Question for YouTube channel owners

I've had a YouTube channel for over 10 years. I suspect a lot of us have. I probably spend more time exploring videos there than anything else I do online. Most of the videos I post on mine are related to BoX and aviation. For the most part I've just used it to link my videos here to bore many of you with. As such, the channel has went mostly unnoticed for that length of time. As recently as 2 months ago I only had less than 30 subscribers and most of my videos showed only a few thousand views even after having been online for 10 plus years. Something has changed very recently in both the number of subscribers and views. While still modest in number I now sport 260 plus subscribers and several videos show amazing growth in views as below. My question then is, have any of you seen tremendous growth recently and is it anything to be concerned with? I hate to think it's anything other than simply like minded people interested in WWII aviation stumbling onto stuff I've posted. My concern though is that it might be hackers looking for a way into my system through YouTube. Any thoughts?

It's a great video.

 

Someone, somewhere has reposted it on another forum or website with a much bigger membership and it's had decent number of hits.

A proportion of these people have also checked out several of your other movies.

 

It's either that or prepare to have a lot of stalkers

Just youtube algorithms doing their thing. They figured out what demo your video might be popular with and started recommending it to that demo.

It's just algorithms and analytics working together and recommending it based upon a variety of criteria.

Thx for the replies. It sure is odd (to me anyway) that I'd start getting so many hits in such a short time after some of these videos being posted for such a long time.

Thx for the compliment. As to stalkers, if they're somewhat cute, preferably female and not too over the top nuts, I'm open to being followed around a little.

So basically what they are saying is that your video sucks, but thanks to the modern miracle of automated algorithms and analitics your video is being recommended in many places where people don't know that your video sucks and as a result  you are getting a plethora of unwitting victims watching your sucky video, thus the amazing growth of views. Plain and simple Sir.

Change the title of that video to Battle of Bodenplatte or some derivation thereof. That will alleviate the comments and potential down votes.

I've thought about that too. Do you think they should start with Great Battles then the BoX installment title?

• IL-2 BoX: 262's over the Rhineland
• IL-2 Great Battles - Bodenplatte

 

Something along those lines.

 

Also, if you intend on growing your channel you should consider profile and banner images. They help lend credence to professionalism and engage subscribers.

 

I haven't updated my channel in four years and it's still growing for whatever strange, odd reason.

 

EDIT - If you want me to help ya out with imagery let me know via PM. I just started my second channel dedicated to this stuff and here is what it looks like.

Thanks for that suggestion. I'll look into it. I did just update the title and description to the video I posted here. I'll be interested to see if that increases or decreases the number of views it gets.

I did see some surprisingly massive growth on my channel, but only after I posted a video that AFAIK got more views than all my other videos combined, and then only because it appealed to a wider audience than my usual content (which I usually make for myself).

That said, one of my GBS videos did amazingly well in terms of views, most likely because it featured the Ju-52 when it was first added as an AI aircraft.

Your video might be doing so well because it includes the Me-262, which is always a popular aircraft. Based on the comments, it looks like quite a few of your viewers have never even heard of GBS.

 

The video also has a significant number of dislikes in relation to likes, so it could be attracting wehraboos as well. For those who don’t know, a wehraboo is someone who believes that German technology, tactics, and training were superior to everything else in WWII, and that the Allies only won because they threw literal hordes of poorly trained troops with bad equipment at the Germans. Many also deny the Wehrmacht’s support for Hitler and involvement in the Holocaust. As you can imagine, these people are very likely to click on a video titled ‘Me-262 shot down’ solely to dislike it or leave a comment calling it propaganda.

Revisionist history won't erase its errors, crimes and injustices. Ignoring, or even worse pretending they never happened, only adds to the darkness of the events.
