Nah, it's just all the Canadians around it that make it look cooler.

Here are a series of clips of an Iowa class battleship firing it's main rifles.  This is the sound that would be more appropriate for the 15" German guns.

Even that's not accurate.  The amount of compression in order to capture such a loud sound without egregious amounts of distortion (still present in the above example) on the recording mediums of the day drastically change its character.

Yeah, I think that's what it is - it was the Skyraider of its day. 

 

Man, I just can't get over what a perfect image that is of the Typhoon - you have the pilot confidently climbing into the plane with the engine running, and mechanics to the right and left making sure everything is good, and all of the evidence of a busy squadron in the background - tents, trucks, etc. It'd make for one really cool diorama. ?
