Hello Boyz, Klunk back in IL2 after a year's furlough.

My fellow squadmates are trying to entice me into the world of VR. I have had an eye on the G2, and I Think I have a decent setup, but have read a few disheartening posts on other forums about G2 and my card.

My setup is

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8 core processor, 3593 Mhz

16 GB RAM
AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT

Q1: Does anyone here have a smiliar (or identical) setup with a G2 and what is your verdict.. is the card good enough?
Q2: Does anyone know about these issues with G2 and the 5700XT?

For VR is very important to have a good CPU since the scene needs to be geometrically seen twice, one for each eye.

And also it is very important to have a good GPU since the total number of pixels to be render is high and need to be done at 90Hz (or other freqs) for a pleasant experience.

In the SYN_VANDER benchmark table there are some people with Ryzen 3700X and also people with 5700X.

The is one person ( @shirazjohn) who upgraded from 3700X (row 68) to 5600X (row 10) keeping same Mobo and gained 46 fps in the CPU test.

On GPU test you will see that your GPU with a not constrained CPU (10700K) deliver 80fps, whereas a 3080 delivers 140fps and a 3090 170fps.

If I will be you I will upgrade your CPU to a 5600X o 5800X or 5900X. And If you can grab a 3080 or 3090 you will gain a lot in VR.

Forget about the 6800XT or 6900XT, they have an issue with IL-2  and they perform badly.

Really appreciate your input. Thank you.

I have to consider it, on a budget and to but Both buy the VR gear And upgrade the hardware after one year’s of use is a handful.

If you are in the US or similar market maybe try the Quest 2 first to see if VR is for you.

I have a similar setup to yours only difference I have a 3800x, using the settings from "Spot and ID well!" pinned post, I can Keep up with the minimum required 45 fps for re-projection to work properly, without re-projection i can push around 55 fps but it's not worth cause re-projection keeps the frame stable and it will be a better experience than without it imho, overall I think it is playable but as soon as GPUs start to be available again I will upgrade cause frames for VR matter more than anything else.

What chili and Alan said. They are both valid approaches. You can now get a VR headset and run it below what it is totally capable off - there are quite good used prices nowadays available due to the VP2 release, make sure to buy with bill if it's 2nd hand. Then later when you get to upgrade, you can run it better with its full capability.
