Sherman - using your binoculars and gunning problem...

S! All,

Just wanted to ask the Tank Crew community how you work out the use of the binoculars with the Sherman...
On most tank in TC, when in the commander seat, you just need to call out the binoculars to use them.
But when I get in the commander position inside a Sherman, it seems' that you are given the machine gun... and if you want to use the binoculars, your need to nestle the gunsight and then use the gun... so you can get your binoculars...

... but after this, If you go in the gunner position, you need to nestle the gunsight and re-take your gun turret before you can shoot the enemy tank. What this means, is that the German tank in front of you got 1 or 2 second faster to shoot you down!

So my question is... any helpful way to by pass this so you can use your binoculars and be fast to shoot down enemy tanks!!!

Thanks in advance if you have any trick or tips for this problem.

The 50cal on the top of the Sherman is a bit of a tricky one.

You take control of the gun like you do the main gun, T (by default).

So in order to be able to use binoculars as the commander standing up you need to "let go" of the gun first.

Things should then work as normal.

S! DD_Friar,

Thanks for you reply... I do know about the 'Let Go' of the gun first to use the binocular...
But try after this to get in the gunner seat 'No 1 key' and see what you need to do before you can actually shoot the tank in front of you?!!!

Cheers,

Yea it is going from commander view back to gunner view that is the issue?

It's weird I was having the issue today in the KV-1 but I swear the free tanks don't have this issue?

Or maybe I'm just not pressing the best keys

I've been using cntrl + C to switch through positions

It's a real issue when you are one manning a tank trying to hit targets 3km away

You have to fire the gun accurately then quickly switch to commander and get your binocs out then quickly switch back
I couldn't actually do it fast enough

But theirs keys  I can press to I don't have to rotate through all the positions I believe?

I have my seat positions tied to a 4 way hat switch on my HOTAS, so I can instantly switch back and forth among them with the flick of a finger.

Down = Right Shift 0 = Driver

Left = Right Shift 1 = Gunner

Right = Right shift 2 = Commander

Up = Right Shift 3 = Radio Operator

The problem is unique to the M4 because of that .50 cal the Commander has in the open hatch.

When  you are in the gunner position, if you 'nestle to the sight' and then switch to the unbuttoned commander, he will also be 'nestled to the sight' and you have to back him off of that position to be able to use bino's.

I love the M4 because in a close fight the gunner doesn't need to get into the sight, he can aim just fine without 'nestling to the sight'.

Anyway, to deal with the OP issue, I have a button mapped to toggle 'nestle to sight' so I am just in the habit of hitting that when I want off the MG.

[edit] Didn't realize I was resurrecting a months old thread. Sorry.

Yes, I also have a toggle switch mapped to the "nestle to the sight" command, so I can instantly get on or off the aiming view.

Ho le posizioni del mio sedile legate a un hat switch a 4 vie sul mio HOTAS, quindi posso spostarmi istantaneamente avanti e indietro tra di loro con il semplice tocco di un dito.

Giù = Maiusc destro 0 = Conducente

Sinistra = Destra Maiusc 1 = Artigliere

Destra = Shift destro 2 = Comandante

Su = Maiusc destro 3 = Operatore radio

Good idea this. Excellent.
