Error After Update

Recommended Posts

Since the update I have been getting this in the Pe-2 series 35;

This does not happen with the Series 87 or any other plane I've discovered so far.

*** This is a "Mods ON" error even if no mods are enabled. ***

If does not happen with Mods OFF.

Since this is a Mods ON error I doubt the devs will do anything with it.

Are there any suggestions as how to perhaps fix it?

Did you have mods installed previously? if so a file might have gotten stuck somewhere. double check and make sure all your old mods are fully removed.

Failing that, give 'er the ole Steam Integrity cache check and see if the issue is still there

Ditto Mtnbiker's thought. Guessing you have a mod which is still partially or even fully installed somehow. Also a guess it is probably one of the Russian to USAAF/RAF aircrew uniform mods. Have a look in data/graphics/characters and see if you have stuff there that should not be

@Beebop

  do you have the pilot in the pit mod?  If so, it seems that when an update happens something usually gets overwrote if you leave your mods loaded. I’ve had to erase files related to the mod to fix the problem.

No.  As I said this occurs when Mods ON is enabled.  When I took that screenshot I had disabled ALL mods but left "Mods ON" on.  With Mods OFF the error does not occur.

When if first occurred I thought it was a mod that caused the problem.  I turned Mods OFF and it didn't occur.  Then I went in and with JSGME disabled all mods and re-started with Mods ON and got what you saw in the screenshot.

I do not use those mods and have not at any time.

Don't use Steam, never used Steam, will never use Steam.  To my way of thinking its a scam on the Developers to get some of their hard earned money.  I think Steam sold them a bill of goods but that's just my opinion.  The only advantage I can see to using Steam is the updates are automatic although to balance that they are sometimes delayed from what us "Direct Users" can get.

Good suggestion.  I will check that.  Thanks!

Pretty sure that you get the USSR to USAAF/RAF pilot mod as part of the Nth Africa mod as part of the bundle fyi.

OK.  I have used that mod but not at the present time.

So I looked into data/graphics/characters but not sure what to look for.  *I will make a list of what I have but it will take some time.  For instance in 'botsoldierusa > textures' and in all 'pilot country name' folders as well I have files with exclamation points (!) in front of them and identically named files without the exclamation point.  Is that right?

If either are possibly mod related, which ones should I excise?

And also, I am remiss in not thanking everyone for their suggestions on where and what to look for.  Too often folks get lambasted for asking that, (i have been guilty of that in the past too), so I would just like to say thanks for reminding me to consider those even if I stated I already had.  Sometimes you think you've done something when you haven't.  A curse of a game like this that is so multi-layered.

* These are the only folders in 'characters' that have exclamation pointed files.

Not exactly sure but again a guess as to an approach I would try renaming the characters folder to something easy like charactersx and then try running the game again with all mods disabled and mods on and see what happens. When I disable all mods I do not have a characters folder under graphics. So if this works for you I think you could probably delete the charactersx folder once you feel happy to do so.

Pretty much - as far as I know - MODS OFF tells the game executable to only look at gtp files and the files it knows about outside (which can be a problem if you edit say an ini file or overwrite it via JSGME. I think that is what the generate snapshot of game files task in jsgme is all about but haven't looked at the manual for a long time ie gives a recovery point) v's MODS ON which says look at folders and files which are in the correct structure etc outside the gtp files and if you find them use them instead of the ones in the gtp files.

This is why partially installed/uninstalled mods are a problem. I'm sure this is no news to you as I'm pretty sure I remember you suffering pain from this before.

PS renaming the folder won't interfere with re-enabling mods as the folder would get created afresh when you enable the mod with it in

ADDENDUM; I just went through all multi-crew planes including AI (C-47/B-25 and only the Pe2s35 has this anomaly.

Sorry I just edited my post so please reread it in case it makes a difference.

@Stonehouse,

I did as you suggested and renamed "characters" to "charactersx" and 'Lt. Popoutta Theplane' disappeared but all other mods remained activated.

So I will make a backup of "charactersx" in case I find a need for it later) and remove that folder.

Thanks again! :thank_you:

That and being able to easily check and repair files, among other things... Steam's verify cache function has fixed my IL-2 install and many other games more times than I can count. But I'm sure I won't change your mind so you do you, thats the wonder of PC gaming.

At least we did not have to re-save all our missions after the last update,which I was very happy about.

But we are all very grateful to the devs for such a great flight sim.

I just wish they would fix those darn ground hit spikes

Me too.  They are a bit extreme as seen in this screenshot:
