Team Fusion ATAG_Pattle Posted August 3, 2021 Team Fusion Posted August 3, 2021 Hi All, Next is our 4K/ trueSKY WIP update! Bf 109 variants, featuring 4K and trueSKY images from IL-2 Cliffs of Dover Blitz / Desert Wings Tobruk. For High Res images: https://ibb.co/album/nPqS4z trueSKY and 4K images are WIP. Regards, TFS Team 19
354thFG_Panda_ Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Very good!! Is there any effect of performance with these enhancements? (Truesky, obviously 4k will be a bit more demanding) 1
Team Fusion ATAG_Pattle Posted August 3, 2021 Author Team Fusion Posted August 3, 2021 Hi Red Panda, TS should be very minimal. 4K will be a choice for players. 2K will be the other option. 3
Mysticpuma Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Brilliant! Great to see the sky come alive, can't wait to see some 'challenging" weather conditions. Out of interest, does Truesky also create mist (like the current early morning mist)? Very nice skins too! Looking at the exhausts on the 109, is that skinned smoke/oil effects or does it develop over time? Great work guys. 1
Team Fusion ATAG_Pattle Posted August 4, 2021 Author Team Fusion Posted August 4, 2021 Hi MP. Yes re mist, which I hope to show soon. The smoke/oil is the weathering selection. 3
Dagwoodyt Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 (edited) Hopefully the trueSKY implementation will soon be in good enough shape to allow promotional videos . Edited August 4, 2021 by Dagwoodyt 1
palker4 Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 I wonder how far TF will push with true sky. Will the weather be dynamic or static? You can have multiplayer missions lasting hours like on TWC server and it would be interesting to watch weather systems moving across the channel and pushing the players to avoid them. Also how will AI react to clouds and weather. Will they avoid them or follow the mission builder path dead straight, seeing and shooting through the clouds?
Mysticpuma Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 A question about Truesky. Will it be possible for players to increase the detail/fidelity of the clouds via graphics options? Something like: Clouds detail - Low/Medium/High/Cinematic (or Ultra)? 1
BladeMeister Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 (edited) This all looks good and I can't wait, but what is glaringly awful is the missing hakenkreuz on the tail. I get it that we cannot have that because of the stupid reason that it is illegal in a few countries to display it, but why can we not at least have the old maltese cross used on the wings and fuselage of the current German planes on the tail? It is just such a glaring omission when one sees nothing on the tail or just kill markings. The old mod for 4.13 and earlier which allowed a person to apply an hakencreuz if they wanted it was a great solution yet even this was rendered useless in all of these newer versions. Why can we not have a maltese cross while they are upgrading the skins? Of the VERY few things I find annoying in CLOD/DWT this is the worst. S!Blade<>< Edited August 7, 2021 by BladeMeister

S!Blade<>< I do understand that the Hakenkreuz is illegal in some countries and cannot be included, especially not sold for profit, but I do agree with you that a personal choice of adding a 'simple' mod to add a Hakenkreuz to default skins would be the player's choice and completely optional. I get the argument that players can create custom skins, but TFS supply some already superb skins, none of which (Luftwaffe) are historically accurate due to this. Can I ask what the issue with supplying an optional mod that is not included in the 'for sale' content, is? Not a criticism, just wondering why it cannot be a players choice? Hiuuz Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 (edited) Not only the swastika is forbidden in some countries. Eg. In Hungary the five pointed red star is also! From this point of view those should be both treated equally. Represent the planes historically accurate! So I vote for an "on/off" checkbox for that in the setup menu. That would be the most liberal option! Edited August 7, 2021 by Hiuuz

I agree that would be the best option, but it would be illegal to provide it to players in countries where the hakenkreuz is banned. Personally, I would like video games to be given the same artistic exemption that movies and TV shows are given when it comes to showing Nazi symbols. With that being said, though, I can understand why countries like Russia and Germany have such a reluctance to relax their laws when it comes to such symbols. WWII and Nazi atrocities were simply too large and destructive to not have a profound impact on the countries involved for generations to come (just look at how much media is still being made about the war), so it makes sense that Nazi symbols still hold so much power and disturbing meaning.
Hiuuz Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 @Varrattu Thanks for the correction, I never merged to the topic so deeply! @Cybermat47Symbols changes, methods changes but tyranny is eternal But back to the topic! TrueSky will be a huge improvement, I hope the guys can implement it well! These early images looks great already! 4K textures are also very welcome! I'm so lucky I could switch to 4K screen resolution recently, so there they will shine as sun on the clear sky! I've wondered about 4K textures, because normaly you see planes from a distance. You can see 4K's strenght only on your own plane, but now I see, that especially on higher resolution 4K textures are really legitimate on every plane! Can't wait TFS 6.0 ?
Avimimus Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 (edited) 10 hours ago, Varrattu said: Human cultures use symbols to express specific ideologies and social structures and to represent aspects of their culture. As such please don't call the 'Hakenkreuz' a 'swastika'. The two symbols are radically different. While the the 'swastika' is a symbol of divinity and spirituality in Indian religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, the 'Hakenkreuze' on German aircraft 'skins' are symbols of Nazi Germany, exclusively associated with hatred and intolerance. ~V~ Thank you! It is a good point. I do suspect that people have been calling it a swastika for so long that it may be hard to change that practice. The sad fact is that the crimes were so monstrous that such symbols and all related symbols are tainted (at least outside of India or temple/ceremonial uses). Same thing happened for Indigenous uses of similar motifs in North America. That said, I might start moving away from using the word 'swastika' where I can. It is often the easiest word to use with English speakers though, and it is sometimes important to discuss inappropriate uses of the symbol in a way which is quickly understandable to an audience - so I'm not sure what the best approach is in many situations.
