Nvidia Driver 471.11 cause VR BSODs (not IL-2 specific)

Hey guys,

the Nvidia Driver 471.11 may cause BSODs under certain loads, including VR. A note has been given out by HTC on this.

For now it is recommended to stick with 466.77.

I figured you may be interested in this, so that'll save you a lot of work from updating -> rolling back, et cetera.

Have a good day,

Fenris

So far no problem on my end with 471.77. Been flying IL-2 for last couple of hours.

No problems on my end, also been playing for a couple of hours after latest Win10 update and 471.11

I did have a hard lock when closing down VR (VP2), and had to cycle power, so it's a bit hit or miss.

In the other hand, it did seem to smooth out VR performance, so I'm hoping they can sort the bug out and patch it soon

I have several hours in now with the VP2 and 471.11, have not had an issue yet.

Do you play IL-2 with the wrong aspect ratio atm? I've laid down the game until this is fixed, I can't stomach it :tease:

Well I am not sure what is right or wrong, but yes I am playing it as it is with my Vive Pro 2 and really do not notice anything off by it.

It's not really an aspect ratio problem, more a rotation distortion. I can see it when I look for it, but I've got enough diopters of both correction and astigmatism that that's actually normal for me.

But I can see how it is brain-bendy for anyone with normal human vision :)

I do hope they can get it fixed soon.

I am sorry I do not understand, what is that short vid showing me?

Np, it shows you how to move the head while in hangar in order to see the quite strong warping. Excuse me if I ask, were you the single-eyed or half-visioned player? Because then you might not see it..?

Here's the link to the reports about it:

Ok yeah I realized the axis it was supposed to be occurring, I have moved my head like that whilst flying and did not notice anything. I will try it in the hangar.

Yes I only have half my eyesight I have no vision right of center out of each eye.

It looks like what ever it is that 's not right on 471.11 is a bit more subtle than I was expecting. While I've only had one crash when transitioning out of VR, I do seem to be getting BSOD's every couple of times I wake my computer up from sleep mode. Almost lost a ton of work on a personal project today because of it. Fortunately the site was auto-saving, so I only lost the last 15-20m of time on it. Real nuclear 'F' moment there...

Anyways, I've reverted back to 466.77 for now.

Haven't had a single issue with a G2 on a 2080.

Still no issue with the Vive Pro 2 and these drivers on my end.

I have been gaming several hours a day since getting them.

Obviously this does not affect anyone. It comes at times you don't want it though, as @Voyager experienced. If you work on that PC, you have been warned. GL furthermore :)

I'm curious to what the cause is. I'm also on latest windows update and on 471.11 and have absolutely no problems so far.
