Can you see shell casings in exterior view after firing guns?

I have searched YouTube and the forum for an answer to this, but from watching videos that people have posted of some wonderful BoX action I cannot see any empty shell casings (from exterior view) after guns are fired. I thought that you could see that in IL2  1946 but maybe I'm remembering incorrectly. If it's not modelled in BoX then ok that answers the question, but with all the awesome realism of this sim it would be a little surprising. So is it just not a visible feature? Thanks for any help.

Yes, depending on the plane.

Take another look, the shell casings are modeled. Depending on the plane they will come out of a different place.

Take the Mustang for example, they should be coming out of the bottom of the wings:

I know it's a feature, but would we all be bothered if it wasn't?

They have been there since the beginning, however, there was some sort of rendering bug that made them mostly invisible with a faint outline for the longest time. When they brought in deferred shading they instantly got better. It is a cool feature to have.

Ok. That's cool. I was watching a P-51 mission video on YouTube and didn't see them so that's why I wondered. And no, I would not be all bothered if they weren't there. I was just curious. My whole point was that this sim is fantastic, or appears to be from watching videos. I can't get back in the air until I get a computer to run it but I'm really excited about getting to that point.

Excellent video. It's a movie with all the ingredients in there. I wonder about the speech and dialogs. I mean the different voice recordings. How did you handle that aspect? Thanks again for sharing.

If you don't mind, let's hop in here for discussion of the series. I see I hijacked this thread, which was not my intention, sorry OP! ?

They might be a bit smaller than you expect... a 0.50 cal casing is about 1/100th the length of the P-51... and 1/500th the width.

A few aircraft guns also kept their casings on board after firing (flexibly mounted guns come to mind - but there may be others)

There are always a few features which are missing that older sims had (e.g. Il-2 1946 had a better padlock view system; Aces Over Europe's time-skip feature)... but, in terms of overall fidelity and detail regarding the aircrafts themselves these new sims are superior in all respects. So it is safe to assume that there are improvements - often fantastic ones.

I've heard some people have been leaving the game because they disappear too soon after falling through the sky and landing on the ground, oh, and that they should do much more damage to the troops and vehicles below that they fall on.

Don't worry about it! That was an awesome video! Are there more of them on youtube? Can't wait to get back into this! I just need help building the perfect system to run it.

I watched another one on youtube this afternoon. Where the 47s keep shooting rockets at the Tiger. You're actually making these videos from IL2 BoX exclusively? I know you're editing and such but I amazed at what this sim can apparently do now. I have been away for a long time. Since the days of IL21946.

There is very, very little editing with the video footage. I do use some mods for the clouds and explosions but what you see is real game footage, no tricks there. My basic idea with the movie series was to show how beautiful this game is and all the cool stuff and details it has (like your shell casings), what we are missing while going 600km/h.

I'm very happy you're amazed by the beauty of the game, my goal is clearly achieved ?
