What maps can we historically use the IAR on? Did they mainly fight closer to Romania? Always loved the look of these things. And totally agree on being from the US I was always fascinated by Eastern Front stuff because it was barely taught in class. The original IL2 blew my mind with getting books from the library on Eastern Front when I was a kid :)

It can be used on Stalingrad map and maybe also on Kuban map. Apparently IAR-80 from Escadrila 43 of Grupul 3 also flew some missions in the Kerch Strait and Kuban area.

Unfortunately I can't find further information on the use of the IAR-80 in the Kuban map area. Maybe someone who owns it can look in Black Cross Red Star vol. 4 or 5 to see if it has any information.

IAR template ??!! When ??

I don't know when but looking forward to the beautiful skins you're going to make.

You could exercise some radio communications in the mean while to include in the game for when the plane is ready .

Have a nice day.

Very good DD, The templates for the Hs129 in 4K are already incredible, but the most incredible is the News of this Fantastic Airplane, listening to IAR 80/81 has been like listening to the best heavenly music in my Ears. It really is one of the many planes that are necessary in the skies of this Magnificent Simulator.

Do not doubt that I will be one of those who uses this beauty of the  Industria Aeronautică Română.

Thank you very much to the team and let's keep working and supporting.

It's pretty cool to see that the IAR 80/81 is being brought back, I was a fan of them back in the old IL-2 sim. Has the modeler decided which specific variants they'll be working on yet?

The screenshots are beautiful.

Great stuff!, your updates always manage to put a smile on my dial :) (much needed and appreciated these days)

Very Romanian flavored too not just with the I.A.R.80-81, but with the Hs-129 skins too. I imaging this could possibly culminate in a Romanian branch of the campaign generator which would be very cool.

I have a bunch of info, details and quality drawings for the IAR, that could help make it perfect. I helped the modeler who made the Warthunder IAR-81C and he made an amazing model. Who should I send them to?

I Know you were waiting this plane for a long time mate...happy for you

I have a soft spot for these odd planes, very happy to hear it will be developed and added to GB.

Talking of odd planes I would like to see a BV141......

Great news about the IAR 80/81.  It was fun to fly in the old sim, can't wait to get my hands on it in this iteration.

Now, for the next bird?

I 153

HS 123

Brewster 239

In any order you like.

Nice!!!

I'm super hyped about the IAR 80 and it will be a day one pre-order for me.

It's an aircraft that i have wanted for il2 since Battle Of Stalingrad!

So I'm really happy that it is being made at last!

This is amazing work on the model shown in this development diary.
I liked the part of the engine, when the player will mostly not see but it still is modeled with a lot of details - huge respect on this part.

Yes, they seemed to have IAR-81 flying over the Kerch straits as interceptors (so basically protecting the the ferry from Crimea that was supporting the Kuban bridgehead - found on the Western side of the Kuban map). The IAR-80 was used as a fighter at Stalingrad, and then as a bomber (mainly early conversions that were transitional between the IAR-80 and IAR-81 I believe).

P.S. Since it is being mentioned - and a possible addition if the IAR-80/81 sells well - The I-153 was also used extensively in Kuban as a ground-attack aircraft it was manoeuvrable enough and high enough performance to provide ground-attack against otherwise hard to hit targets in the mountain valleys. It would also be useable on the Moscow map. Pe-3 would be mainly Moscow and Stalingrad (somewhat equivalent to the Ju-88C, Mosquito, and A-20G... although they transition from multipurpose attack and escort aircraft during Moscow to mainly Recon operations by 1942).

Excellent choice!!! Bravo!!!

Picking up plane of this kind enriches the sim a great deal! I am sure we are all very happy with this beauty! :gamer: (From the side view it looks a bit like a Corsair except the seagull wings? or Am I too blind?)

I also wish the Chaika I15/I153 and the Odesa Map. It would be so f***ing awesome!

Devs, keep listening to us. This IS a very good policy.

Always remember the Gladiator Movie ===> WIN THE CROWD!

It is the Advanced Quick Mission that was revealed a little bit ago. I may be remembering incorrectly all of the details, but it is essentially using the original campaign generator to generate missions. As such, I would assume it will be more in-depth than the current QMB.

The IAR-80 is great news indeed ?

Now all we need is a good map of the scenic Romanian scenery and a few Liberators, and we can duke it out with the P-38 and B-24 over the Ploiești oil fields. Later on we can join VVS and chase the Luftwaffe all the way to Budapest. ?

I like new textures for planes, just please don't forget to fix Bf 110 E-2 tachymeters to match nominal RPM on it.

I wouldn't expect to know at this stage in its development, but it will be interesting what mods we may see for the iar80. Seems like there were many armaments including 13.2mm mgs, mgffs, mg151s, various bomb racks and even br21 rockets.

The Hs-129 template by ICDP was released 3 days ago. And no one says you can't make your own.

Jason

Thank you for the Info.
I only started the work because there was non available in the desired quality. I will totally will use the Template from ICDP and my research as basereference for my Template and Skins as I did before. This should save me some 30 hour of work even if ~10 hour will be wasted I think. I'm only in need of my own Templates at the Bf 109 F-G because of some major difference to the official ones.

Thanks to @ICDP , you saved me a lot of time on several Templates and got me some nice inspirations the time i did the Bf 109 Templates.

Thank you for the start on the IAR-8-/81. It' going to be a day one preorder for me.

What version of the plane it's going to be modelled?  The performance was pretty close between versions and you could probably cover all versions with a single 3d model + weapon packs, like other planes.

So what version is going to be the base model? There are some subtle differences between versions, but we do have good info this days that can help us get a very accurate representation of the plane.

I'd like to help get the best representation of the plane, because there are a lot of old and bad drawings online and it would be a shame to start model the plane after bad drawings.

I could help with high resolution drawings for the exact version of the plane that you want to model and a lot of details that are harder to find.

I'm happy with any of them.

They all could be modeled into a single 3d model and versions could be separated with weapon mods.

I asked because there are some slight differences from batch to batch, like slightly larger wing, slightly different wing, dive bombing equipment on the 81/81C, some earlier versions had one oil cooler, later models had two, in both wings. That's why I ask. I ask so we can get the most accurate 3d model for the main version modelled.
