PatrickAWlson Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 (edited) @Retnek posted something awhile back about having more historically accurate operations over the course of a battle. To quote him: day 1&2: fighter sweeps for air superiority / airfield-runs for the attackersday 3&4: (armed) recon / anti-AAA-runs for the attackersday 5&6: ground pounding in the target area, interdiction sorties at the flanksday 7: supporting the ground offensive itself So ... stuff like that. Iconic Battles allows this to be modeled, but I could definitely us a hand with information. What I need: The name of the battle The location of the battle. The sequence (prevalent mission types executed by whom) for that battle, with dates FC or BoS is fine. P.S. I got several suggestions when I first did Iconic Battles and they are in, so if you can help me with the data i can probably make it happen. Please provide as much information in the above format as possible. Yes, you can link me to a wiki page and I can figure it out myself, but I would really appreciate it if contributors could try to fill in the required information. Thanks. I am especially interested in getting some iconic events onto the Moscow map. Should be some good tank battles/encirclements happening. Edited June 16, 2021 by PatrickAWlson 2

Should be some good tank battles/encirclements happening. I'll think about examples at the Moscow-map. But first a series of not-that-prominent operations came into my mind. Because of place and early plane-set maybe attractive as a prelude to the later operations on the Kuban-map we already know: 1) First German occupation of the Kerch peninsula and Kerch in Nov 1941. I sadly don't own the first three volumes of Black-Cross / Red-Star. But I read it years ago and I think there has been (a short?) chapter on the first air-operations in that area 1941/42. 2) First Soviet Counteroffensive - landing at Kerchhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Kerch_Peninsula#Kerch_landing,_26_December_–_28_December 3a) Later operations happened mostly to the west and were off-map, partly possible maybehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Kerch_Peninsula#Luftwaffe_anti-shipping_operations 3b) Second German occupationhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Kerch_Peninsula#Operation_Bustard_Hunt,_8_May_–_19_May I remember the operations in early 1942 were well covered in Vol. 2 of Bergströms BC/RS-series. So far a first shot from of the hip.
PatrickAWlson Posted June 16, 2021 Author Posted June 16, 2021 The first that I have for Moscow is Bryansk. Next I want the Soviet counterattack. One thing that registered is that these are not quite going to be as easy as I thought. very time I have done one I have had to mess with the front lines, which in turn usually means messing with squadron airfield assignment. Not too big of a deal as I have tools written for both of those tasks, as well as tests to verify that a squadron is never behind enemy lines. Still, it adds some effort to each one. The result is worth it. With each new iconic battle the front line movements are more refined and realistic. And since my 110 pilot has only been at the front for a week I am anxious to get him involved in Bryansk 2 2
PatrickAWlson Posted June 17, 2021 Author Posted June 17, 2021 never mind sort of on Bryansk. It's not on the map. Like I said - sort of. I'll do a false version a bit too far North. We'll call it the battle of Mjatlevo 1
