How the AI Works (or not)

Hi all,

I have TC for some time but waited until the game was (more) completed before trying it. To find my way around I have been using @SYN_Vander mission generator.

I have some issues with the AI. Shooting is oké but the driving is terrible. Is there any kind of pathing AI in the game? Did a mission with 8 PZIV's yesterday. One rolled of a hill upside down. One drove into a house and got stuck. A third did the same on a tree. I was playing the commander role so had my driver on autopilot. It gave no indication of being aware of any kind of terrain at all.

If at any time you have to drive through a tree line, let alone a wood you will loose tanks! I can not recall reading anything about work being done on this AI. I hope I have missed something or do I have to live with it?

Another issue I had with the AI is getting my tank or platoon to get anywhere. You can activate the command (~-key), point at the terrain and order to move your driver/platoon there. You get the option to drive  using roads or go directly. This is command is being ignored completly unless you have first ordered you command to continue following the mission route (made by missionmaker). Only then can I use the point to terrain and move command. Which is a pain if you first commanded your platoon in another direction ordering to follow the route ussually makes them drive back to the last waypoint that is active before I started ordering them about. In my (limited) experience it was a 180 and back where we came from!

I again hope that it is me making the error if so how do I get this to work properly?

Hi,

I think that tanks need carefully planed paths in mission builder like in the officiall scripted campaign.

In my observation enemy and friendly AI are not stopped by the trees.

I can give order without problem to my tanks to move to a point directly, problem is when they arrive at that point they are stacionary and do not engage enemy AI.

I need to order them again to change formation and at that point they start to engage after some time, but they are now not at the place I wanted them to be.

So I dont use the command menu, unless i want to use my friendly tanks as a bait.

I am assuming that you are controling your own tank manually then? I'll try it out.
