Panzerlang Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 (edited) A BD present from my wife, arriving tomorrow. I've watched a few reviews and seen nothing but glowing accolades but I'm more interested in opinions from the IL2 flyers. My pedal progression: -VKB T-Rudder -MFG Crosswinds -Thurstmaster Pendular (Returned) Currently ending up with: -MFG Crosswinds (lately with the damper mod) for WWII -VKB T-Rudder for WWI (these just feel right to me for those old rudder bars and give really precise rudder control). All of them are outstanding pedals. The only reason I returned the TM Pendular was that I ultimately preferred the Crosswinds simply for comfort with my feet resting on the pedals rather than the configuration I set up for the TM Pendular (which seemed be hard on my knees - a personal problem due to abuse at a younger age). I am sure I could have worked around it, but they were considerably more expensive than the Crosswinds, and I couldn't justify trying to figure it out when I already loved the Crosswinds. So, I never gave them a proper long term test. Bottom line - I thought the quality was great, they are heavy brutes! My bet is that you will love them. 1
Panzerlang Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 I had the MFG a long time ago but sold them (for more than I paid happily) when I thought I'd given up on the simming malarkey. I was very happy with them while they were in use. But seeing back-to-back reviews there seems to be little contest on which are superior, although maybe only at the very rarified end of the spectrum. 1
BeastyBaiter Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I'm planning to replace my old CH Products pedals and have been looking at the TM TPR's as well. One thing I noticed is every single "review" I've seen was sponsored by TM (including in OP), so that's something to keep in mind. Haven't heard anything bad about them though, maybe just too expensive for most people to review independently. I'm waiting to pull the trigger on new pedals until after I can get my hands on a winwing F18 hotas. Seem to be out of stock forever the last couple months.
Panzerlang Posted July 6, 2021 Author Posted July 6, 2021 I've been trying them out and they really are that good. It's also very relaxing to be able to use them with my heels sliding on the cockpit floor. I have the tension springs at max (5kg) which feels perfect. The center position is very smooth, no real detent as such but I know they're there. I've been hooning an Albatros through city streets and these make that so much easier. Yes, they're very expensive but there's no over-charging for what you get.
ciderworm Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Good but I think overpriced when compared to alternatives which have plenty of independent favorable reviews (Crosswinds, VKB, Virpil) . Friends got a set but they haven't survived his tough love. He has broken a small metal bracket which connects the pedal to the lever. I don't think this is likely to happen but they are not indestructible. I don't know why but he hasn't contacted TM for support.

I can't imagine how he broke the bracket, it's secured with two screws and a pin (all metal). I did watch a video where the guy's unit came with two of the screws missing and he thought "one screw and a pin" was correct (even though the empty hole was clearly visible, lol). Maybe your friend got one of those and the connection was weak as a result.
ciderworm Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Hetzer, I agree, they should survive normal use for years, lets just say he's prone to breaking things! I'm sure your new pedals will be great.
KpaxBos Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 (edited) Hello, I own the TRP pedals and I am very happy with them. Very precise. One thing you have to take care is prevent the device to slip when you use it(block against a wall or screw them or use an a non slip carpet. Good choice. Have fun. Edited July 7, 2021 by KpaxBos

Also, since you have gotten some good responses from other owners here, you might want to retitle your post with "TM-TPR" pedals for others searching down the line. BTW - Congrats on the "amazing wife" front too, that was quite the Birthday gift! 1
