tracker Pro, I don't map into IL2. It's only used by OpenTrack. I have the workaround described in my original post, but it is quite annoying to each time unplug my head tracker before I launch IL2 and then replug and recalibrate it when IL2 is done launching. Any better workaround would be welcome!
Lord_Pyro Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I second that. There are many ppl who have more than 8 USB Devices so one can't argue there would be no need to adress this problem. I know there is a workaround of (re)plugging devices until the order matches what you need however that should be nothing more than a stopgap measure.
