S!,

I just want to thank the Devs for creating such a great sim in Tank Crew. I'm a long time flight sim enthusiast, but now thanks to TC, I haven't flown in over a month. This brings me to the subject that I, and many others, are now speculating. Is there anything that you TC Devs can tell us about developing future armored fighting vehicles? There are so many interesting vehicles that could be brought to TC to make it even more fun and diverse. Since I own everything that 1C has released, I can't see myself not buying whatever AFV is presented for purchase.

With that being said, I'm presenting a list of AFVs I feel should be in future TC updates.

British: Cromwell , Churchill Mk VII, and Sherman Firefly

USA: Sherman M4A3E8 (Easy 8),  and M10 Wolverine

German: Stug III G, Jagdpanther, Tiger II

Soviet: T34-85, Su-85, IS-1

Of course, this will cause some debate, but each of the above are well documented and produced in significant numbers.

Let the discussion begin!!

I would buy a Firefly instantly, love that tank, and it would fit in well in Western Front scenarios.

I can only agree with the overwhelming consensus that more Tank Crew stuff would be awesome. Some of my first posts on the forum were speculating about the future of Tank Crew, after all! Now that I know a little more about how the expansions work and planned upcoming content, I'm leaning towards a Western Front expansion being the better call. I'd go as far as to say that the devs might be gearing towards a Tank Crew sequel after the Battle of Normandy, which would be the perfect vehicle (pun intended) for more tanking content. Although unlikely, I'd like to see a few areas with high-fidelity terrain like in Prokhorvka, maybe around Caen or Villers-Bocage.

I think the best way forwards is to have tanks that served on both fronts be Collector Vehicles. The StuG III is probably the most pressing to add (I promise it's not just because of my name), and some other lend-lease tanks like the Valentine IXs for the Allies.

Although I would personally like to see late-war Eastern Front tanks (the IS-2 in particular), they would probably first require a new map, which is a LONG way off. For a 'Battle of the Bocage', expansion, however, I think I would most like to see the Jagdpanther, Firefly, and M10 Wolverine. I don't know if the variants of some German tanks already present in Tank Crew would really be worth including (i.e. the later Panther and Tiger variants) due to how incremental the changes were between versions.

Depends on which map you want the option on.

Kursk is too early for the IS-2, T-34/85 or Jagdpanther and Tiger II, for instance. They won't  'fit' in most Eastern front maps,

although the SU-85 and StuG IIIG will, but that's about it.

The Netherlands/Belgium-Ardennes and Normandy maps, however, are fine for all the US, British and German vehicles.

By the way, I am missing the Hetzer tank destoyer on the German side (Western front)

I'm personally hoping for a Bagration Expansion, which would be the perfect setting for some tank action... especially if it included the Baltics with Operation Doppelkopf.

Edit: The only problem would be the massive disparity in air power. And, given that Il-2 is primarily a flight sim... might be difficult to justify.

S!,

I would love to see some of the Soviet AFVs  added, but with the Normandy map just around the corner, it might be best to focus on adding US & British AFVs. For the Germans, the Stug III G & Jagdpanther should be a priority, although, the Whirlbelwind would be so nice for the AAA crowd :)

Maybe Jason can chime in to give us hope

Normandy makes more sense for tank action. Epson, Jupiter, Goodwood, Totalize, Tractable to name a few.

Yep. Good catch. Seems like Mr. Zaloga produced an error here. 4 Fronts with 500 tanks is a little "thin" to say the least.

Maybe, for the purposes of rounding some things out, there should be reconnaissance or armored cav vehicles.  And no, I’m not thinking a Rat Patrol-esque jeep, or a VW Thing;  I’m thinking more like an M8 Greyhound or Puma type armored car.  Soviets would have used what for the armored recon role, a T-70 tank, or something?

Honestly, aside from looking like it ought to be driven by Charlize Theron, I can see something like that providing some fun and perhaps some tactical depth for the nerds.

It is sad to try and make a somewhat historical mission especially for ground combat on the existing maps.  Yes, I know, it started as a flight sim, but the lack of detail on the maps makes for a very basic layout with few towns, roads, etc.  I centered in the other day on Malmedy and was surprised of the lack of detail concerning roads and other towns in the area.  I suppose this can't be fixed, but it sure would be neat to have some really good maps to work with.

Too much details are missing from the Bodenplatte map, especially for ground orientated stuff ....

a HUGE and nice pan of soup, but i miss essential meatballs, pepper and garlic

Ground battles without infantry and reconnaissance without a player Willys?

BTW Vluki and Laprino are also great for tanks as example.

I know IL2 is a flight sim, but this interaction with TC is great, and you're crazy if you don't like pea shooting at planes with them Flak trucks.

You could be flanking tigers with it like your boy here right now if you weren't so scared to try new things.

That looked pretty cool.  Reminded me of one of the scenes in Kelly's Heroes.  I'll check it out on Steam.  In any online game, a lot depends on whether the people I encounter in the game are nice people, or if they're jerks.?  But...back to the IL-2 Tank Crew discussion.

P.S. There aren't any Australians in your tank crew, are there?

I was thinking of making some nice Tiger vs Sherman missions on the Bodenplatte map in the snow, I had some great spots picked out that I discovered while building Hell Hawks. "Tigers in the Snow" was the working title.

Very atmospheric, especially in the snow/snowing, with low cloud deck etc. Not as good as a fully detailed 'tank' map, but it would have been pretty good stuff.

No interest by the Devs though, so I abandoned the idea and moved on to working with DCS.

S!,

I'm sure I'd buy that campaign. On the flip side, you could be TC's benevolent mission builder by supplying us tankers with a free one ;)

Either the Easy Eight or Firefly

American/British and German ones you will probably get in next TC, i would be suprised if they dont make west front TC2 and some small detailed map for it. For russians IS is only ones badly needed, but i doubt they are coming next.

I gotta be that guy and say that I have almost zero interest in ground vehicles in a flight sim, especially individually sold ones for 20 bucks. I'd much rather that time and money be put into improving the flying aspects of the game, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

that being said, if its gonna happen I'd rather it be something purpose built to interact with the aircraft, like a player controlled FAC would be kinda neat. Maybe something like an armored recon car like a Greyhound or what have you.

Well, there's this thing called Air Marshall coming, and I think it's hazy what exactly that will entail at first, but it probably does open up some different role possibilities.  You could do FAC right now though with your buddies on comms, albeit in a tank or aa platform.

Two i would like to see as reconaisance vehicles: a Willys, and this BRDM-2 would be a challenge to program as it's also a boat:

Since when has the BRDM been a WWII vehicle?
