Been looking for an excuse to share these. Photograph of a a BF109 my uncle was involved in restoring, here it is being recovered from a fresh water lake in Russia in the 1990s in remarkable condition. LA5FN would be my choice if my name comes up

You can just feel the atmosphere of it all. The pilot hopping in, the engine running, the serious, slightly apprehensive looks on their faces. The smoke hanging around and the prop spinning causes me to be awed by the sheer power in that Sabre engine.

 

Also, I am very interested in that La-5FN up for grabs!

That's cool, thanks for sharing! Reminds me that I've got a nice personal picture myself too (not competing):

This picture was taken by my grandfather and his best friend when this B-17 crash-landed just outside of their hometown (a little village in the east of the Netherlands). Of course, they had to be careful as taking photos of a crash site or even coming close to it was heavily punished by the Germans.

 

I was able to track down the aircraft with the help of a local organisation and discover the fates of the crew - luckily everyone survived although they were all taken prisoner and a couple were heavily wounded.

I would love a Hurricane!  It's one of the few collector planes I haven't picked up yet, and I would enjoy learning it quite a bit.  Thanks for doing this!

Just to show you one of the pictures that I like the most:

A mechanic of the Escuadrillas Azules in his tent during Operation Barbarosa with the typical Spanish humor...

 

 

Translation and meaning:

"Mesón" (type of restaurant) called:
"Tira Palante" (Tira para adelante) with two meanings: Go ahead or shoot forward.
Ensaladilla rusa: Russian salad (in Spain we can say "ensalada de hostias, to mean a fight with many punches.
Pepino: "un pepinazo" can be a big cucumber but also a big explosion.

This picture shows my fascination and what I try to do in this game.

Playing with the cards you have. 

You use what you got. UK and RAF with commonwealth pilots flew what they had against axis superior planes in Africa far East and as home defence. Fascinating story and brave pilots.
